Best 3 rounds ever! Hearts broke his right hand in the first round and couldn’t throw it with the same power after. Not saying the outcome would have been different, but maybe. He was tagging Hagler in the first. Amazing fight!
I've talked about Hagler vs The Beast Mugabe for years and nobody remembers it. It was so cool to see Rogan validate that fight. It was the best fight I've ever seen, and it was the greatest thing a 14 year old kid could watch, not because of the violence but because of the heart it takes to dig deep and give every last bit of yourself to finish. These men gave everything to that fight. it's a MUST watch!
I just watched this fight last week. That Hagler superman punch that finished Mugabe is un-fucking-believable. It may be my favorite fight of all time. Hagler was skilled, tough, durable, and has absolutely zero quit in him.
It’s the best boxing match that has EVER occurred Hearns at one point had held titles in more weight classes than any other boxer, but Marvelous was just crazy nasty that night.
Hagler vs. Hearns was my favorite fight of all-time. Glad Joe brought it up. Everybody that enjoys a good competition and hasn't seen it already needs to see that match.
Hagler did not did not die at home. He was hospitalized after a bad reaction to the vaccine for the ChiComVirus. Tommy Hearns went public asking for prayers for his old foe in the hospital. Tommy expected Hagler to recover but Marvin passed. We miss him badly. We love Tommy for what he did. Tragic.
Yeah I'm glad Joe Rogan pointed out Hagler's legendary ability to absorb punishment. I've watched all of his televised fights & I have never seen him wobbled or hurt, which is remarkable when you consider he fought at the highest level for so long..
A huge highlight of my teen years was watching Hagler fight. It never gets old watching Hagler and Hearns throw bombs at each other for 3 rounds. Respect to both men.

Best fight I ever saw was Aaron Pryor vs Alexis Arguello I (not II). I was in the hospital that night and I literally removed the IV from my arm, got dressed and split without authorization because there was no way in hell I was going to miss that fight. I was a boxing fanatic back then, knew that styles make fights, so I knew that fight had the potential to be a classic, but it was even better than I thought it might be. Best fight I have ever seen. It's on TH-cam. If you haven't seen it, watch it.
Saw it at the time on TV. Always felt sorry for Arguello cos he was fighting an immovable object. Rumour has it that Prior was 'roided, which as with Holyfield, make them immune to punches and pain.
Can't remember but I think that fight was at junior welter weight. Rumor was that Leonard, Hearns and every other welter weight was ducking the Hawk (He was crazy good and would have easily transitioned to the higher weight class). But not Arguello, that guy had the heart of a champion. There was just no quit in that guy. Kind of reminded of the way the Condit vs Lawler fight went down (for an MMA comparison). No quitting, both men were willing to die in the ring. That is one of the things that helps the MMA - no Don Kings! The promoters and the ability to duck and avoid fights just isn't in the MMA nearly like it was in the boxing world. Not sure if Pryor was juicing or not but everyone knew he was drugged up on coke. All the more respect to Alexis for never mentioning any of that and the two actually became good friends. Arguello was another who died far too young.
This fight was even more insane than Rogan seems to realize. By round 2, Hearns style HAD to change not because of some tactical strategy, but because he had already broken his hand in round 1. The time-out at the start of round 3 was because Hagler was bleeding pretty bad and the doctor was called to advise. Hagler was no stranger to unfair scoring from judges, and was immediately paranoid that the fight would be called. In lieu of this urgency, and sensing hearns handicap, Hagler went all in. There is no fighter who ever lived who had Haglers training ethic. he isolated himself in cape cod in the winter and would run at 3 am on frozen beaches w negative temp wind chill to condition his lungs and body to pain. He was more monk than showman. ppl didnt understand him, which is probably why he never got the respect he deserves.
Hearns broke his hand in the first round .. that’s why he started moving , but he kept fighting and wouldn’t tell anyone cause ‘he didn’t wanna take anything away from Hagler’ - best fight ever .. both men are legends
Still the greatest fight I have ever seen. Started chucking them from the first bell. Someone was going down and had thought for one moment Tommy had him. Still tried throwing bombs with a broken hand. Was awesome to watch.
The ref almost stopped the fight in the third round due to a cut on Hagler’s head. There was blood all over his face. People were worried at the time that he would lose because of it. Caused by a Hearns right cross, people speculate that it’s what drove him so hard in the third to get that killer knockout of Hearns. What an amazing fight. Two all time greats.
Many years later Tommy Hearns admitted he broke his right hand in the second round, but never said anything because he didn't want to take anything away from Hagglers well deserved big win... Thats sportsmanship you just don't see anymore....
Hagler's body shots moved organs, taken those round after round had to hurt for a long time after the final bell...and yes, Hagler won the Leonard fight...
Just a couple of things. The fight was set for 15 ROUNDS, not 12. The other thing is that Hearns was moving up in weight to challenge Hagler, as he beat Duran at 154 pounds. Hagler was a career Middleweight (160 pounds for those who don't know). 6 pounds might not seem like much but at high-level combat, it makes a difference if you're not used to carrying it.
R.I.P to the legendary Marvin Hagler , one of the toughest men to ever step in the ring 🙏🏾

Gina my bank account! I got 300$ lmao
I grew up in Brockton, MA, Marvelous Marvin Hagler's hometown. I was in high school at the height of his career. I was a huge fan, but just a kid. It is nice to hear Joe describe how truly phenomenal he was, as I grieve. Rest In Power Marvelous!
These were the best fights .also Aaron Pryor vs Alexis arguello
The first one yeah agreed one of the best boxing fight of the 80's,but had a very brutal knockout.
Pryor was a SAVAGE
Pryor during that fight with Alexis, was give in a stimulant in his corner . Needed a drug to beat Alexis.
RIP Marvin Marvelous Hagler Greatest Bar Room Brawl ever. Three rounds of total offensive. Down in History as one of the Greatest.
RIP MARVIN, you did Brockton proud..!
All of us but Marvin called Brockton home. Respect.
If you was going to build the perfect boxer. They would come out as Marvelous Marvin Hagler. The guy didn't have a weakness. I doubt we will see his kind again. RIP Champ.
Best 3 rounds ever! Hearts broke his right hand in the first round and couldn’t throw it with the same power after. Not saying the outcome would have been different, but maybe. He was tagging Hagler in the first. Amazing fight!
Rest in Paradise Marvin Marvelous Hagler!
That fight went 3 rounds and ended with hagler nailing hearns ,who still had a big smile on his face going down ,insane fight between two top dogs .
RIP Champ , 66 is much too young. Thanks for the memories Marvelous Marvin.
The screenshot. Hearns looks like a sculpture with 0% fat, all muscle.
I believe most of those guys in the 80s were on gear.
@@tlig Probably. It was the Wild West back then.
This should have well over a million views,2 absolute ALL TIME boxing Legends and True BRUTES!
It’s the best boxing match that has EVER occurred
Hearns at one point had held titles in more weight classes than any other boxer, but Marvelous was just crazy nasty that night.
Hagler vs. Hearns was my favorite fight of all-time. Glad Joe brought it up. Everybody that enjoys a good competition and hasn't seen it already needs to see that match.
WAR. Been watching a lot of Hagler and Hearns, lately. Legends. Rest in Peace, Marvin Hagler.
R.I.P to "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler, who passed away unexpectedly at his family home in New Hampshire earlier at the age of 66.
Not sure unexpectedly. Tommy had a tweet wish him good luck in the hospital a few days earlier
Tragic.
@@IronHorsey3 what's worse is that post got taken down
Tommy broke his hand on that head. I’m a Tommy fan but Marvelous was the best.
Hagler had a concrete head along with insane conditioning.
Yeah I'm glad Joe Rogan pointed out Hagler's legendary ability to absorb punishment.
I've watched all of his televised fights & I have never seen him wobbled or hurt, which is remarkable when you consider he fought at the highest level for so long..
Even if Im drunk and losing the convo, all you gotta do is reference Hag/Hearns and your back in bizness.
A huge highlight of my teen years was watching Hagler fight. It never gets old watching Hagler and Hearns throw bombs at each other for 3 rounds. Respect to both men.
Julian "The Hawk" Jackson
Quite possibly the p4p biggest hitter of all time
He took Norris chin and most likely damaged McClellan, hardest hitter for sure
SCARY power by the Hawk
@@oceanpacific3841 He definitely damaged McClellan. If i remember correctly, he took some serious hits from Julius before he took him out. It didn't help him jumping from one savage puncher to the next. Benn hit you hard with bad intentions!
A very, VERY dangerous man.
Hands down, one of the best fights ever! Straight up brawl!!
"I do give a lot of respect to Tommy Hearns at this moment beyond the fact that you know he came to fight,he showed me great skills and a lot of courage" - Marvin Hagler(2003 Documentary)
Ever since that era of boxing had past I never had any interest left in me. Haggler, Sugar Ray, Hearns, Duran...
The 4horsemen!
Hagler is spelt wth 1 g 😉
Greatest fight👊 WAR!!!..
Joe “merkin myself under the desk” Rogan.
Getting a little excited about 80’s boxing...
Remember how bloody Marvin's face was in that first round? What a fight!
Imagine if Hearns had some EPO.
Would have probably gotten a bold clot from all those hits.
No one was tested in those day just ask mike tyson trainer teddy atlas
@@jessicalacasse6205 bro it wasnt a thing back then
Greatest fight in history. 👏
The greatest 3 rounds of boxing ever
I agree
The first big match I watched and still the greatest fight ever. The first round is the best thing I've ever seen.
This fight turned me into a boxing nut! Never forget it, was 12 when I watched it(on tape) to be there would have been off the wall! Absolute legends
Originally Hagler/Hearns was billed as "The Fight," it would later become recognized as "The War."
The level of cardio and conditioning to throw that many punches was insane, elite fitness and guts.
Hagler had insane cardio, with insane power..
Hearns broke his hand in the first round .. that’s why he started moving , but he kept fighting and wouldn’t tell anyone cause ‘he didn’t wanna take anything away from Hagler’ - best fight ever .. both men are legends
Hagler vs Mugabe is the ultimate lesson in war of attrition, and pure power punches all day.
Great fight outdoors. Steam coming off Hagler’s head.
Totally agree.
Greatest fight ever. Ruined mugabi and softened up hagler for sugar ray
I don't know if they make fighters like that anymore.
Great fight also Hagler's toughest 💪
was so fortunate to be around for this whole era in boxing.....Hearns was my man!......such a great time in boxing history
Thanks. Just went and watched that fight. Was awesome
Round number one is still the craziest thing I've ever seen in boxing.
one of my all time fav fights... and one of the best fighting era's .. haglar/hearns/duran/leonard... forget it
Even Tyson said Hearns' right hook was BRUTAL .
Still the greatest fight I have ever seen. Started chucking them from the first bell. Someone was going down and had thought for one moment Tommy had him. Still tried throwing bombs with a broken hand. Was awesome to watch.
Hearns broke his hand, he couldn’t keep him off after that!
Hagler was top 5 all time. Never KO'd, never close to getting stopped, just a monster. But was so technical and smart.
Both are legends man. These two gave us an all time great fight. That's why they are legends and everyone knows it.
Hands down the most action packed 3 most brutal rounds in modern day boxing period!!...yes it was a WAR not a fight.
Hagler body shots destroyed organs... After a Hagler fight, opponents we're urinating blood, for weeks...
RIP to the toughtest middleweight ever. That fight with Hearns rightfully earned the name "The War".
Watching Hagler & Hearns was like watching a street fight. It was amazing.
Marvin hagler on the joe rogan podcast I'd love to watch that, my personal favourite fighter of all time
Still jump around like a 12 year old girl on XMAS morning watching Hagler VS Hearns. Simply marvelous.
Hagler was my favourite boxer in the 1980's.
I still have the poster from this fight. Greatest ten minutes of sports I’ve ever seen!
