  • Hey guys this is tutorial that i made on how to add a USB to the front of your dash in the Tahoe, Suburban ,Yukon , Yukon XL etc etc. If you have any questions ask down below ill answer them as soon as i can!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Parts:
    USB:
    amzn.to/2IwuWEn .
    Cigarette Lighter Cap
    amzn.to/2WVMBia
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Answers i have before you ask them!
    Does the USB ports charge fast?
    Yes, Very fast in my opinion i get a good amount of charge then i would with a regular cigarette lighter port.
    Does it need to be that one you have?
    No, there LED lights with a couple of them the but i prefer it to be with no light so it don't add any other color to the front!

    • @BuildItGeorge

      Yes, Its OEM but the installation is different because of that reason. They don't have a hot and ground you connect because it's hooked up to the OEM navigation! They started using them when they redone the nav for the later models. Google the Part Number 20944422 and this will be the piece you are looking for

    So could I run two of these USB ports off of those wires by piggy backing them? Or would that take away power from both

    • @BuildItGeorge
      @BuildItGeorge  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kaleb Casey Yes you could run two of them instead of the cigarette lighter port. But for them to draw less power if both are being used is something I’m uncertain about! They both have there own wired from what i noticed but i never saw them merge into one big harness. So they should have there own fuse therefore there own power draw. This can be followed up by looking in your fuse box on the driver side and inside the engine bay where they will have a diagram showing you each fuse if your concerned about using both simultaneously! I hope this helped!

  • @tomdetroye3028
    @tomdetroye3028 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hey "You Guys"... you can do this in about 5 minutes by going in from the front, without removing the dash panels, by just depressing the two clips inside the plastic retainer as you pull/carefully pry it out, then the lighter, then detach the plug, put the new retainer in and re-plug the lighter and retainer, and you're done.

      Hiya as much as i would have loved to do it the way you suggested! Im knocking two birds with one stone the way i did it with more than enough room to work with. Having to work in a small space like that the way you suggested isn’t my cup of tea! But i made the tutorial with ease and no stress in mind! Thank you for your two cents!

    My only comments are use the crimping portion of the tool to crimp the wires in the connectors, and test it before you reassemble the panel and then test a second time when finished.

    Since the old cigarette lighter socket had power to it with the ignition off, how did you make sure that the usb 5v socket was not a parasitic draw on the battery when vehicle was parked?

    • @BuildItGeorge
      @BuildItGeorge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats how the car is programmed. Even without the USB the cigarette lighter is always active now charging your device could cause a parasitic loss but never had an issue throughout my years of ownership regardless.

    That is not the way to crimp on a spade connector. Proper tools exist to make this connection sound and safe. High currents and poorly made connections are a potential fire hazard.
    Best remove the cigarette lighter fuse and test with a volt meter for voltage present. Cutting both wires at once could blow your cigarette plug feed fuse… otherwise just cut each wire separately with side cutters to avoid making a short circuit.
