slostudent1221 he did more acid and booze then 10000 people lol, doesn’t hurt to have a full band and an orchestra behind you neither. Not talking down about him, he’s a musical god
OddTimeMan thank God that my dad like pink floyd, thanks my dad I love pink floyd. Is my favourite band, gilmour my favourite guitarist and the division bell my favorite album in the world. Pink floyd is love, pink floyd is music
That's Gilmour for you my friend...that's the stuff legends are made of...this guy makes it all look so easy and effortless. He has been and will always be THE BEST.....
Many times we become fans of an artist by some one else's influence (a friend or relative) but few times we become fans of an artist on our own, because we really feel attracted to their art because one day we listened to their music and we identified ourselves with them. That's the way I feel about Gilmour since his early days with Pink Floyd I discovered it on my own and it's been amazing.
U are so right!! My friends & I started listening to Floyd in the early 80s. Thought we had discovered something new not knowing they'd already been around for over 15 years!!
The very first time I've listened to this song was in the day my mom passed away. Days after, I read the lyric with more attention and I realized the main message the song brought: great moments that I would never have again but at the same time I would have, as sweet memories. That's the power of music.
the feelings i get from his solos is beyond compare i have listened to led zeppelin, jimi hendrix, guns n roses and metallica they were all legendary but no guitarist comes even close to him
"The Grass was greener, the lights were brighter" ....musical perfection ala Gilmour...back every couple of weeks for more of the same. Massive stuff, always a treat.
This version is brilliant. The guitars and cello are simply spectacular. Gilmour is a genius. I just can't believe that there are 148 dislikes. My best guess is that ONE idiot did not like it and the other 147 people clicked accidentally because they were curious to find out who that idiot was!
This song shows up just how much Genuis David Gilmour has. The song is great studio version but this live version has so many different instruments from the cello to the bass and Michael Kamen on the piano and English Horn. David on slide guitar. The background singers are a perfect match for this also. Who does this ? Has to be a musical God, yes David Gilmour.
This is an awesome recording of this song! I think Caroline Dale just makes it with that cello! WOW! Every piece of this and everybody is just phenomenal.
I am quite young and have been listening to music of my age a long time, but ones I discovered this... It's just another level you do not often have that kind of music anymore... Nowadays it's often more about being a star not about the passion of music and I have to say the passion that I feel here ... Within every one of these individuals... It's just amazing... THIS is music
PaekeaYaté Nobody cares for this chewed up "I am young I love this and that" fucking opinion. Go fuck yourself and stuff that opinion up your ass like many of them before you. Fucking idiots, man...
I don't need anyone to care for my opinion, I am simply expressing what I admire about this. As simple as that. I think everyone is free to have and share their opinion that is how we grow, though it would be nice if it would be respected by others. I wonder how breaking down my comment was helpful for you?
Beautiful version. Between Molly's lyrics and David's music and production, this song always rips my heart out. I'm always a bit melancholic after listening to this. "Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us to a glimpse of how green it was on the other side." So many regrets.
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young In a world of magnets and miracles Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary The ringing of the division bell had begun Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway Do they still meet there by the Cut There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps Running before times took our dreams away Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground To a life consumed by slow decay The grass was greener The light was brighter When friends surrounded The nights of wonder Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again Dragged by the force of some in a tide At a higher altitude with flag unfurled We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world Encumbered forever by desire and ambition There's a hunger still unsatisfied Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon Though down this road we've been so many times The grass was greener The light was brighter The taste was sweeter The nights of wonder With friends surrounded The dawn mist glowing The water flowing The endless river Forever and ever
I am addicted to this awesome song. David Gilmore and Caroline Dale are awesome musicians. I so love this song, it is timeless and a classic which is awesome. Rock on always.🎶
David Gilmour when we meet at the pearly gates I know you will be playing your guitar in the honour of the LORD. Every time I hear this song I am moved, truly you are blessed above others to have the insight and vision of "High Hopes". WOW just WOW, you are rightfully named DAVID, for he played the harp to calm the spirit resting in SAUL, you David Gilmour have given rest to mine and countless others, whenever I have felt broken down. May GOD bless this musician and his music till the end of days. I wish that one day I have the opportunity to listen to you live. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This song packs so much emotion. All the sounds complement each other in such a perfect manner making the melody so rich it moves you inside. Undoubtedly one of the best songs ever created. A masterpiece.
This is called music. You can actually feel the Rythm and the vibes going through you.. Love this!! I don't believe anyone can beat this cover of high hopes by Gilmour
Been a fan of Floyd and this man for 35+ years. Bought all his albums, seen him live a few times. Other than his musical gifts he seems like one of the most genuine, humble, and kind people and has been a hero of mine for most of my life. If you are interested there is a very good 1 hour+ documentary about him called "David Gilmour - Wider Horizons". Check it out.
Simply one of the most exquisite and exhilarating musical performances I have ever heard and seen. Mind-blowing cello, lead and backing vocals, incredible guitar and other instruments, all the way down to the bell - sheer perfection. Does anyone know if this version is available on CD? (I have searched for it on iTunes to no avail.) I need this in my collection!
Sto vivendo un periodo in cui non vedo speranza ma quando sento musica così, mi tocca l'anima e penso che in fondo la bellezza in questo mondo esiste ancora! Grazie David!
Still my favorite cut of this song! He is fantastic and is surrounded by a fine group of musicians, they all add just enough to make this stellar. I can never not say I'm infatuated with Caroline Dale...
And the bass and the slide guitar and the English horn and the background singers. But that's the genius of Gilmour there is rock and many levels above there is Gilmour
I remember coming off a wildfire in Washington in 2014 and playing this version in the truck with a few of the crew members. It was the last day of our roll and we were beaten and miserable and in a state of euphoric exhaustion, this song was the most beautiful thing in the world in that moment. After the song came to an end I realized how much I appreciated the Crew and what we had done and how much work we had put in. On top of everything though I really appreciated Pink Floyd and DG and how beautiful their music is.
Genius. Love it and if you dot like it go listen to some auto tune modern stuff where people cant play instruments. All I know is when I hear Gilmour I am comfortably numb. Keep an open mind and the truth will follow. Peace to all humankind.
Bello, bellisimo si hay algo bueno hace la humanidad es el arte... la música dentro la música pink floyd. Se me eriza la piel de escuchar a David Gilmour.
God Damn Pink Floyd, soooo far ahead of their time. I've never really looked as them as a typical Band to dance to or have a "favorite song of all time" like every other band to exist. To me.... Pink Floyd is Musical Art....It really can't be put into words what Pink Floyd truly is and there will never be any other band that can compare.... A Symbolic & Emotional Journey......simply through beautiful music
Gilmour is more that 70 years now, but he still giving these amazing concerts with bells, pianos, cellos and it makes me feel really proud of him - he hadn't lost his enormous musical power. Moreover, his voice got better with ages, and quality of sound at this video doesn't really differ from studio recording, which was made 24 years ago. Anyway he's a great musician. Wish he had good health.
Thank you for making my life bearable when I thought there was no light at the end of the tunnel... Love y'all so freaking much! AH/AW GALVESTON ISLAND,. LOVES YOU

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before times took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some in a tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
Forever and ever
