My BMW E60 M5 gets an Eisenmann RACE EXHAUST.. ENDS BADLY (Gearbox Destroyed)

- So I finally got round to installing an exhaust on the M5, not any ordinary one but an Eisenmann Race Exhaust. Pretty much the go to for the S85 V10, however the excitement was short lived, because well SMG life.

I had similar problem in my M6, but mine wouldn't go in gear at times. Turned out to be clutch slave cylinder, so changed the clutch and flywheel as had to remove gearbox to locate the slave cylinder.
Good choice for the exhaust, same as the one I got. Sounds even naughty if u remove the secondary cats!!
Get an evolve remap, will transform the car totally with the mods!!

I have a SMG E46 M3. I'd love to see what you gotta do in order to fix the SMG gearbox, then I can be prepared to what may come my way too. Love the content of all your videos! GL hope the SMG M5 V10 gets back on the road shortly!

My car was 3k for new clutch and flywheel at BMW. You didn't get any "cog of death" icons coming up. That's a bit unusual?
Manual swap it. It would be legendary

It's a real shame about the problems you faced with the clutch/gearbox, but perhaps now's the time to consider installing a totally manual gearbox. Whatever you decide, just keep 'living the dream!'

Wow, Eisenmann 😮. The system every BMW nut dreamed about putting on their car in the early-mid 2000s, no matter if it was actually an M or just 318i 😂. Big investment for an exhaust but well worth it. Cannot share the view of some people that this car is a money pit. All older BMWs will have issues, especially if one drives them properly. If you still love it, fix it use it and potentially fix it again 😬.
And then fix it again....and again.....and again.... they are one of the biggest known moneypits of the automotive World. Even BMW specialists have this view.

This was the exact color combo and exhaust I had.........DAMN AWESOME BEAST!!! I miss that sound.
Have done something similar, I guess when your clutch is thin already downshifting on 8k rpm can destroy the remaining clutch. After that my shifts has become rough from standstill. When we opened the clutch, 1/2 of clutch was gone. I think the robot did actually well driving with 1/2 clutch plate. The gearbox is pretty ok, I suggest when you drop it to shrink wrap or in my case put liquid electrical tape on the wiring harness. You will see it on the top, the wires are thin so best to protect it. This part can’t be bought individually, it comes with the gearbox. I also did mine using Luk and Sachs clutch kit from FCP Euro.
Car sounds mad can’t wait to see more content sad time for e60 but hey guess we gonna get more fun from it after the common faults

I can guarantee it won't be kept long. These cars are too unreliable and sap bank accounts dry regularly. He will pump thousands into it and it will want more and more.

Looks like clutch. It could be the start of a plcd issue, mine behaved like that when it failed, but I also got the yellow and red cog of death. In a rare case it could be one of the solenoids. The box itself is strong, the hydraulics and electrics are what fail around it.

sounds gearbox/clutch rather than the smg. smg usually wouldnt select at all if faulty and throw up a light on the dash.
smg is a pretty simple system. pump motor builds pressure for multiple shifts, solenoids release pressure when gear selected. pump then builds pressure agin when multiple shifts occur. if you can select all gears. its working.
inpa is a must have tool for smg owners.
I'm a big fan of joe his a real bmw guy and knows how to drive

I’m a fan of the muffler delete personally, but if I were to get a back box, it would most definitely be an Eisenmann race.

A few of my clutch pressure plate bolts failed years ago causing the vanes on the pressure plate to lift slightly, The clutch position sensor didn’t know where the biting point was making the drive home very rough and jerky, maybe this is what happened to yours.

this is exactly what happened to my car. Ended up being the clutch position sensor. Would cause the clutch to forget its position and collide with the flywheel like a bad manual driver trying to learn how to drive. Might be a cheap fix if its just that sensor. Best of luck friend
Anyone doing burnouts like that on a dry grippy road is going to break the gearbox
If memory serves, last time he had problems start to show up with the SMG, it was after doing burnouts.. probably time to take the hint that the gearbox doesn't like it.
Exactly what I was thinking when watching it. Doing repeated burnouts like that in the dry puts so much load through the gearbox it heats right up. Everything is in the gearbox is now working inside a pressure cooker.
I did want to comment that last video.. had a feeling the gearbox was on its way out sounds like not enough oil & caused damage. MANUAL SWAP. Has to be. That would be phenomenal.
And slower with the conversion.
