And lower the annual fee back to $450 and its an automatic yes especially with the current lounge access.
Honestly if I can just get a card with lounge access, I think that alone would make people cancel the platinum. I could be wrong, but that’s where I’m leaning very soon if my theory is true with Mastercard Luxury Hotels being on par or better than FHR/THC.
I guess we’ll see. I’ll know fairly soon.

Because they are giving out so many platinum cards they simply don't have the staff to provide that level of service. I guess you have to have the black card if you want that type of personal service unless they come up with a NEW premium card that Bridges the Platinum to the centurion
Mastercard has more overall holders than platinum
People like platinum for lounges, that's really it
I agree, I don't think Amex are nearly as prestigious as they may have been.
Sadly I think Smart is right, I think a lot of us just pay for lounge access, and I’ve come to learn that about myself recently.
So I’m on the hunt for the best alternative. We’ll see I guess.

I know you like to be super hands on with your travels, but maybe for the hell of it one day, call them and have them give you a list of things.
They might recommend something you never thought to find or check! It’s why I love it a lot. Of course don’t have to do anything they recommend either.

I cannot imagine a scenario where I would call a consierge service. I over plan everything and have backup plans on top. In fact, maybe I will start a consierge service myself. LOL
Now you're right about that I like to control my destiny and not leave it up to some random person at the end of a 1-800 number. It's my time my life my finances my loved one, I wouldn't leave that up to somebody else to make a break and anniversary a wedding. Now if you have problems or emergencies during travel that's one thing. We are masters of our own destiny we can't leave it up to somebody else when we have the power to control it as much as we can
Same PhilMo. Im a planner. I have to plan ahead for any trip...whether its traveling back to Iceland to see how my people are doing for a while or Im traveling to some place to watch a baseball game for a weekend. I want complete control.

Yes most don't commonly use concierge & its ok if you do all of your own planning thats fine, but the point is when you do want to use it for the price of 700 bucks its worse then no annual fee cards. Thats a huge blow because Amex concierge just 3 years ago use to be the best in the buisness.....when they cut off something like concierge you can best believe they are & will be shrinking other things not just concierge......thats the point. Trying to save the platnuim from too many downgrades keep it Prestige, its 700 annual fee.....

I used the Amex concierge last year, albeit for a less complex request. I was trying to get a dinner reservation at Hell’s Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay in Las Vegas for the following week. The concierge did try calling on my behalf, but no luck. Then the concierge suggested a comparable alternative, Ramsay’s Kitchen. He even took care of the reservation for me.
Ramsay’s Kitchen is a spinoff of Hell’s Kitchen and both of them have the same menus. I went with relatives to Hell’s Kitchen many months earlier and I enjoyed it, so I wanted to go back.
I wouldn’t have known that the spinoff existed if not for the concierge. Sometimes, you don’t have the time to do the research or don’t know where to start or narrow results down.
The concierge can definitely be helpful!

Hell yeah Jacob, they even told me they booked someone’s full experience for 3 months abroad and handled all hotels, things to do, how to get there etc.
You guys already have done that stuff, but maybe worth seeing if they have things that maybe you never tried or considered!

After i watched that video i tried it out myself to get a reservation for a brunch in a Disney property a month from now. Website says that reservations are available 30 in advance. Well, they booked up immediately so i thought this would be a good opportunity to try the concierge. First of all they all struck out but the Amex guy i felt like tried the least hard . Evidently Disney does not allow 3rd party booking and my Amex already knew this. I tried the Mastercard first and she really did try with no luck but did give some info that the restaurant does take walk ins and to just go early and it looks like we should get in. Visa guy put me on 3 way and got shot down. Amex didn’t even try. Luckily i kept staling the website and was able to get the 4 reservations. Not all at the same time but it’s a start. Although the calls were not really productive I really appreciate you guys clueing us in to this. I really think the service will come in clutch at some point.
Im supposed to be planning my birthday trip already and i have no clue where i want to go. I wonder if the concierge could help me narrow it down. A short trip the week before Christmas. Last year we went to San Diego . Im just drawing a blank. P2 doesn’t have a passport so has to be domestic. That’s all i got so far

Also to your second point, I think the answer is yes! I asked them, and they booked a family an entire 3 month long vacation in Europe, she said they booked the hotels, the things to do, the transportation and how to get there, literally everything.
So I would ask them, tell them your personality, the dates needed, what hotels and what you want to do, and they’ll come up with something.

it's different when you have the Centurion / Black Card. Platinum concierge is like me calling my great grandparents who were born in the 1800s and asking them to coordinate Starship launch missions.
Cool video, staright calling out amex, it is very disappointing for a card with af of 695.
I hate to do it, but I’m trying to add bits and pieces of what I hope to be the takedown of the Platinum, well maybe just 90% of it since Lounge Access can’t be completed with I think.

I had a great experience with Amex concierge with a daddy-daughter date in NYC. I got the referral to the tour site they own, I'm gonna repeat this experiment for a Day trip to Volcano National Park.

It's absolutely wild that AMEX came up so short. I get they might not be able to do everything, but it sounded like the AMEX reps were actively trying to push off the work onto the "service offerings" in the AMEX network.

Yes very much true, guaranteed vs availability. I will say the only data point so far, is Calby asked for late checkout at his Mastercard hotel and they asked on his behalf, and scored a 5pm late checkout. So of course depends on hotel, but that was cool to see so far.

After talking to Amex in the UK. I found out at least for us in UK. They are using Experian for booking their stays.
So I presume that Mastercard are using the same booking provider. Which is why the booking benefits are so similar. Also don’t forget that Mastercard is much bigger company than Amex.
You mean Expedia right? Because that much is true for the U.S. at times.
Mastercard is actually using the preferred hotels programs, as in Hyatt Prive, Marriott Luminous/Stars, etc, and that’s how they get the benefits.

This seems to indicate that the CapitalOne combo of Venture X and SavorOne can accomplish everything that the Platinum can, but for $600 less... Lounge access, World Elite concierge, etc..
Technically, the C1 duo is cheaper than the Plat by $300. Whether the lounges and transfer partners you get with Amex but not C1 are worth $300 depends on someone’s particular circumstances. I’m curious about how well the World Elite MC works.
This is what I’m slowly coming to. I’m now wondering if the VX alone can handle the sum total of lounge access compared to the Platinum considering I fly delta a lot. I’m not sure yet.
If I can find a viable lounge substitute in the next month or so, I’ll cancel the platinum.

Good video, but I had an unrelated question. Why do you pronounce Ng as N-g? It is pronounced as "ing". I would hate it if someone pronounced by last name incorrectly, but would hate it even more if someone just spelled it out instead (without trying). Maybe Calby is different.
Oh it’s done on purpose for marketing reasons, everyone can understand N-G vs “ing”, so I say N-G so this way people can type his name in a lot easier if they want to find his channel in the event I don’t put it on the screen.
So it’s not incorrect, it’s how he even tells people his name on the phone so they understand better.
But I get your point, and I literally speak your language Ping haha, I of all people would pronounce things correctly if I thought it was the right thing to do haha.

Not related to concierge Amex dropped the ball with a dispute charge back that I ended up posting on the Twitter company feed that resolved as expected a refund. That ended my daily use of any Amex card, they got that all wrong. Overall the concierge is something I'd not use and this confirms the Amex service has declined.
Oh damn that really sucks, usually they are very good about that stuff. I wonder what the main issue was?

Oh I just booked one for next week; so I’ll share my experience on it. However the concierge had no problem booking it for me.

I wish those credits made sense for me. I want to keep this card but unfortunately it’s just a sign up bonus for me in the end game.

That's kind of 🗑🗑🗑 of Amex. To bad that a lot of World Elite MasterCards aren't as good as the Platinum though 😲
I will say for me there are 3 parts to it that I care about, FHR, Concierge, and lounge access.
I think I just figured out that Mastercard covers the first 2 easily.
Now lounge access can’t be competed with, so that’s the missing part. 😢
Not sure on that. But of course there are other aspects of the card people love, I just don’t care about them much I’ve realized.

@AnthonyVenture I think their luxury hotel collection is closer to Amex Hotel Collection, then FHR. Same as Visa signature and Visa Infinite cards, hotel collections. Which I will check out one day

@AnthonyVenture I think the only difference is FHR gives you the $200 credit for the room too.
Once per year of course, and after paying the $695, but with Bilt Mastercard, doesnt have an annual fee, and can book the hotels over and over.
So theoretically if I care a ton about this, I can just book you know, 3, $200 hotels for the price of 1 platinum and get all the amenities etc.
Of course losing a lot of other things without the platinum though.
