How Much of Batman: Arkham City Can You Complete as Bruce Wayne?

- I decided to put Arkham City to a bit of a stress test. Using a glitch that allowed me to free roam Arkham City as Bruce Wayne, I investigated to see how much of the game you can complete with all of Bruce's gameplay limitations.

As was pointed out by @davidhall7479, there is a Riddler trophy underneath the casino that can be collected that I didn't mention in the video. Normally to collect this trophy you have to step on a Riddler pad to lower a gate and then use the line launcher to get to the trophy without touching the ground. However, if you just punch your way off instead of walking off then the button never deactivates, allowing you to punch all the way to the Riddler trophy and collect it. I didn't know this glitch was a thing until this was commented, so there may be even more Riddler trophies that I overlooked. I'll have to do some more testing and maybe make a part 2 to this video if I find anything.
Also, for anybody wondering, it is possible to put the batsuit on and progress the game as normal after doing this glitch. In the video I show that if you reload the game after collecting a certain Riddler trophy, the game respawns you in the alleyway. If you can't get back that way, then @TheWaffleEdits has a video on his channel showing a route you can take to get back into the alley. Then from there you can climb ACE Chemicals, put on the batsuit, and go about the game as normal

My lore for this run is that the Bat-suit can't enter Arkham City because anti-aircraft guns so Bruce risks it in his normal suit. He then gets shot by Two-face and dies instantly (his spirit haunts the court house to this day)

This game looks prettier.
Its actually amazing that they made so many options for jumping, ledge grabbing, sliding etc in Bruce form, and you only get to play as Bruce at very beggining of game. Probably some of those movement animations are used in Batsuit form, but simply added to Bruce too.

@@coolspider295 Unless you listen to the Arkham City audio tape interviews between Hugo and various rogues. During the sessions between him and Joker, Joker constantly refers to Strange as 'doc'. To which Strange irritably corrects him with 'professor'. So technically I'm only being as picky as the man himself.

I wanna see this done with a mod to swap back and forth in order to break the softlocks and see how much _in total_ can be done by Bruce Wayne, using Batman only to do what Bruce can't.

I'm just imagining an AU where Bruce does literally everything in AC ('cept for carrying Joker's body out, he's somehow in costume by then) as... well, himself. The GCPD gets access to all of the camera feed from Arkham City for invstigative purposes somehow, expecting to see Batman whooping ass as usual... only to see Bruce Wayne, fancy suit and all, stomping literally every single threat into the ground. The freakout they'd have would be amazing. Can't even imagie how Gordon would react lol.
Gordon in the beginning of AC: "Stop putting people in Arkham City. Wayne's lawyers are going to sue the shit out of us for this."
Gordon by the end of AC: "Did Bruce Wayne just put the Joker's dead body on the hood of my car?"
Small correction: You CAN take fall damage as Bruce without glitches. After you climb the building where you talk with Alfred but before contacting him, the invisible walls haven't spawned yet, and you can flip back into the alley where the Penguin and his thugs were, and the fall is high enough to get damaged and even die if you do it enough times.
I remember doing this as a kid over and over because I thought it was funny dying of fall damage as Bruce.

Always wondered what it would be like trying to survive and explore arkham city as just a regular guy, and this gives a great idea. Great content!

I wonder if the reason why he takes fall damage is because that was originally how they prevented you from dropping down off of ledges, and once it turned out that it was very hard to design the level in a way that both made sense and also had him fall to his death from every ledge spot (presumably during testing there were some ledges he didn't die falling from), they just brute forced it and made him completely unable to drop down from hanging ledges instead.
Or maybe they also just planned on having more "Suitless" parts, which would have been really awesome.
Just because of that one scene with the political prisoners near the courthouse, I think they at the very least planned for you to get the suit later in the intro.
You could do Arkham Origins as Ninja Bruce Wayne next. He has way more potential, but will probabaly get stuck at some point too.
I'm hoping to do Arkham Origins eventually, but it will be a massive undertaking. I'm not nearly as familiar with Origins as I am with City, so I'm sure that game will take forever in testing. I do plan to get around to it someday though
Nobody is. Arkham Origins is the black sheep of the series with it being a prequel and having diffrent voice actors.@@splinterchalk

I think the reason for why you can't jump off balancing areas (if that's the right term) is because when playing as Batman, he will start gliding. But if you can't glide off, you can't jump off.
Edit: They're called perches. Not balancing areas. Just a brain fart on my end.

I just love it when he says "don't worry, you'll get there" implying that I would actually try and do something like that. No way, man, that's why I watch the video, so I don't have to do that myself. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't even come up with such an idea.
As Bruce is climbing up buildings all I hear in my head is Pickle Rick's voice "GET THAT PARKOUR, GET THAT PARKOUR"
I would love to see a mod that makes the game completable as Bruce Wayne. Maybe you do get some of the gadgets, but you still take fall damage and can't glide (admittedly I'm pretty sure there's one or two parts where gliding is a requirement beyond just those minigames where you can test the suit out), obviously give him the ability to drop from ledges and railings, etc. It'd be pretty wild.
There are mods out there for Bruce.
Give him a long jump or double jump and a short grappling range. And i see a great base for a daredevil game. That would really heavily on parkour

Some of my favorite time savers when playing City and Asylum involve just skipping certain steps of the story.
In Asylum, You don't actually have to go back to the mansion and talk with cash before you do the killer croc levels.
And in City you can skip a few predator/combat encounters by passing across them.
It's my understanding that the only way to get hurt by falling in these games as any character is by crossing the kill Z volume, and the default pawn class in unreal engine hasn't had fall damage implemented either, so I can't possible fathom why Bruce can take fall damage unless the devs were toying with it and changed it later, or if they wanted you to die before continuing the game as Bruce
I personally suspect that they had changed their minds on having more bruce wayne based content whether at the start or in dlc.
@danielhaycroft1597 I think it would be pretty interesting to mix between the two, working with standard Bruce's limitations part time. People really didn't like the "civilian stealth" missions in Spiderman, but I think that's mostly because of how sequential they were, and cause all you could really do was make some distractions at very set-up points. If developers tried to do the same kind of thing, but with freeroam and tradeoffs instead of "you're just infinitely weaker now" I think it has untapped potential
I love how the devs made the city traversable by foot, in case someone just doesn't want to use the glide mechanic
It's like, an ordinary man CAN traverse Arkham city and a thug theoretically can chase batman to the ends of the world
Limited Traversal was one of my favorite things to do. The map is so genius even if accidental at times.

It took me like a whole minute to recognize the song being played by a recorder, but I got it. Well done.
Watching this video made me wish the game had a more limited use of the grappling gun and cape gliding cause the traversal seems pretty fun and engaging. The game should've made us use the environment more and be more in touch with it as we climb ledges and jump from rooftop to rooftop, not just basically flying above them.
this video really got me thinking of how interesting and egaging it would be to see this aproach in Arkham Origins. Sience the purpose is having batman on the begining of his career, it would be the perfect oportunity to have a more limited set of skills and gadgets (including the treversal system) that makes the player think outside the box on how to proceed the game.

Here's a challenge: Use console commands to load in Robin in the main story and see how many trophies you can collect as him. You could also do the same with Nightwing, but I would find Robin more entertaining.

@@lakshaykochhar6799 I do as well, I always felt that there was a lot of untapped or inproperly utilized potential in the Assassin's Creed series.
The original games kinda did that sometimes with sync points but even those "puzzles" often felt too linear for me.
@@terry2295 At least, it felt like they were trying with Altaïr and Ezio games. After them, it's like they give up; they dumb-down the parkour and simply took away our control over our's character movement.

i don't know how thorough the Arkham City hacking scene ever got but I wonder if it'd be possible to cheat slightly with a companion app for the PC version that just tells you where the next active telephone for that side mission is. Obviously it's a bit outside the spirit of the challenge but it'd be neat to see just how far you could get, and if just maybe Bruce could finish a side mission altogether.
