- The 2018 Ford Mustang GT is a lot faster than the old one. The benchmarks we set for the 2016 model with a manual transmission were zero-to-60 mph in 4.7 seconds and the quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds.

The fastest way to launch the 10R80 is to hold the brake while bringing revs up to 1800-2200 rpms, then release the brake as you mash the accelerator.

People that say manual for life, isn't driving in a metropolitan city for work. Drive 1.5 hrs in LA rush hour and it will humble any manual enthusiast. I know because I said manual for life in high school ;)

I was also a manual for live guy. Infact I'm still racking my brain about if I made the right decision buying a 10R80 2 days ago! I'm absolutely in love with the new mustang. I must say though it is definitely going to take some getting accustomed to the auto. I never thought myself capable of buying an auto however the deal i found was just to good to pass up being a fully loaded digital dash GT!

@@carlosvelasco4119 I definitely don't mind driving manual in the city at all! The main reason I didn't buy the manual was because of the MT82's bad reputation for failure. To be honest I'm still not sure I made the right choice in the auto but it's a great automatic!

My 2012 can run 13 flat all day, and sometimes 12's (like really high 12's) on just a aftermarket exhaust and cold air intake. stock tires too.
I've seen stock 2012's and 2013's (basically before the new body style but after 2009) run highish mid 12s.
If the older mustangs could beat the 15-17 mustangs i'll be shocked.
I thought the 2011-2014s were faster than the 15-17 models. Most of the test data I saw the 11-14 GTs were the fastest in the 1/4. Though I saw some great 113 MPH trap speeds on the 15-17s

With a Steeda stop the hop kit, some 305's in the rear with some drag radials this thing will do lower 11's and even lower 0-60 times and that's STOCK. This new Mustang rocks!

And, there's no hop to stop in an automatic. And no need for super wide, heavy wheels and tires either. Just grippy tires and the knowledge of how to understand that Oem street rubber doesn't like heat and to only "warm" them up. In the real world, stock, sub 4.4 sec will be darn near impossible in a mustang until its awd or a hybrid.
He said he had NO wheelspin at all so how are grippier tires going to help? It's an automatic, floored is floored.
gtdrummerdude gtdrummerdude This drag strip is prepped and so that has way more grip than the street. So on a regular street surface it may or may not hold up like it did here. I think these were Michelin 4S tires, not even the sport cups on the level 2 pack that just came out. So pretty impressive on non R compounds even on a prepped surface.

I own a 2018... I am a "real buyer." I went with the manual. Maybe the 10-speed gets you there a little quicker but it's a muscle car. It's meant to be driven as a manual. I love this transmission and regret it not at all.

I ran a 12.48 @ 116.7 , PP1 10r80 mustang GT. With Michelins A/3+ All season tires.. Nice to see what a good set of summers will do.
It's a con. They were warmed up tyres. Other cars will do it in less on ordinary tyres.

Seems like the average quartermile times are around 11.8 , from the other 2018 Mustangs posting times. You can also use the Launch mode (u talked about but didn’t use) , hold the brake & give it the gas & go........
11.8 is not average that is the best anyone has done so far with a bone stock Gt.Most are running 11.9 to 12.0 depending on the track and d/a

DA was well below sealevel abd temps were under 40 F which is like adding 30 hp. At sealevel the new 5.0's with warmed tires are a 4.3 to 4 4 sec car 0-60 and 12.4@114-115 in the 1/4.. The car is to heavy and lacks torque to get to 60 under 4 sec stock and not enough hp over the 1/4 in under 12 sec stock. I've driven mire than my share of domestic iron down the 1320 in 30 yrs. I know Mustangs fondly. I did however manage to get a base 2014 5.0 auto on all seasons bang off a few 12.5's at 114 mph in 55 F air and a DA of 773 ft and calm wind. Everytime Ford adds weight they add a little power. Ford could lead the performance world domestically if they wanted.

Using the track app, my best so far with a 2020 GT 10 Speed Base (without PPKG) was 4.4. Great car and fantastic sounding stock exhaust :)
My 13 gt pulls under 4 seconds on the street, took to track was only 1/8 mile but i ran a 7.1 at 96 miles an hour, thats on 305 pilots BMR upper and lowers dana one piece aluminum driveline 3.73 ford racing gears and aftermarket intake with a race tune, btw pilots are not good for drag they are made for corner handling so drag radials are a must as i spin the 305 pilots first through third, my mustang would smoke this 2018. The fastest 0-60 ive ever got was 3.4 seconds on drag radials best i can get on pilots is a 4 second flat after several attempts.

I didn't Ethier but I just purchased a 10R80 2 days ago and I'm still trying to justify not buying the manual. I must say though if the GT came with the Tremec transmission I probably would have still gone manual.
Was this the 3.15 or 3.55 gears? And does it make a noticeable difference?
i have 3,15 differencial, its short shifter crazy shifts fast. better than3,55 i think manuals comes with 3,55s.

Fastest way I’ve launched my 2018 was to hold the brake build the rpms up to 3000 then launch I get 3.9 on a consistent basis

yard hostler T56 Tremec Magnum XL. I’m talking swapping a 15+ Mustang GT. From my understanding each TR6060 is application specific. Only the 2007-2014 GT500 got the TR6060 which is great if you have that car but not a good swap for 15+ GT I believe.

16 is way faster than 13.2,I dont know where you get your numbers its basically three to 4 tenths slower than an 18 or 19.All due to the 10r80 transmission.
Stock 15-17 is 12.90 with a low DA.. stock 18-20 is 12.00 with a low da. Not only do you have the 10 speed but you also have 25 more hp and 20ft lbs of torque too.
Nothing like a fully prepped track in negative DA 😂

Quickest I Got on my tuned 18 gt (manual) was 5 seconds to 60. Should be 4.5 if not lower with tune and intake and exhaust what gives
the new ten speed auto is crazy. It keeps the engine in its power band much better than the manual can.

You cannot give a 0-60 evaluation on a drag strip. Those times are given with the assumption that people are using their cars on normal roads. A 3.9 second time could easily turn into a 4.5 second time on a normal road...this is not sufficient evidence

Its a PP1 premium package with magna ride. The top of the line GT Other than the PP2. The PP2 only comes in manual.
My 18 ss does 4 secs flat it's the A8.
That would have been with that rollout bs. So over 4 and over 12.

Will it be able to do it on a street tho? No wheel spin on a RWD on a drag strip is possible with warm tires and sticky drag strips. My car does 3.9secs 0-60 on a street, spinning all 4 tires until 30mph or so. I have a video of it too.

Virakyuth Tha Lol, your car spun for like 1 second and then shifted. I wouldn't say it spun badly...your first gear is pretty short so there is a lot of available torque for a short time. Look at the 0-60 times people are getting with tuned 335s- sub-4 and those are 2WD.

My 2006 GT little 4.6 3v with a vortech vs3i setup 452 rwhp 78k miles does 11.2 @ 3990 feet above sea level with nitto 305's and 3.55 rear gears and its a 5 spd manual. 13 years later the stock edition gt is catching up.
Can't tell if you're being serious. Why would you compare a stock car to your heavily modified one? Can get 11.2 with bolt-on's with the new ones probably.
I own a 2012 GT 5.0 manual basically stock just CAI and exhaust with Lund tune and I run consistently 12.5-12.6 so I’m shocked the newer mustangs are not quicker
Well when you add 50hp from intake exhaust and tune your 412hp is now 462hp which is the same power as new one

That 10 speed is just a gimmick. SS camaro is just as fast with only an 8 speed. Most only use the first 5 or 6 gears so there are at least 2 wasted gears that are never used. Some people are breaking these transmissions too.

@@alecw7063 agreed. I average 27mpg in my 2020 when im out for a highway cruise. Can't complain about that at all. I'd be happy with 8 gears but 10 is what we got. A car that runs sub 12 in the quarter and with an excellent soundtrack for exhaust and and gets 27mpg highway......pretty damn good.

On paper. In the real world the 18 GT has something like 490 hp or a more efficient drivetrain. 430 whp stock is A LOT more than a 17 GT.
McBaron I’ve seen them make anywhere from 390-420. It all depends on the dyno, American muscle has like the highest reading dyno ever. I remember when the Camaro came out, they made 430+ rwhp on one dyno also, but in reality they’re making anywhere from 390-420 as well, same for torque. No doubt the 18 is a lot faster than the 15-17 though, but that 10 speed is making a huge difference.

Your not going to hit 60 in under 4.4 sec in any new 5.0 no matter the configuration, on the street. All these silky performance figures being thrown out by Dodge, Ford GM/Chevy, was all gathered on a highly prepped track in cold weather with way below sealevel DA which us like get 30-40 free hp and tq, which really doesn't count. And for both mustang and SS, magnetic ride is also required for any max 0-60 run.

The real bad news is that at Ford quality is job none! My 2021 Mustang GT premium was a big lemon. I could live with the cheap plastic interior and glitchy electronics but the clucky garbage 6 speed manual transmission was just garbage! I'm not the only one who thinks so, look at the class action that has been launched against Ford. Fortunately I was able to sell it and buy a real car from another manufacturer. It's no wonder Ford stopped building cars...I'll never buy another Ford...EVER!

Jesus H Medrano there are a few comparisons out there but they mostly suck. Autoweek or someone did one but it was auto vs manual.
Motortrend did 1le vs pp1 but that was obviously a bad one too as pp1 lined up with SS, 1le is in another class.
Somebody about to do pp2 vs 1le. It should be good. Thinking Camaro will win by small margin. If they start doing multiple laps Camaro may start pulling away. Ford did not put coolers on pp2 for some reason.

John Grytbakk I had a 14 and 15 mustang Gt Manual. I just got the 18 in the 10 speed and its unbelievably good. I don't miss the manual at all.
