    Just bought my DLX this February and ive only got 9k miles in it so far (zx14r). I do have a Cardo Packtalk Bold installed. I dont have much experience with helmets but i was expecting things to b muffled more and my vision to be blocked. Not the case with this lid. The only complaint i have really is the ear pockets seem to b small. By the time i get home from work my ears r starting to get sore from an edge or folding. I was able to deal with it for a 500 mile day but went to sleep sore. But not so sore that it bothered me in the morning. Handles ice (in March) better than expected. And bugs clean off very easily w turtle wax ceramic applied too 👍👍

    Hi.
    What did you think of the "nose protection" in the helmet? I do not have a big nose but the protection rubs against the nose, so hard that I removed it.
    Is there a bigger you can get?

    Any thoughts between this two helmets?
    Would this bell new technology, safety and wind flow would put down the arai Full face rx7?

    talking about headshape: are there more oval helmet than intermediate oval? mein head seems to be xxl and pretty oval, bell xxl helmets fit but the don't sit really close to my ears. making them pretty loud through airflow i guess.

    • @sereneturmoil
      @sereneturmoil 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also have a more long oval head shape and the Race Star DLX Flex absolutely did not fit me. I tried it in both a small and medium and beyond being a little tight front to back it was also incredibly claustrophobic inside. My nose and lips touched the front/breath shield/inner chin bar making it uncomfortable to wear. That said, it was incredibly light and, as stated in the video, the field of vision was amazing. The Transition shield, though, definitely didn't get dark enough; it was more of a light smoke than anything and sunglasses would be required on the sunnier/sunniest days.
      As far as helmets built specifically for oval head shapes, I'm looking at the Arai Signet-X as my new helmet for next riding season and an upgrade from my current Scorpion EXO-AT950 - which is an intermediate-oval shape but fits decently after the break-in period, though it is still more snug front to back than is ideal.

  • @peterk6908

    Brandon, that visor did not darken at all, it was a PROTINT for sure? I know it was a bit overcast but I would have expected to see some tint to be showing...is it really just that subtle an effect?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah... I used it on a sunny day too and it got darker but still not quite as dark as I would personally like. It is very gradual so it's tough to notice the transition but it does make a difference. Just wish it got a bit darker. -Brandon

    Like another poster, I really wish this helmet had detents. It gets really hot in south Texas and I love to ride at lower speeds with the face shield up just slightly to let more air in. My dream helmet would be what this helmet has, plus detents, plus some high vis color on it. All black helmets do not appeal to me at all!

  • @myztklk3v
    @myztklk3v 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I got mine today, I ordered a large which is supposed to be 59-60cm, my head is 58.5cm around and this helmet was way too snug, giving me pressure all over in the front and back and pushing my cheeks up way too much. quite disappointing as now I have to wait probably several weeks for a replacement and not even sure an XL will fit properly now.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Were you only getting pressure at the forehead and back of the head? That sounds like it may be more of an internal fitment issue and not a sizing issue. Your measurements fall within a Large (some people push for a MD with your measurement and plan for it to break in), however the pressure points you seem to be describing won't be fixed by changing sizes. Unfortunately if your head is more long oval than this lid just won't work for you. Feel free to contact our CS team and they can walk you through what you are feeling and recommend some alternatives based on it. Ride safe!

      @@RevZilla yep, went and tried an XL that a local shop had and it had too much room side to side as suspected. I also tried a Shoei RF1400, X-14 as well as an Arai and an HJC and literally nothing fits my dome correctly. I'll probably have to bite the bullet and go back to a cheaper Scorpion or try an Icon.

    Everyone says it's lightweight and feels great but I am just wondering...being 1500-1600gr doesn't it make it a heavy carbon helmet?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The weight is more in the middle of the spectrum now, but the reviews about it being lightweight are likely comparing it to the older Race Star version which was 6 ounces heavier. Now they are in the sweet-spot of the spectrum, and they weight is almost unnoticeable once you are moving.

  • @n.elliott9122
    @n.elliott9122 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I found that you need to throw that shield straight out in the direct sunlight on the hood or tailgate and let it go ahead and get that first full-blown transition. Bring it back inside and let it fully transition back. Then Cook that bad boy in one more time and she will be set. Then it will darken faster and darker from here on out.

    I only wear Bell helmets. California dude supporting a California company.
    BUT, I might be leaving them for my ADV helmet.
    Hey Bell, step it up. Make a carbon fiber ADV lid and some vents that can close. You would dominate the heavily growing market.

    How does this one handle fog

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The shields are all anti-fog coated, but if you are riding in cooler or wet conditions that may need some added reinforcements - Bell does offer the shield in a pinlock-ready version which you can then add a pinlock-insert too. That'll create a double pane window feature which eliminates fogging when needed.

    • @sereneturmoil
      @sereneturmoil 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I rode this helmet, very briefly, on my 2019 KTM 390 Duke and, despite being in a very upright riding position and no having the wind protection of a fared bike, the helmet was stable and reasonably quiet - would have been quieter if it fit properly/more snuggly to my ears for my long oval head shape.

  • @mateonavia
    @mateonavia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sizing still feels too small. I bought one a few months ago and initially it was tight which was expected, but even after breaking in it forms pressure points after about an hour of riding. I honestly can't wait to replace it. If it weren't for the small fit it would be a perfect helmet. By the way, the one sold by latin american bell distributors doesn't come with the transition lens, it comes with a pinlock instead.

    Bitch all you want about lack of tint but to make it tint more it would have to start out with a light tint to begin with which would defeat using it at night safely (NO TINTED SHIELD IS OPTICALLY CORRECT! Close, but no cigar). They will never make it darker. That's why they sell dark tint visors even though it comes stock with the photochromatic shield. They also sell clear and yellow for those that like the yellow tint for supposed sharper focus (Again, I don't get the attraction because they are not rated as optically correct.).
    I have an original 2008 Bell Star with the photochromatic/Transitions visor and it still tints the same as the new ones.
    Honestly, it's too much money for what it's worth. Bell hasn't even integrated the back spoiler into the helmet. Seams cause turbulence and that causes noise. Makes the helmet look kinda cheap, IMO.
    I'd rather spend $275 on a Qualifier flex DLX which comes with the Transitions face shield, the flex system, but also has a compartment for a specific comm system to fit flush. That's a best buy/bang for the buck to me.
    Size-wise Bell really hasn't changed the fit as much as they say. They're trying to sell a fucking expensive helmet people! I range at the bottom of large and in Bell I always buy the medium for proper fit. You can always buy the large cheek pads if it's too snug... Same shell size. SNUG=QUIETER.
    If your dead set on buying an expensive helmet, or any helmet for that matter, SHOP AROUND! Look on sites like motorcycle closeouts. Bell Star helmets are usually $200 cheaper when they're last year's model. I bought mine for $300 when they listed for over $600. I see a few on sale for $339 right now. Not $700. That's paying for carbon fiber and as I said, in a year you can buy it for around $500. The difference between normal composite and carbon fiber is about 5 ounces which, unless you're doing 10 hour days or have neck problems, isn't worth the expense to go carbon fiber. Check out that price difference. Be smart about what you buy. Also, when mail order, walk around in it all damn day if you can. The most expensive status symbol of a helmet is crap if it doesn't fit comfortably! Send it back and try another brand because fitment is an across the entire line kinda thing (Star fits same as Qualifier, etc...)
    Hope my rant helps some of the noobs that think expensive is always best.
    My logic is this though... I have one helmet for all riding. In this situation I think it's worth paying $700 if you're only putting it out once. I own the AGV SportModular. Barely over 3lbs, pinlock included, ECE rated which is just as good as Snell (get over yourself), and no need to buy open face for hot weather. Yep, $700+ helmet I got for $499. I had to go to Europe to shop and buy it, but they do have a Transitions pinlock insert which works just the same.

      I would recommend a Bell Qualifier DLX. 2020 models specifically. They no longer have the cut out for the old Sena unit in the side of the helmet and are quieter inside without that feature. Still not as quiet as I had hoped, so I wear earplugs with it. Also, it has a pro tint shield that transitions. As he said though, doesn't get quite dark enough for my liking in direct sunlight.
