Ragnar was hurt by the people he loved the most. Floki, Rollo, And Lagertha. Even King Eckbert whom he saw as a friend a equal, betrayed him twice. Every Viking leader was jealous of him they wanted to be him. As a man of many feats...he died alone. And with his death brought a new Viking age!
What makes all of that sadder is that they never really knew him, not til he was gone. Then they realized what kind of man he was. Bjorn is the only one in the whole show I feel really understood his father, the good and the bad, and he still loved and respected his father
If you look a bit deeper the show talks about the duality between what we feel inside and what must be done as a reaction or consequence to outside situations. Ragnar and Eckbert were the best examples as they grew older, and even Lagertha had her situations. The difference between inner and outer is very clear here. What we feel is different from what must be done to play the game.

In this video you can see that Ragnar is still the main part of the series. Bjorn carries his leadership quality, Ubbe carries his mercifulness and keeps a clear mind on who the real enemy is, Hvitzerk still searches his place in this world and Ivar carries his thinking and strategies in battle.

Man idk if i loved Travis Fimmel or the man he portrayed on the screen Ragnar Lothbrok. I just coudn't stop crying at the time of his death. One of the greatest characters portrayed on screen for me hands down.
