    Personally I'd make Neutral B cost less ink, make the ink last a bit longer on opponents, have ink gradually refill like in Splatoon when you're not using it, and give Inkling the Burst Bomb (Explodes on impact) if you double tap B when using Down B as there is enough time for that to come out.

    I love the idea of Inkling, I just think the power creep of the DLC characters knocked her out of being a high tier, imo

    videos like these remind me that smash ultimate was so close to being perfect, with top tiers being consistently balanced, then DLC came and they never properly balanced them

    Sometimes I think Sakurai prioritizes fighters being too faithful even if it makes them flawed or broken
    Sometimes you gotta pray that the franchise itself will introduce a new mechanic or feature so that a better moveset cam be made for these characters in the future

    The top two things I would do to Inkling:
    - Modify Splattershot to where you can move left and right while firing like Banjo-Kazooie Neutral-B-2
    - a wider hit box on n-air, and changing its trajectory to a pop-up hit box, like Melee Fox's Jab-1.

    Honestly surprised no one yet suggested to rework the ink mechanic where the inkling could cover the stage itself in ink for a movement speed buff to themselves and a movement nerf for the opponent.

    I remember calling how she was gonna fall off like A MONTH into the games lifespan, although it took longer for me to consider her mid tier material. To an ACTUAL inkling player, those flaws became very easy to spot. As for the proposed buffs, no, do not give back air more range, and roller needs a flat out rework. It should launch opponents, which could potentially set up combos at earlier percents, maybe set up kill at higher percents or flat out kill by itself at around 180 or so. Not only would that be a massive buff for the character, it would be way less obnoxious for the opponent, so it’s a win win

    They should add more things with roller. Like having it possible to do a mid-air slash like what happens if you use roller mid-air in splatoon.

    I think Vars has talked about this before. Afaik he mentioned ANY sort of logical buff would help them to be a high tier, just like 7.0.0 Samus getting a kill throw and a consistent dash attack made her the best she has ever been.
    How I would fix them? Simple, a D-tilt having a 32° angle instead of 45° and a higher base knockback on up air 2 from 30 to 43. This would allow tech chases at mid percents, better edgeguards and more reliable kill confirms due to needing less percentage to KO (2 birds with 1 stone, twice). Also yes, I would give Inkling a body hitbox on N-air, after all the tentacle hair seems that it would slap you in that animation on the girl and N-airs in general are supposed to cover your whole body, and would make Down B less expensive and make it so in case the tank is barely below the threshold it just recharges. That would be it because it's not that far from being a healthy high tier.
    PS: No, ink doesn't improve KO potential significantly, improves damage racking significantly and makes them not able to play the distance game. Knockback only considers base damage, not the damage actually dealt so it ignores those kind of multipliers. And yes, this is basically melee Mario, the Mario without good shield pressure or F-Air to end combos but with great frame data and better recovery.

    Hey great video, just two quick things. Inkling up-throw > up-air works at pretty much all percents up until like 120, you just need to buffer the jump/jumps and do it faster. Also you can hold down b to get way more range and speed when you throw it.

      Expect an HDR Mega Man Video in the future, I like that version of the character a lot. I was gonna talk about Duck Hunt, but I noticed he got some big changes idk if everyone likes them, but they changed DH a lot too.

    Inkling has sort of the Sheik issue where some moves often just don't hit like you'd like them to.
    Removing fair's sourspot or making it harder to get
    Removing usmash's sourspot or making it harder to get
    More hitstun on dtilt1 so they can't airjump reversal you for not getting the 2nd hit
    Just for fun: Splattershot inking through shields sounds super cool and would make the Inkling's fighting style look more like their games' but it sounds so strong...I'd maybe balance that out by making upb require a tiny bit of ink hence making ink management a bit more important.

    im an inkling main, have been since the start of the game. Honestly the only most change I'd really love to see is maybe increase splatbomb knockback, or even just make the knockback more predictable somehow. Just because every truly insane inkling clip you see always involves a crazy splatbomb snipe

    Have her be able to swap between different weapon types. For example, you choose the roller as your weapon of choice for the match(they get a new mechanic where you can choose your weapon before the start of the match). You use the carbon roller to rack up damage and swap to the dynamo roller to finish em off. These would only be replacing either aerials or smash attacks.

    Back air really dosent need a buff, its one of the fastest back airs in the game and is fantastic for both combos and edge guarding, up air could do with being a little faster tho, and her down air should be given a more consistent spike, her neutral air is actual ok for combos if you use it right
    Her side and down smashes are good but her up smash really needs to be fixed cause its unbelievably inconsistent
    Inklings range is fine as is honestly, i think giving a hit and run character a long range move that can rapidly stun of outright ko is a horrible idea
    Roller is WAY to much of a commitment because of how much start and end lag is has, speed it up and thatd help alot
    Her biggest issue you didnt really mention is that none of her moves do good damage to sheild which means she lacks good pessure against sheilded enemies beyond grabbing, and while yes inklings grabs are pretty good she can really do with better sheild options

    Honestly, if they wanted to make Inkling more faithful to the source material, they shouldn't have made them a hit and run character with poor kill potential, and instead should have made them an aggressive glass cannon who kills early and dies early

    If you could apply ink on shield (less than on hit of course) and if you slowly gained ink over time, they’d be A LOT better
    Also buff nair lmao. I hate how small the hitbox is

    Dream inkling changes to make them top tier:
    - Back throw actually kills.
    - More up throw up air leniency because some characters mash out like luigi.
    - Make nair bigger.
    - Give her Cloud's fast fall speed (they have lucina fast fall speed rn).
    - Down tilt sending at a horizontal angle.
    - Make down air faster and not complete trash (they can't fast fall dair offstage for the most part).
    - Old roller.
    - Splat bomb explodes on impact (sometimes that thing will bounce off people's noggins like it didnt just hit them).
    - Make upsmash kill earlier cause it's less potent than up throw up air.
    - Frame 6 grab (why is it frame 8???).

      dude the one about the fall speed, omg, that would help SO much.
      inkling is a character that needs to be on the ground to make use of their dash, but since you need to use bair to do anything, youre in the air a lot, and every jump feels like such a commitment bc of how floaty they are. If they fell faster they could do sooooo much more stuff fr

    As an Inkling player who doesnt play that much smash as of rn (because splatoon 3 is simply a better game) I could write a whole document detailing the problems with this character simply for the fact that i care a ton about the state this character is in rn especially given the landscape ultimate is in.
    But if I could give the biggest encapsulation of why inkling turned out the way they did in retrospect it would probably have to be with the arrival of kazuya.
    Kazuya didnt really do anything to inkling themselves moreso than the implication he brought along with him (his infamous ability in 0tds) in making inkling as a character seem lackluster in comparison.
    Now inkling isnt all that bad as they're seen more as the middle of the road but the fact of the matter is with kazuya came alongside a subtle push to players to make sure they get their punish games down lest you be eviscerated at 0 percent which not only put a focus on characters with punish games like rob but put spotlights on characters that while they may not have punish game like rob or kazuya the next best thing would be to have your one player game character in someone like steve or have an extreme efficiency in your ability to cheese, which of course given how inkling works under the stress of a tournament environment, potentially not being able to close out stocks at their sweetspot range and forced to undertake a grueling stock or at absolute worst multiple stocks that leads close to the 200s in percents its reasonable to say if you know how to damage control vs inkling your ability to cheese them or simply outlast them skyrockets in performance.
    This also isnt even to say that inkling doesnt have a punish game or some type of cheese its just that whatever they have is overshadowed heavily in just how practical comparatively or just how lacking in how obnoxious its perceived when some like minecart exists.
    When you're hit by inkling it really doesnt put the fear of god into you and your every decision matters from here on out to stop the bleeding like how kazuya does it, its simply "oh i got hit what are they going to try and do to follow up?" This simple disparity i think really puts into perspective just what makes inkling struggle as apposed to the other characters because inkling simply put takes more interactions on average in order to build a substantial advantage than a lot of other characters by proxy.
    Its a real shame this character is overshadowed not only because the character is fun and is quite capable its just a matter of that career defining run from any top inkling player that goes to a major that will make people remember why the smash community had the opinion of inkling the way the did all the way back at the start of the game.

    having ink on the opponent doesn't give any attack more knockback
    the only case where it seem like it is on multihit moves where the first hit does more dmg, so the opponent has more dmg when getting hit by the second hit and therefore has slightly more knockback than without ink

    My changes are Ink will go through shield but damage doesn't, this way you can hold shield to avoid damage but now you are inked and will take more damage, Inked opponents need to stay inked longer, both guns and splat bombs need a range buff, Ink needs a knockback buff and Roller should be buffed as while it is really good when it hits it is really obvious and easy to F-Smash punish on wiff, if it proves too good then increase the punish window even farther as it is supposed to be the high-risk high-reward move than even Inkling's smash attacks.

    Why not be able to refill ink very slowly even when not submerged in it just like the original game? Why not be able to swap between balanced specials fromt he game? Why not have down b be where you swap weapons? If only inkling was dlc or had sakurai bias

    I wonder what placement Inkling would be at today if that early Roller nerf never happened. Would the roller really be that broken in comparison to many other things in the game?

      Probably the same. Roller is mostly a noobkiller move, it wouldn’t really impact the higher levels.

    The one thing I would change, because I find it annoying and uncharacteristic of the character, is the fact that it can't refill ink unless it is completely depleted. It adds more inconsistency to their kit and makes me feel like in not in control of my own fight strategy, It ruins the character for me. NS is pretty useless as well.

    Seeing her Neutral B compared to other projectiles, it looks so pathetic. I think her ink gun really needs to shoot further range, like almost being able to reach across the stage.

    IMO, i think all inkling would need to be viable would be a huge buff to dair, and making booyah work consistently
    inkling is a character that gets a lot of kills through edge guards, and one of the best edgeguarding tools is down air, except its so fucking slow, and the spike hitbox is tiny and lasts a short amount of time. Like if u miss a dair offstage, you actually cant input another button until youre in the blast zone. it has SO MUCH endlag, its ridiculous. On stage you can autocancel it, but if this move was more spammable offstage, i think it could help a LOT. Something closer to Pit or Villager Dair would be suuuuuper nice, and not really busted. It just fits with what the character is already good at, but mb with a good dair theyd be a lot more consistent.
    its also a move that actually leads into kill confirms on stage, which as stated, inkling needs all of those they can get. So having a quick dair with a big spike hit box, would lead to more kills both on and off stage, but wouldnt over tune anything.

    Reducing knockback growth on up throw is almost the only buff they need. Combos are easier, kill confirms last longer, and making the grab kill confirm scarier gets them out of shield more often, which buffs roller.

    I’m not much of a smash player, but I play ton of Splatoon 3, and honestly I think it’s in dire need of an entire rework. The character is just outdated and doesn’t match with the current game at all. Not to mention the inkling for some reason does melee attacks, which like why? I’d also think an octoling alt character who is slower but hits harder would be interesting as well.

      I mean she has Meelee attacks because. It's a fighting game. I agree with the outdated moveset to an extent. The only new weapons introduce were tri stringer and splatana and I don't see either of those being implemented into her kit

    Actually up throw up air is supposed to be a true combo but you need to buffer your first jump and have a very little percentage window to do it, and rage at high percentage doesn't help too. It requires a lot but can be really efficient

      He mentioned it. It's kill power. Online or at low levels of play this isn't an issue bc people aren't as good at evading things like roller. However, at higher levels people play much more defensively. Inkling doesn't have the means to kill unless she hits roller at a high percent. Many of her moves take around 120 to kill (and that's just at ledge)

    I have no idea what you are talking about in this video. Inkling is a rushdown, not a hit and run.
    Ink doesn't make getting KO's easier. KO's happen when the opponent is damaged enough. Ink doesn't affect knockback.
    Inkling isn't really combo-centric. They have combos for when the enemy is at 0%, sure. But like you yourself said, they have no real kill confirms, meaning they can't get a cheap shot that combos into a kill which is what combo characters are.
    And lastly, please clean up your scripts. You repeat yourself so much and you do it INSTANTLY. "Inkling is fast. She is speedy". Yea... thats what fast means.

      Other than that I think the character is honestly fine

    Simple! More ink, faster ink recovery, and they use way less ink! Everything else she's got is actually amazing! They just need more ink! And splatbomb was insanely nerfed so maybe more knockback? Because it does barely any damage and usually sends nowhere which is sad! I love inkling! But I miss the times when they were high-tier

    Honestly I would not say that inkling doesn’t have a bad projectile or even terrible kill power. The splat bomb imo is actually one of the better projectiles considering it adds a lot of pressure and can create setups when necessary…and roller is still a great and quick way to secure kills with inkling…of course you can simply just shield the roller and you’re defenseless but a big drawing point is the fact that you have to surprise the opponent with the roller so they have no time to shield…just like how it works in splatoon actually…the rollers whole point in the splatoon games is to flank the opponent and try to jump them with the rollers close range and it works just like that in smash…

      for some reason when I use Splat Bomb, people just let themself get hit by it a lot and it's funny, But I hate that just tapping shield for like 1 frame bounces the bomb away
