Something you said stopped me completely - "All I want to do is learn new stuff". IF we had more people with that type of desire in life everything would be better. So many people would know how to do more things and then they teach others and off we go. KEEP that attitude sir.
The other side of the coin: I had a girl at work who were junior staff but thought that as soon as she learned to do something she should get to do other things and the senior staff should do the stuff she didn’t want to do any longer.
Keep a spare 5 gallon bucket around for the excess concrete. Fill it up eventually, and even drop a big eye bolt in it. Then you can use them as weights for canopies or other things you're worried about blowing away
One father to a future father: get your wife and future child some pool deck stairs to make things easier for them. It will help her climb in the coming month, and it will be easier to use the pool next summer with the new +1.
You guys are so adorable! I'm a new subscriber. I started watching on the first pool build video. I have now gone back and watched many, many other videos. Molly, you got a good one sweetie! I can't wait to see y'all be parents!!!!!!
You two are awesome, as a middle aged man I feel there is not enough young people like yourselves just giving things a go. Keep up the excellent work, and good luck from Western Australia. ,🤠🤠
Hello guys!!! New subscriber here. I've been watching many of the homestead videos for the past year or so. Found yours tonight and am totally into the ways you think and do things!!! Your Dad seems like a great father and works well with you. Molly, you are always supportive and a great person ❤️. Best wishes for your upcoming birth.
Not bad for a first timer. The key to finishing a slab is place it, level it, then edge the float the surface , re edge, finish float and broom it. A broom finish gives you traction around wet areas. All in all you did a great job. Oh yes removing the forms as you did is absolutely correct.
“I am always doing that which I cannot do in order that I may learn how to do it.” Pablo Picasso This is something you and I share. Learning is living!!!
Hi from Manchester England. Dylan stop beating yourself up and trying to see perfection in all that you do, your doing a great job. Most people only see imperfections if you point them out they don't usualy go around loking for them. Pouring concrete is not easy, I know because I have a friend who does it for a living, pouring vast amounts for shop floors and car parks. Also the wetter it is the better. It will tend to level itself out and will still set but it will set stronger than if it was dry because it takes longer and stresses less. Great work you guys. love the vids, keep them comming.
I am so glad that I found your channel. You two are the perfect couple for putting these videos out there to the viewers. You are a natural. The work I have seen you do; I would pay you to do it for me. You're an amateur bordering on professional. 👍👍
you both make a lovely couple and will be great parents love the way you will try to do anything credit to young people and hopefully an inspiration sending love from Northern Ireland ❤
I love watching you guys because you take the initiative to learn on your own. That's a good thing being a homeowner. My dad didn't have TH-cam, but he bought books and studied and put it to the test. He did it all and ended up being a handyman beside going to his regular job. The projects he did are still standing there today after 60+ years.
Looks great!! If the concrete gets a little dry when you're finishing just wet your tools a bit and it will smooth it out. Keep up the great work kids!!! Have a great day!!
I'm always excited to see your latest construction projects. The quality of your work and the professionalism you bring to each video are outstanding. Your videos are a fantastic resource for anyone interested in learning more about construction.
You should expect imperfections when you are learning something new. It looks to me like you have done a very good job for your first time learning experience. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride?
I love listening to you guys! Your channel is informative and uplifting. Keep learning and growing TOGETHER! Rooting for your continued success in DIY projects, life and love! 💜🙏🏾
I think you both did an awesome job for your first effort in concrete. Your forms were bang on and all the tools you bought helped clean up perfectly. It’s hard to determine the timing on video because of editing, but you pulled the firms perfectly well. Good job. 👍🇨🇦
My husband brought home a bag of concrete 10 years ago for me to Play around with and now I’m addicted, but my backyard looks amazing and gets more beautiful every year!
Love seeing you two do projects. No muss. No fuss. Just real home projects. Sometimes that's all you need to get motivated to take on a new task -- just seeing someone else tackle it. I'm really impressed with the two of you because you seem so young and you're just learning and getting after it. SO good!!! Looks great by the way. I'd give you a solid A.
I LOVE, "Late Night TH-cam University" & "My mission in life is to learn all sorts of new stuff; a life long learner"... ME TOO 😁 Awesome job you two... Your place looks great.
I enjoy watching your videos. You're definitely someone after my own heart. I'm a woman in my sixties and I still like learning new skills and fixing my own stuff. My grandfather was a blacksmith/welder and taught all of us how to fix things instead of throwing things out and getting new. I've saved a ton of money over the years and gotten a lot of self satisfaction. Good on you for all that you've done. It looks great!
I firmly believe Molly is going to have that baby while working on one of your projects and then go right back to work :) It turned out great as always!
Just a thought, you might should have put a piece of rebar in the edging to keep it from cracking with ground movement, 3/8" for easier bending, also could have added the fiberglass fibers to the mix to help out also. To keep your fancy new tools look new, try paste wax on em after you are done.
For future projects forming concrete, those plastic deck boards are pretty flexible and work really good to form up curves. I'm not sure they'll do quite as tight of a curve as what you have there but definitely close. The place is looking great, keep up the good work
Great project. Continue your quest for knowledge, it will never fail you. Because you’re next to a wet area you might have considered a brush finish on the walkway to prevent slipping. Also, I am using and enjoying the IFixit kit I won. Thank you again and continue the great content.
I absolutely love how you've taken your knowledge and just went for it. And what a beautiful space you've created! The canopy was a great idea too! You're really inspiring!
WOW - that looks AWESOME! You guys really nailed it! Such a great idea for such little investment. Looks expensive & will stand the test of time. Nice work!
Great set up , I would have started with pool level full length planter boxes in the house & fence sections behind the pool so you could chill out under palms etc ..but luv what you guys are doing 💪
Looking great guys!!!! Would definitely like to know the due date for the little bun. But completely understand if that’s to private! Love you guys. Always praying for y’all!
The pool area is really taking shape and looking good. I'm looking forward to seeing the two of you holding the little one. You guys are going to be some great parents.
I guesses 5 bags. Then I heard your guesses and thought I was so off with my guess. But turns out I was almost right 😅🎉 Watched the first pool video from you and since then I'm hooked. You're both so relaxed and curious and inquisitive. And your skills and projects are so fun to watch. ❤ Ps: I would like to see how the mowing project is going on 😊 Ps2: Congrats and all the best for your expanding family ❤
I just recently got to know your channel. You guys truly are inspiring. I am gonna build something similar to your above ground pool next summer. Thanks for the inspiration
Never heard that saying before "Buy once, cry once" that's a new one for me.......Our gang of ground workers have a saying, if it looks right it is right, That would apply to the work you were doing. Liking the video so far, back to watching. All the best.
Another great video, you kids are rocking it. Learning a new skill/trade is very valuable. Eventually upgrade in tools when/if decide to pursue, but decent quality are great for couple uses. Keep up the great work, and enjoying the videos.
We live in Australia and we have gravel all around our pool and it's been there for 18 years now 😊and be careful when you get out of the pool and onto the concrete slabs that u don't slip! With no texture on em 😊
You might wanna get a yellow grout sponge from home depot or lowe's. It comes in handy for smoothing concrete and stucco. Your work is pretty good though. I did ceramic tile and marble for years. You should do some Mexican Saltilo tile work in the future. You'd probably be good at it. Maybe kitchen floor or outdoor walkway, patio. It's beautiful tile.
Buy all the tools! Tools are what elevates us from the rest of the animals on this planet. Life is frustrating enough as it is, so why add to that doing things the hard way. Buy that tool you might only use once in a lifetime, but is the perfect tool for the job. You will stay happier for longer.
From personal experience, I would recommend putting a small piece of re-bar in the curbing. This will help with both settling as well as with tree roots. Cracking is inevitable, but the re-bar keeps everything together with shifting.
You guys are awesome! Can’t wait each week for your next project and video. Keep up the great work and Dylan or Mr Perfection, I feel your pain going from custom furniture work to framing and concrete forms! God bless both of you. ❤
You can buy that stuff that goes between the pavers that make the rocks stay in place. I saw a video on TH-cam a woman did hers. Don’t know what the name is but it’s like a glue the rocks still look loose but are actually stuck together & wont let rocks kick up, it holds them down
Excellent job , inspires me to take chances myself. Only things that I would question are : 1.) why no rebar ( or something to lock the concrete together ) ? & 2.) why didn't you hammer your forms ( to remove any air pockets ) ? Keep up the good work.
I give you lots of credit for doing it,the concrete edge turned out great! You don't know if you can do something if you don't try again great job. Coming from Chicago IL
For larger areas like the pavers, rebar is probably smart. Also, once you've done a first pass on it, use a recip saw with no blade on the outside of the form to vibrate it and get alot of those air bubbles out.
You can, now, add "concrete pros" to your skills list! Wowser, everything turned-out so nice! Love the new pool area with concrete curbing and walkway! Great job, Dylan and Molly. P.S. You are looking healthy and fit, Molly! 👏👏❤😍🥰✨
You should buy one of those large industrial mist fans were you can put water. Just haul it over the workplace whenever you need it and you'll have no problem with too much heat and sweat.
Occidental is the real deal!! Framed houses with mine in snow, rain , and summer for years! On those long days the suspenders really help carry the weight for when your loaded down or at least get the hip pads. One of my favorite things about occidental is the ability to get other additional pouches which a leather worker can pin them to the belt. Also get some leather treatment or some beeswax and rub it in during those times your not using em! 👍🏻
Something you said stopped me completely - "All I want to do is learn new stuff". IF we had more people with that type of desire in life everything would be better. So many people would know how to do more things and then they teach others and off we go. KEEP that attitude sir.
Amen🙌🏻
Thats one of the reasons I love the channel so much, I have that same attitude towards things
Amen 🙏 I second that
The other side of the coin: I had a girl at work who were junior staff but thought that as soon as she learned to do something she should get to do other things and the senior staff should do the stuff she didn’t want to do any longer.
if we had more people who said i just wanna help animals, or other people... or both.(and meant it). then the planet would be different.
Loves your vids, no bragging, no screamin voices, just calm and low , and the attitude I'm learning :-) loves it
Keep a spare 5 gallon bucket around for the excess concrete. Fill it up eventually, and even drop a big eye bolt in it. Then you can use them as weights for canopies or other things you're worried about blowing away
I see tons of those in trailer parks
One father to a future father: get your wife and future child some pool deck stairs to make things easier for them. It will help her climb in the coming month, and it will be easier to use the pool next summer with the new +1.
Sometimes "finished is better than perfect"
Yea sometimes🤣

Keep up the excellent work, and good luck from Western Australia. ,🤠🤠
This backyard is really starting to take shape! Just keeps getting better and better!
Just need some final touches and it’ll be 🔥🔥 Glad you like it!!

You two are just too cute for words. If it paid more, I'd be a lifelong student. Love your attitude toward life. Keep being awesome!

I love your channel BTW I am from the UK and one thing I learnt a long time ago was never to sell yourself short you did a great job.
Thank you!

What an awesome husband, and he has the best attitude!! Great job guys! ❤❤
I love listening to you guys! Your channel is informative and uplifting. Keep learning and growing TOGETHER! Rooting for your continued success in DIY projects, life and love! 💜🙏🏾
I think you did AMAZING on the concrete curb.... I wish I had a person that could do that at my house!
I think you both did an awesome job for your first effort in concrete. Your forms were bang on and all the tools you bought helped clean up perfectly. It’s hard to determine the timing on video because of editing, but you pulled the firms perfectly well. Good job. 👍🇨🇦

I’m trying to talk my husband into letting me get a chopsaw… its not going well! Send tips😂😂
@@ReccaPatel ask him for a jigsaw first, then a miter saw and then a chop saw, slowly learning with smaller tools and working your way up!
Molly your hubby is so Darling you both are precious to watch. ❤
You have been watching too many Victory videos, but Ryan is a good teacher
Love seeing you two do projects. No muss. No fuss. Just real home projects. Sometimes that's all you need to get motivated to take on a new task -- just seeing someone else tackle it. Your husband is amazing, such a hard worker. You will have an amazing backyard when it is complete.
I enjoy watching your videos. You're definitely someone after my own heart. I'm a woman in my sixties and I still like learning new skills and fixing my own stuff. Great point!
For curves like these, drawing a circle and aligning the form with whatever partial you want to use.
You two are awesome 😎
Why are we doing just because I want to learn ❤❤💪🏾

Wish we did that, but it’s really not too terribly slick! And so glad to hear that!🤗
I absolutely love how you've taken your knowledge and just went for it. And what a beautiful space you've created! The canopy was a great idea too! You're really inspiring!
WOW - that looks AWESOME! You guys really nailed it! Such a great idea for such little investment. Looks expensive & will stand the test of time. Nice work!
Pull the shadow over your pool. Love your videos and channel. Russell - An Australian, living in Moscow, Russia.
Oh that canopy pretty much stays over the pool now🤣
When you guys started building that fence around the pool, I thought you were building a deck around it to hide the blue plastic. Nice fence.
Great set up , I would have started with pool level full length planter boxes in the house & fence sections behind the pool so you could chill out under palms etc ..but luv what you guys are doing 💪
Watching these videos makes me hope my daughter marries a country boy. You two are so cute!
Very very impressive ❤
Learning new things everyday is part of the food for our souls and brains. Keep going guys!
Looking great guys!!!! Would definitely like to know the due date for the little bun. But completely understand if that’s to private! Love you guys. Always praying for y’all!
This Occidental resident is glad to see Occidental Leather toolbelts getting some love!
Looks great! Because you are close to the pool and the cement will get wet, I suggest leaving the top of the cement a bit rough to prevent slipping.
The pool area is really taking shape and looking good. I'm looking forward to seeing the two of you holding the little one. You guys are going to be some great parents.
Amazing job 👏 🙌
You put the right amount of thought into the process before starting and it shows. I see more concrete projects coming up..
I guesses 5 bags. Then I heard your guesses and thought I was so off with my guess. But turns out I was almost right 😅🎉
Watched the first pool video from you and since then I'm hooked. You're both so relaxed and curious and inquisitive. And your skills and projects are so fun to watch. ❤

Ahhh good guess! Have not even started on clearing the rest of the property yet, but plan on it somewhat soon! And thank you!

Good job young man 😊
I think you did a phenomenal job. Love your attitude. Keep up the good work ❤
I've helped make a sidewalk and there was a curve in it ,we just soaked the wood forms in water to help with the curve, works really well.
You might wanna get a yellow grout sponge from home depot or lowe's. It comes in handy for smoothing concrete and stucco. Your work is pretty good though. I did ceramic tile and marble for years. You will find that that canopy will be nice over the pool when weather is really hot
Buy once cry once love that.
Your back yard is looking awesome Molly and Dylan. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much! It’s getting there!
Beautiful job, guys. 😊
I just found your channel a few weeks ago and subscribed!! Y’all are too cute!! I love your can do attitude!!🥰
Thank you so much and welcome!

Love to hear it!! Mr perfection is his new nickname🤣
Great work!!! Thank you for making content that is quality and provides actual value to the platform
You guys do good work
Would have loved to know how you went from green to clean, would have been so useful!
I always say, you learn from your mistakes. So far, you are doing pretty good! Happy life😊
Always!
That looks great

The curve looks good!
Looks great.
That’s a great attitude kid, keep learning. You two are a great team and put out really good content.
Appreciate it!!
You should buy one of those large industrial mist fans were you can put water. Just haul it over the workplace whenever you need it and you'll have no problem with too much heat and sweat.
