I have a 6 speed manual M6 here in the states. LOVE it! Don't let the haters tell you the SMG or DSC is better for this car. If you want to enjoy driving your V10 BMW then get/swap the manual, if you want ultimate performance get a race car. Also DSC off was available as a software update from 2008 I believe. Not sure what the TSB number is, but that's what google is for.
M5 and M6 with v10 were only made for North American market and rest of the globe had that terrible automatic. Ironic ,is it not? Ask somebody from Europe they will tell you that In America people don't know haw to drive manual and yet BMW made manual for North America and because it was requested from potential customers.LOL
You're perfect to solve this question I've got - do you get to turn off DSC and DTC completely? Allowing the car to move freely. Before the update you just had DTC or you had DTC and DSC but you just couldn't turn it off entirely?

Am I seeing it right, that there is no Option for "DSC off" anymore? On an BMW M Car? Love the idea of the Manual swap on that thing, but no Option for DSC off, in a BMW, especially in an M Version seams not realy worth it.
yeah I was gutted when I heard that... I have a manual swap e46 M3, and if I were told that there would be no DSC off, I would rather stick with SMG. I believe since E60 manual swaps are very new there are still missing pieces in the puzzle, they will find a way to code it out in the future.
As an owner of a white m6 v10 traction control off is a must. SMG is not as bad as people say on the road, city probably its where it shines less. 6 years and 40k put on it, beauty of a car.

Awesome!! I love that you guys have done this. I was once on a BMW training course and they had pre-production E60 M5's for us to play with. They said the shifting force needed to change gear in the auto box would need the equivalent of a 1.5 meter long gear leaver if it were manual 💪 Everybody loved the car, especially the sound of the V10 but hated the 'auto' box!! To this day its one of the best sounding cars out there, enjoy 😁
DSC off is possible, you need a MDM panel from a US car and coding, it can probably be coded with existing panel using the tpms button. I have a 6MT swap and DSC off works just fine.
The soundtrack between 10:25 and 10:55 is weirdly enough super inspiering, of course together with the beautiful camera job. Great upload, Drivetribe 🙂 As always. Love the V10. I will rate the sound as a 0.0045 on the Richter scale.

People with the SMGs really ought to run a RVS Technology transmission treatment in them. Completely transforms the transmission and pretty much eliminates the lurching. When driven right, the SMG in these is a lot of fun.
These are essentially manuals I believe it’s the correct thing to do as the smg gearbox is terrible. Personally I would avoid the e60 and the e46 due to the vanos and gearbox issue’s. E92 M3 is the better all rounder.

Would be nice if you guys sold a kit so it’s plug and play for us home mechanics. Sell the manufactured bits, the wiring look and the few other bits that we can’t find at the parts yard.
Thanks for sharing this video. I had an e60 saloon new, 2005-2010, and loved it. I loved the SMG box as much as Ben did in your previous video. It was an acquired taste and took a while to love, so the car was rarely loved by one-day-drive magazine journalists. And it was awful in “auto” mode- it needed the paddles. Your car definitely isn’t carbon black; I think it’s deep sea blue.
@8:50 and @16:43 You can clearly see it's not carbon black, pretty sure it's Monaco Blue. I don't think Deep Sea was used on E60 M5, unless it was Individual.
@@weezy013 Looks a little less purple than the Deep Sea Blue x5 in my garage, but you never know how differences in lighting will effect how a color looks on camera.

@@mikewest712 he was one of many who made this car famous, I own one my self in Florida sapphire black manual 08 , before had smg really issues on issues but both drove amazing, u just never want to drive smg in drive mode only manual mode all the time, but 8000 rpm shifts on smg was mental, manual don’t give me that feeling but now I can actually daily my m5 and not worried being stuck on a road in 1st gear.
This makes me miss working on cars. But then I remember the stress of dropping a bolt into the engine bay and looking for it. Then I feel better watching on YT from my bed. :)
You should have changed out the main bearings in that V10 when you swapped it. Might help it last another 5k miles. These engines are the running joke of the automotive world.
Enzo's spin is 10/10. It would be interesting to see one of these manual swapped, but with the smg. So clutch pedal and h gate shifter, but with 7 gears.
I think its so ironic that the the manual M5 was only offered in America while the estate M5 was only offered in europe. You build yourself the holy grail :)

As any mechanic can say, there was a lot of swearing, broken bolts, and electronical failures in-between the actual filmed shots 😂 The end results were absolutely smashing though!

You can shut the DSC off. My manual e60 M5 has it, the dealer did the TSB.
Appropriate gearbox - the E92 M3 engine is just the V10 from the E60 with two cylinders chopped off (even the rod bearing issue is carried across😁).
That happens more often. If it works as a v10 its will as a v8
