  • I replaced one of my cigarette lighters with a 2 port USB port. Very easy to do and inexpensive. Pull the fuse out before doing the job or you can potentially blow the fuse. Get the USB port here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01...

New model here with on/off button and 3amp.

Great video bro, you’re the only one that actually says what color wire is hot and I watched a few different videos. Great job, keep up the great work

Might have blown a fuse when you cut both the power and ground at the same time causing a dead short. Really should cut the wires individually

That's exactly what happened. Thanks for the comment.

Going to do both of them this week on my 2005 Suburban. No need for a cig lighter so this will be a nice upgrade. Thanks for the video!

Came out great, didn’t take long and much more versatile than a cigarette lighter.

LOL, did same thing here today. The blown fuse is when we cut the wires. I know this from past experiences, but I forgot. Just as I cut the wires, I knew I’d blown the fuse. The cutters short the circuit and the fuse does it’s job and blows. If you’re doing this, cut the wires one at a time guys. Off to the store for 15 amp mini fuse

Good video, thanks! I'll be doing this on my 2004 Suburban.
You probably blew the fuse when you cut both wires together at the same time. If your car is like mine, you have power to that outlet even with the power off, so you just shorted them out when you cut them!

That's exactly what happened. Good luck on your project.

Really helpful video, thank you! Has the LED staying on ever caused any battery issue? I assume it draws a small current from the battery but just want to be safe. Thank you

420gtown Glad the video helped and thanks for the comment. I haven't had any trouble with battery drain, but this truck has 2 batteries and it rarely sits longer than 3 days. Cheers

Why not just buy another GM power outlet just like the one on the passenger side? The harness looks to be the same.

I wanted usb outlets instead of cigarette lighter outlets.

They're called spade connectors, female type. I can't remember if they came with the usb plug though.

That's true. I do enjoy the convenience of it though and the blue matches my dash lights.
