So, I have portals on my can Am Defender that are 4” portals 30% reduction as well as my X3 Max same 4” 30% duals. So portals are great and don’t regret installing mine. But you will have to make a lot of changes that no one says anything about. If you have plenty of money then you’ won’t mind. I have not seen anyone with portal out run stock anything this was my first. So, the things your not told. You are never doing the speed displayed. You mileage reflect the 15% and or 30% you drive. Your extended warranty will not cover anything connected with the portals. Axles no, diff no and and I mean everything. I run rhinos on the Defender and Turners on the X3 they have great warranties. Yes you will need to get the best ball joints and in your a arms will need to be adjustable with the weight. My 32” BFG gave me camber problems. Replace all your bushings and re enforce your a arm tabs they will bend. You will need to get the strongest tie rods you can find. You lose a lot of turning radius. I know it sounds like I’m against Portals but that is not the case. I just wish someone that owns on and has them and is not selling would have told me.

This is all true! However it can depend on how hard the machine with portals are ridden! I’ve seen machines never have issues with the frames or a-arms, and I’ve also seen machines bend frames and break tabs. I’ll pin your comment so people definitely know these are real possibilities! The ball joint’s also definitely need to be upgraded with the portals as it is so much more weight! Definitely want to inform people and let them make their own choice instead of just trying to sell!!

I run portals (4" at 30%) on my pro xp. You are dead on, not to mention if you get nice beefy tie rods you will eventually blow out a stock steering rack. Basically all of the suspension needs to be upgraded. Using offset heims on your tie rods can help return them to stock geometry (like they talk about on the SlikRok channel) and save a bunch of stress and prevent oversteer. Another drawback is that if you run them hard, they tend to get leaks semi-regularly and have to be rebuilt and have all the seals replaced (I've found using the portal blood SATV sells helps reduce leaks as it's more viscous than most other gear oils). However, If you do get it all dialed it is crazzzzzzzy fun. I do mostly rock crawling with them and I feel the extra portal weight is actually super helpful with keeping more weigh on the tire when it's making contact. All that extra weight down low is amazing for keeping it right side up.

I went with the 6" long arm super atv lift . Running 35" super atv transmission with 25% reduction gearing. I really haven't put it 4×4 yet. Goes about 47 mph. It's a crew

Do you get any rubbing with your wheel, tire, and a arm setup?

What about hitting the highway at times with portals? Say 5-10 minutes at 40 mph.

What would I need with my stock highlifter trans is 15% reduction stock. Topspeed is 40mph.

The reduction in transmission is always going to limit your speed, but clutching and portals would be ideal to keep or increase performance. A tune would also raise the limiter and allow more room in adjusting clutches for max power and torque

Any other upgrades needed or recommended? Ball joints or tie rods?

Neither one of those would be a bad idea when adding bigger tires as you’d rather have them and not need them than need them and not have them!
