Massively helpful vid, my 12v socket in centre console literally just stopped working, which is a bummer as I only have one other and that’s in the boot (trunk) following your simple and easy to understand videos prt1 and 2 about this issue I managed to trace the failure point all the way to the actual cigarette lighter housing itself. Power was flowing all the way to the connector that plugs in to the cigarette lighter but that’s where it ends. Managed to get a replacement from Audi directly swapped over and boooooom all working again. Thanks to you!
Extremely good diagnostic and repair video for a nonworking cigar lighter port. Well beyond the price of admission, knows his stuff at a high professional level. Also, his tutorial graphics are are impressive. Thank you!
Finally! OMG and I just got a multimeter. I’ve already replaced the fuse and it didn’t fix it. BRO EVERY video was “just replace the fuse. The fuse. The fuse will fix it” but it DIDN’T. I’ll be doing these steps soon and will finally have my answer!!!!
Thank you for very informative and easily understood videos. I’m not a car electrician by any means so I certainly appreciate the well organized and explanative information. Both my console and dash lighters stopped working at different times. I only checked the fuse panel near the glove box. I know now I can find the issue and get them both working. Thank you, again from a non-electrician and mechanic.
Great help - I found the problem is the positive pole of the socket, now to find a replacement. BTW, I use that same cheap meter from Harbor Freight. Handy enough for many jobs.
My first time! This is very detailed, he spoke well, not hurried, with a clear voice. I subscribed. I like this video, the one before and will start looking him up instead of others now!!
Fantastic video. Love the diagram at the beginning, and your clear and simple way of explaining things. Your video helped me to extract my socket, which showed that the wires behind it were simply unplugged. Plugged it right in and socket is working again. Many thanks. Ive subscribed
This is such an informative video. This coming from a woman that's pretty handy. I followed this perfectly. You just gained a new subscriber!!! Thank you SO much!!! 😊
Please keep up the good work. You are helping so many dum dums like myself, and I speak for all of us when I say that I'm very grateful for YT creators like you. I hope that you and all the other helpful DIY VID Creators make 100 times as much as people making nonsense "viral videos" 🙄
Big thank you for the teaching! A total loss you didn't go to teach in college! I looked at the diagram you drew on the board and checked every component in the circuit with a multimeter and I realized the circuit is good and it should work so I plugged in a different charger and everything worked fine.🙂🙃
Great video! Thank you for not giving us you life story orthat your cat just had kittens ect. You are right to the point and thorough. I subscribed and will check your video out first the next time I need advice.
Very good ,detailed video, I don't know crap about a car so I have to go to TH-cam to get the answers and it is a very good detailed describable video you can understand real easily and get to the problem thank you
Thanks for this video ot keeps me from getting scammed at the Auto Electric Shop. Which they have tried to do once. They want $90 an hour to trouble shoot. No way...
power good with dvm at connector; however the issue was the dvm leads are sharp and make contact. The problem was corrosion on the center connector. Cleaning that up fixed the problem
Hey can you please show how to replace a socket for a 1991 Toyota Winnebago Warrior motorhome RV? I need the power to charge my electronics. I will try one of the items listed in the last video. And thanks for reminding us to unplug the battery when removing the socket itself. I do not feel like getting electrocuted.
2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. I'm getting power to the cig socket, but socket is only putting out around 4 - 5 volts...any ideas? I received an OEM replacement socket today, but it's too cold to work on the car. Do the cig sockets ever go bad and have reduced voltage output like this? Thanks.
When your checking the wire connections behind the cigarette lighter, did you put the fuse back or no. Because when I have to check mine. The Cigarette lighter and the Radio are the same fuse (2002 Mazda 323 Astina). Also my fuse box is in the driver side compartment, so I can't voltmeter the fuse to the battery, unless I buy a 5 metre extension or something haha.
Great video? However if anyone has a different socket like one for the old fashioned cigarette lighter. If you use the lighter to light your smokes? Ash & 1/2 burned smoking materials will accumulate inside the socket. I know this from experience. I was using a friends cigarette lighter outlet to air up her car tires with a portable compressor. I removed her lighter element & inserted the plug. (Nothing). I tried turning my plug in the socket looking for a better connection? Nothing worked? I asked her if she used her car cigarette lighter? “Yes, just the other day she lit a cigarette with it”. Well, upon further examination was a layer of debris in the bottom of the socket. I suggested she tap the lighter in her ashtray after lighting her cigarettes. That would keep the debris to a minimum. I had to use compressed air in a can to blow out the debris. Then it worked. Looks like the negative post on your battery has corrosion around it? Try a solution of warm water & a little baking soda. Then disconnect post & use an old tooth brush & apply mixed solution on there. That neutralizes the corrosion & removes all the “caking” on the battery post & connection without any other effort. Apply a very thin coat of silicone after tightening up the connection to minimize corrosion.
Good info! But, one more thing to check. The fuse kept blowing when trying to charge a phone. After much fruitless diagnosis, it turns out the 12v to USB A adapter the lady was using to charge her phone was defective. Switched to a different adapter and problem solved.
My Volkswagen Jetta 2012 has power in the socket but when a coin fell in there I used a flat screw driver to take it out since then it will charge when I put my phone on but the battery goes down instead of up any advice?
Hello , i need some help with cigarette lighter socket.. how i can stop power in socket when i turn off the car ( it is allways powered now ) thanx a lot
I have a 05 Yukon and it has a fuse for the cigarette lighter but I have three cigarette lighters and two of them don't work on the passenger side and also the one to the back seat.
MIne is acting weird in a 1995 Sunfire: At car start, it reads 13.8v but as the car operates, the voltage drops to 11.5v or lower, but check this out:'The battery voltage with the car operating is still 13.8v. This lighter socket is live at all times, not dependent on the ignition switch. Anyone can point me in the right direction?
This a real video any video where they say the fuse was the problem be fake cause 90%+ of the time its not i never seen a incident where the fuse alone fixed the cig lighter
Got toyota Corolla sr5 coupe manual 1.6 1987 be four the lighter put my car off the lighter got off now no do it any more put my car off lighter stay on thing tgas right my battery like 2 or 3 day it die you think got problem with the cable the car thank can helps
I used a TV and Xbox on a power inverter and it Immediately turned off and made a click noise so I assumed it was a fuse but I replaced the ones under the dash but it still won't work.
I have 10V at my lighter plug even when my fuse is pulled out. The 10V is not enough to power the portable FM transmitter. My centre console power plug outputs 12V as expected. This occurred put of blue after 14 years of no issue. I am at a loss...
My fuse looks good, socket looks new but both cigarette lighter plugs dose not work. What could be wrong, can some1 guide me what should i do? Its frustrating to drive car without power outlet.
I took mine out took it apart cleaned the contacts with a brass wire blush and put it back together. It's so simple, it shouldn't fail. I'll let you know how it works. I got it to work once, then it stopped again, so I decided to take it apart and clean the crusty contacts. It should work now, but I'm curious about the horn contact relay replacement now. Wherever that's located.
@@HRTsAFyre no I definately fried something internal because I plugged a 150 watt hot bag into it not knowing it was only 120w. Went to the junkyard and was able to grab one out of another sentra
@@HRTsAFyre and in sentras the whole socket is soldered together and the only part im really able to clean is where the socket hooks up to the harness.
@@Usef320 well I'm still having the same issue. The lighter socket has current, but just like before the lighter doesn't heat up or pop out. It did this intermittently before I took it apart, so I guess I'm still troubleshooting. Also, the two charging ports on each side both work as well and they pigtail off the main lighter. 🙄
Oh by the way. Mine wasn't soldered together but basically there is nothing to burn up inside the lighter housing. Mine is made out of the metal casing a ceramic base with metal contacts where the plug makes contact then more metal contacts inside with a ceramic washer, the screw post and a nut that holds it together. It's pretty basic. When the lighter is depressed it allows the current in to make contact with the lighter elements. When it's heated the metal expands and releases the hot lighter.

there's no power getting to the fuse

I'd check the fuses first.

I have one that is working and one is not

Man mine keeps popping the fuse I think I have to replace or open the cigarette lighter it’s self
The charger lights up but my phone won’t charge.
Get a new wire
plugs light up in outlet but nothing with actually.charge or turn on from it. so what is causing this? correct voltage fuse is installed
Bad charger
Why tf would you check from battery to each side of the fuse and not just continuity across fuse 😂
very helpful and to the point!!! THANK YOU!
