    Since Amex raised the AF to $695 and made some changes to the perks, I feel like they don’t want regular people like most of us to hold on to the platinum card, obviously its perks are not easy to use thats because this card meant to be swiped by frequent travelers (domestic or abroad) and people who normally stay in those high-end hotels and resorts even before they applied for the card. If you feel it difficult to use guess it’s just not for you as simple as that.

    If you're flying business and/or first, you don't even NEED lounges (Also, you can buy Lounge memberships for about the price of the AmEx Platinum)...that being said, I doubt you give up the CS Plat for a few reasons:
    1) you may not like the Mastercard properties
    2) You can still cash out better on that card than any other card on the market
    3) Your points can't become cash with the VX, and that doesn't seem like something you want to deal with.
    I could also see you staying in AmEx and getting a Delta Reserve...but then you'd have to buy Priority Pass to get those international lounges. Kinda depends where y'all are flying.
    Plus, what happens if Platinum comes up with a new gold-finished Platinum in a classic gold colorway?

    • @VincentPascual
      @VincentPascual หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      💯 on point. The inability to cash out points earned on the Venture X at 1 cent per point makes the WF Active Cash and Citi Double Cash more attractive for daily non-category spend. It’s all about being able to choose between cash back at 1 cent per point or transferring to partners.

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture  หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is very interesting and very helpful Matt, thank you for laying this out!
      Yes very true, have been thinking about business/first class to get access to the lounges anyway, very good point.
      So for 1, yes I agree, that’s why I really need to test them first to verify. Calby just did one and he had a good time.
      2. Cash out is good, but I am running out a bit and need some for transfer partners for travel in the future, only need the gold for that.
      3. Yeah very true and that sucks. No way around that. Would have to fall back on Chase.
      Delta Reserve could be cool but even more niche and maybe harder to use, not too sure.
      And the most important part is the last part about a new color, that’s the best thing to keep me around 😂
      So yeah I agree with you on these points, and I have done so, just have to test and try things out until September at least before I decide, I guess we’ll see.

    I’ll tell you what someone I know at Amex told me. If you aren’t traveling at least two times per month, then the Amex Platinum is not the right card for you. How important is airport lounge access if you only travel once or twice per year? Are two visits worth $700? Concierge service, although it has its perks, it really seems to target that busy professional or CEO who doesn’t have the time to make their own arrangements…idk, I think the Platinum is really for a niche demographic which is why the annual fee is so high. If you don’t fit within that demographic, cancel it and move on to something cheaper and better 😃.

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I think you and your friend are right, and I’ve gotten great value out of my lounge access but probably only for 1/3 the fee, so please someone let me pay for an AU 😂

    Here's the truth. Nobody needs an airport lounge. If most people were rational about their analysis, they'd probably find that they're better off just buying all the food they want at an airport restaurant. I have a centurion lounge at my local airport and I have gone on probably a dozen flights in the past 6 months and it's just not worth it to me. Now when I can qualify for the $200 Schwab statement credit it might tip the scales, but even then, it's just not great. Even with a $495 AF, I would use the airline credit (PITA), FHR, and some of the Uber credit. It's just objectively not a great card. And don't even get me started on the gold.

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I think you’re right, I think more so than the price of the food people value the ability to be in these lounges away from everything else I’m assuming, which is harder to put a dollar amount to.

      Oh damn, you’re throwing in $1mm in assets with Schwab, killing it I see haha!

    Was debating the same thing. My last trip had a stopover in Vegas and decided to use the Centurion lounge. Took over an hour to get in. Went into Chase lounge and was completely full although had access through my friend as a guest. Not worth paying that much for the card. Will still keep the hilton card around for the status. Lounges at the closest airport are accessible by priority pass anyways. A little further to Seattle where Alaska is becoming a better option for me anyways!

Big fan of the Venture X myself so definitely a good idea if you gave it a go. Hello Anthony, as always this was a amazing video. I Really enjoyed it.
    My opinion is that you mentioned the price of the platnum & you can certainly get most of the benefits of the platnuim without the actual fee.
    Also its important to know if you will be more interested in international flights and stays in the future because that is where venture x truly shines......
    Venture x demostically is not as powerful as platnuim for lounge access but i live in the texas area and i have never been turned away due to overcrowding in a c1 lounge (at most sometimes small delay)
    If you are looking to be more international priority lounge spanks a lot of the centurion lounge (jacob was not lying)
    We use these cards for travel so they aren't cash back cards.
    I see a lot people switching and saying for you to use your platinum to cash out 1 to 1 but 99% of the time we aren't using these cards for cash back we use them for travel.

I know you’re considering Venture X as an alternative, but with C1 clawing back PP restaurant access, do you see yourself going to more Capital One lounges and giving up access to lounge network including PP with Amex platinum? Are you shifting more to co-branded hotel cards for status versus keeping the Amex platinum? Maybe consider CSR or Ritz card for PP lounge access versus 🗑️ C1? Food for thought…

    Here's another way to think about it.
    When I moved back to my hometown I joined a really nice gym. Nice wooden lockers with a sauna, etc.
    But after a while I ended up switching to a new public Gym.
    What I really like about a nice public gym is I get to see more of the whole community there.
    That's the same way I feel about travel.
    I want to be able to meet unique people. And give them a chance to meet me! That's an important part of the travel experience. It's very important because it expands my understanding of others and makes me a better person.
    I've gone through some fast lines at airports. But I've had the most valuable experiences waiting in the long lines for international flights on big Airbus planes. Just one example was a family traveling back to Nepal. Three generations. A year or two later I sat next to a young mother returning to Nepal who had gone to college in my hometown. I wouldn't have met and got to know any of these people if I had taken the elite lines and only been in business class.

      I think like 2-3x in the last 12 months? I think partly is of course it’s expensive, but with Mastercard I’ve found there are sub $200 hotels with the $100 credit which means I can book them much more often, and just cash points out at 1cpp to pay for it.

    I don’t have the platinum yet but in my opinion can be better if they increase credit to hotel collections and airlines and remove all that stupid credit of Uber, Walmart, sacks, and entertainment I can’t understand why a credit card design to travel offers all that credit that in my opinion don’t help for travel. I have venture X and is great card so far and is very easy get the credits.
