The key thing Thomas said was the mustang is more fun so that’s why I bought one. I’ll openly admit the camaro is better on the track though. Why can’t all gear heads just get along and appreciate amazing cars though?
Depends who’s driving the car. My mustang GT frequently beats SS and 1le packages and I have a lot of experience on the track. Also they got the horsepower wrong on the mustang it’s should be 480 not 460.
the track speeds were interesting cuz the mustang definitely carried more speed through corners which is really impressive but the fact that the camaro was able to make up for that in the straights is also impressive
Really Really great review. One of the best I have seen. No BS just real experience with the carsm. Drag race was like anyone on the street would do. No lowered tire pressures, burn outs, etc
@bodarya OMG yeah and it’s pretty easy to make a mustang have 600hp too. They’re both good cars man, just pointing out that the 5.0’s displacement doesn’t hold it back
Zach it is easy to get 600hp with forced induction, otherwise you will not get 600hp at least from a 5.0 mustang which I own, I’m almost sure that it is the same story with the camaro.
Great video and editing guys! One tip. For windows down driving at speed, take at least one camera, and get an external mic, and stick the mic in the glove box. You'll get great engine noise, without any of the wind noise.
If any of you are watching this and are stuck on deciding between the camaro and the mustang like I was a few months ago, I'm not going to tell you what to choose, but the blind spots in the camaro really aren't that bad, yes the windows are smaller, yes the blind spots are there, but every car had blind spots, its just a little harder to see them in the camaro. However after a few days in the camaro it feels completely natural, you don't have to "struggle" for visibility, I've never had any close calls when changing lanes, the blind spot detection feature is accurate and trustable, the windows are all big enough to see out of and actually makes you feel like you're in a special sports car. So if you want the camaro performance but you were on edge because of visibility, well there ya go 🙂 can't go wrong with a stang either, but I'm glad I went with camaro

My dad has the 19 Mustang Gt Premium. I got to admit its fast but not as fast as the Camaro. The thing is the Mustang sounds more beastly or muscle like. Most Camaro SS I see their not that loud.
I had a 1999 Z28 6 speed Camaro in high school and a 1999 GT convertible 5 speed 3 years after. Traded the Camaro for a Silverado, but I miss it. Never had a problem with either. Camaro with the LS1 was MUCH faster than the GT but the GT was a sweet ride, fun to drive, steered a little better, and felt lighter. Wouldn’t complain about either one of them.

I've seen a gt350 vs a pp2 GT base model no extra options and the GT350 was around two to two and a half seconds faster around driven by the same guy. The 350r would have widened that gap even further. The Camaro is better out of the box because of Cadillac's racing program with the Ats-v. So GM has dumped millions in research into that chassis and dialed it in before the Camaro even used that chassis. Ford on the other hand doesn't take that same approach, they leave you in the hands of aftermarket companies such as maximum motorsports. The PP2 is for guys who just want a little more grip who might do one track day a year it's more suited for twisty roads. If you want to build a track monster you buy a base car and hop online to buy aftermarket parts. Which has always been the Mustang way. Ford gives you a canvas to build on while GM is more paint by numbers. Two different approaches but both amazing cars. If you don't want to dive into modding and building a car the Camaro is a better car, if you want to build a car the Mustang is a better car. The aftermarket support reflects that as well the only vehicle you can buy that rivals the Mustangs aftermarket support is the jeep wrangler. Personally I'd like to mix both cars together. Give me that ats-v chassis with the coyote engine and the Camaro's trans with the looks of a Mopar and the interior of a 911 and it'd be my ideal car.
The 2019 GT350 will eat both of them easily due to the improvements made for that model year. On VIR a 2016 gt350 was faster than the 1le by 4 seconds both on stock tires
Josh Taylor also both vehicles are extremely heavy , the zl1 weight close to 4.000 lbs , thats 1100 lbs heavier than a Porsche cayman gt4 and 400 lbs heavier than a 4 door sedan 2018 bmw M3 . Definitely not authentic race vehicles . Extremely heavy
Great vid and two great cars. A privilege to own either, I'm sure - but I prefer the overall aesthetics of the Mustang and the comparatively panoramic view out of the sides and rear. The lap times are cool to know, but the fact that the Mustang felt more fun to drive (and the reasons why) was of greater informational importance to me.
I have test driven the base GT and SS both in the last two weeks and hands down for me the driving experience in the Mustang has been much more to my liking. Also the visibility in the mustang is like 500% better. The front end of the 2019 SS (not the 2018 in this video) is a mistake over the 18. I'm leaning more to the Mustang but I will try them both again before I make my decision before buying.
Interesting results but FYI the PP2 Mustang beat the SS 1LE by 1 second in car and driver’s lightning lap results at VIR. The Shelby GT350R Beat the PP2 Mustang by two seconds at VIR...
That could come down to driver and track too. TH said the Mustang feels more planted whereas the Camaro gets more upset by bumps. C&D aren't professionals by any means, so the Mustang being more comfortable to push harder could explain those LL times.
That was different days and drivers, drivers matter quite a bit. Motor trend had Randy Pobst drive both, albeit on different days, and the 1le was faster.
@@ssoffshore5111 they didn't, they had the oem's. Same as when the motortrend ran them and the 1le won. Same tires helped for sure since the psc2's are the best but the Camaro would have done fine with the stock oem's and would have most likely won still. The problem here was that the Camaro they used didn't have oem Goodyear's to begin with. In the episode where they did the road comparison it was wearing ps4's which are not as good as the psc2's or the Camaros oem Goodyear supercar 3's.

Great video! The noise these cars make is breathtaking! Love it! - Personally going off looks alone, it has to be the Mustang; but I can't deny how good that Camaro is. You could see that he could get the power down much earlier in the corners
YES! Totally support having the cars on the same tires. Anyone who actually tracks their car will have track tires for that purpose, and it's never made much sense to me to compare car performance with car A on one tire, and car B on another that sometimes isn't even in the same class of tire. I wish more auto journalist would do this!
Sounds like you haven't been to many track days. Plenty of people track new cars on the OEM tires. Matter of fact in the case of the SS 1LE, ZL1 and Z1LE the OEM tires are very good and really only bettered by a true R comp tire. By the way when was the last time you bought a new car and changed the OEM tires for aftermarket to run a track day? Have you priced out tires for 20"x10" and 20"x12" wheels recently? Probably not.
@@FL50ssp Well, people who just do open track days or are just starting, sure, but most anyone who really is pushing the cars to where these type of performance tests are actually relevant, or people who are doing track days on a regular basis, will have track tires. And yeah, the Pilot Cup 2s are a track tire, and some cars do come with those, but a PS4S isn't, and I'm just saying if one of these was on a PS4S and one on Cup 2s, that wouldn't be fair.
The nls feature is awesome and sounds great, but it pulls so much timing in order to achieve that feature that it is actually faster to shift normally (as long as you are a fast shifter). I have tested this on mine and had faster times every time
Having driven them back-to-back, the Mustang is a fast car that you can comfortably daily drive with its spacious interior and excellent dampening, whereas the Camaro feels like more of a weekend car with its stiff suspension setup and tight quarters. Given this result, I'm not surprised by the 1 second improvement with the Camaro due to the sacrifices that where made compared to the Mustang. In essence, it comes down to what you'll be using the car for. Both are splendid in their own respects.
As a 7 time Mustang owner, one test drive in the Camaro 1LE convinced me that it’s the better car. Hands down, in every performance metric and seat of the pants fun, you cannot go faster, easier, for so little money. I drove mine bone stock at Laguna and I can attest that this car needs nothing. I drove my friend’s GT350 hard and it’s still not as good a car. Sorry Ford, just being real here. The 1LE reigns supreme!
I have a 16 2SS Camaro with magnetic ride but I used to work at a ford dealership and constantly got to drive the new GT mustangs and I gotta say..I prefer the Camaro but man are the mustangs fun to drive

Nice. What's crazy is I love everything about the Camaro more than the Mustang; namely the engine due to torque, simplicity and reliability, the 6 speed Tremec trans due to durability, the interior, the entire chassis balance and handling. The Camaro IS the better car top to bottom. And still, I'd HAVE to buy the mustang because I'd be doing 95% street driving, and the 2015-2019 Mustang is one of the single best looking cars ever made for any price (to my eyes) and the Camaro is just "ok" looking.
The Camaro is also great for street driving. The only advantage of the Mustang: better looks and better exhaust. All the other advantages in performance go to the Camaro
Just an FYI if you are running full assists off in track mode, you could have overriden the suspension from track to sport to slightly soften it up if it felt too harsh on the track. Under vehicle settings in the infotainment screen.

how do you like it? looking to sell my 370z for one
@Vinny Booboo Imo, the Mustang looks more sexy and sleek, while the Camaro looks more mean and aggressive. I feel like for daily driving the Mustang is a better car, but on-track performance, the 1le is better. Both are great cars though.
If you're considering a 6th gen ss 1le dont think twice. My 19 is a amazing all around car. I love it even more then the 2012 m3 I had
I have a 2018 Mustang GT and really really enjoy it. But can't stop thinking about the camaro too. It's nice as well. I feel both are good muscle cars. Comes down to preference.
Great car but better weekend car than daily driver. IMO

I'd wager quite a bit, because you are not having to lose acceleration while shifting gears. I know some people can change gears fast and without losing acceleration. But for the average person that no lift shift feature will make you feel like a track star.

NeutralGenericUser that would be great
Or...just dont be lazy and look up the prices on these 2 cars yourself. There is such a thing called Google. And it will easily bring you to these things called websites. Specifically Ford's website and Chevrolet. In the time it took for you to read my comment...you could have looked up the price on at least one of these cars.
Nobody should hold your hand as you walk thru life...😉😜🤣
@@_E_B_ These cars are equipped differently with different options. You can't "Google" the price of these specific cars dumbass.
@@TeflonNapkins Based on what I see in the video... GT Premium Fastback with Orange Fury paint, Performance Pack Level 2, and Active Valve Performance Exhaust: $59,775 CDN. Camaro 1SS with 1LE Package, Performance Data Recorder, 1LE Hash Mark Decal: $56,180CDN. But, the pricing can be very misleading unless you go into a lot of detail about what is actually included in that price, in order to do an apples to apples comparison. However, from my experience, most people just see the numbers and ignore all the details anyway. So, I question the value of including the price in the video. Forget about Top Gear, this is my favorite car channel. That track is such a fun place to bring these classic rivals. Great job guys!
I would have expected the opposite to be true, that the camaro would carry more speed through the corners.
Sorry your right. Camaro

Finally! A fair comparison. Couldn’t find any vids like this on youtube.
i'd buy the camaro for the simple fact that it looks more aggressive
khyoon14 you sound like a woman... as long as it comes in pink too eh
@bodarya OMG yeah and the 6.2 has 455hp not 460hp like the 5.0
@bodarya OMG yeah and it’s pretty easy to make a mustang have 600hp too. They’re both good cars man, just pointing out that the 5.0’s displacement doesn’t hold it back
I'm deciding between the two and the Camaro is an ugly car that you cant see out of. Dont care if it's faster than the Mustang

So what you are telling me is all of these media rags and youtube stars are wrong? How can this be, I'm confused... can't think for myself. Quick someone, please tell me what to think/do. You must be mistaken here because the mob can't be wrong, right? LOL I own a 2019 SS 1LE and you are correct about the overblown visibility BS. As for everything else you are again correct. It's unfortunate that the world we live in is full of people that just latch on to whatever the popular spin of the week is. And can't be bothered to do the research for themselves. Glad you are enjoying your Camaro, great choice and car.

Great Video as always. Any chance we could see the PP2 mustang vs the GT350? Genuinely curious how close the two cars actually are.
Please include also the SS1LE VS the Shelby GT350

Love this channel. Great comparison. I’m a Mustang junkie, I’m still taking the original Pony!
I don’t know what it is but I can’t stop myself from watching throttle house review and race mustangs
Did they both have the same tires on them like they did here. This to me is more apples to apples.
But in Laguna Seca is the other way around. Professional driver Randy Pobst from MT has better lap times in the Camaro.
Now we need an updated comparison: newest GT350, m2 competition, SS1LE. super torn between these three! also: M5 competition vs 992 4S.
Gt350 is quite a bit more money wise and HP wise, a little unfair for the Camaro. Crazy how capable that 1LE is to even be compared to the GT350, Chevy did a solid job
@@ender2664 right I know lol I saw that, I'm for the 1LE I was just saying how it's crazy how it's in the same playing field, esp on how expensive the 350 is.. and it has more power and the 1LE still hangs
link nelson more money and HP but similar performance .... GT350 has a little more “special limited edition engine” feel and more unique (better?) sound, but is the extra $20k worth it? I saw an SS1LE for $38k USD the other day... what a bargain. hard pressed to find a GT350 for under $60k especially with markups.
timothy clancy I saw that ... it’s a great car! I actually had an SS 1LE once and loved it. got rid of it for some odd reason but would def get another.
timothy clancy GT350 is easier to live with on the road, I’m sure. The ZL1 1LE is an animal and even the basic ZL1 is also a consideration. The ZL1 (+/- 1LE) is a heavier front car and although it is way more capable, is that worth it? I don’t race for pink slips and the SS1LE certainly isn’t slow, already has great seats, suspension, exhaust, tires, PDR, brakes ...... not sure if all that extra is necessary for a fun/dramatic ride at $30k more? At $80k I start looking at things like 718 GTS, M2 Comp, base 992 (sure they’re more, but that’s how the game works ... slowly looking at more expensive cars until you’re in a Mclaren Senna

Camaro looks better, mustang needs a face lift
I would love to see a track test between the shelby mustang gt500 carbon fibre track pack and camaro zl1 le.

The nls feature is awesome and sounds great, but it pulls so much timing in order to achieve that feature that it is actually faster to shift normally (as long as you are a fast shifter). I have tested this on mine and had faster times every time
I vote Camaro without even watching🙃😀
Just LOVE that Camaro!!!
