🏝 INGROUND STOCK TANK POOL!

  • Our inground stock tank pool was born out of a need to have a place to quickly cool off and not be an eye sore. It’s simple to maintain and so refreshing!
    We decided on a plastic stock tank for a number of reasons. It already had a drain plug hole that was easy to waterproof as an outlet to the pump. Bring fully underground made it more susceptible to rust if it were galvanized and since it was getting buried I wasn’t worried about not having that classic stock tank look you get from the metal ones.

    Great job! Enjoyed the editing as well. We bought the 300 gallon rubbermaid stock tank from tractor supply right at the time when everyone was buying up all the pools. Found a small 300 gallon pool pump and it barely moved water. Removed the filter, removed the filter paper, cut out half of the plastic in the filter and wrapped it with reusable filter material. Works great now.
    I used a 90° jet at the outlet side so water circulates around the pool and when not usung it, I put a pool cleaning net suspended in front of the jet and it automatically collects most floating debris as the water circulates. Nothing fancy but very enjoyable just the same.

    I bought the same exact blue plastic stock tank from a feed store before the pandemic, ( none available now ) hired my neighbor to deliver it, it's 8' across and 2' high and was told it holds 700 gallons of water. It's made by Behlen. The hardest part was getting it level, it's only half in the ground. I keep Koi in it and they are growing like weeds and actually survived the New England winter with just an air bubbler. What you did with yours is over the top. Great video !

    • @circlethewagons
      @circlethewagons ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@barbarapettry6817 I’am not exactly sure what or how it happened. And it seems unbelievable to me, considering some days were -13°. I think the air compressor kept them alive, although ice did form just not around the hole the bubbler kept open. Just this summer they have tripled in size. Next winter I plan on putting a stock tank heater in it to hopefully keep any ice from forming, and making life a little easier for them. I never saw them all winter until the ice melted in the spring.

    I have had a blue stock tank pool for years. We had a hillside that we terraced for gardens, and set the tank in the lower level. We initially used it as a swimming pool for our black cocker spaniel, who got very hot in the summer and often swam in the pool. Later I used it as a fish pond. Recently I have 2 grandsons and we converted it back to a pool for them.

    My husband did something similar. We bought a round 4' deep 16ft diameter above ground and put it in the ground. We rented a small back hoe to dig out the hole. We bought a regular pool pump and filter used for in ground pools, not the crappy ones that come with above ground pools. Like in this video made it all very nice. Spent a total of about 5k on everything. Kids swam in it for about 4 years until they lost interest. When we took it out, was interesting to see that non of the metal supports had even rusted at all. Most people had no idea it was an above ground pool put in ground. We put it in ourselves with the help of husband's bro and 2 hired teens. 4 years later we took it out ourselves filled in the hole with a truck load of purchased dirt and viola, looks like it was never there!

    We are doing something similar with a 9’x29” plastic stock tank. It should have uv inhibitors and last a really long time. Ours is already many years old (we got it free from a neighbor) and shows no signs of wear. Ours is built into a sloped yard so half the work.
    A cover (wood frame around foam) should do wonders for keeping it cleaner and the desired temp.
    I also added a couple other suggestions below, but great job nonetheless.

    Wow! I like this idea a lot! We had a catastrophic sign from God that we weren’t supposed to have an above ground, after a tree branch from one of our pines fell straight down the middle of it, this past winter. We did fix it temporarily for Summer; however, the effort and work involved to repeatedly put a band-aid over the damaged areas.. let’s just say, it wasn’t a permanent fix. With little to no affordable option, for a replacement that doesn’t involve selling one of your kidneys for shipping, we’ve been looking to do something like this, as well. I, myself, prefer to “Do It Myself”, as opposed to paying someone to come out and do the same thing. This certainly appears to be something I could do, as I enjoy jumping in there and getting my hands dirty.
    Thanks for the inspiration and spark to get this project kicked off!

      Have you looked into that natural swim pond guy from England? The plants in those ponds are not only beautiful, but they reclaim the water. They use bubblers too. The shade in your yard might also help it not get so hot. Looks so relaxing. Another route for swimmers like myself might be the small continuous current pools. But the equipment for those seem kind of pricey.

    • @ThatHondaGuy2
      @ThatHondaGuy2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KKIcons Oh ok.. thanks! I’ll have to check out some of his videos, then. We tend to lean more towards natural ways, to spruce up our landscape, especially in areas where we enjoy family and entertain guests. Despite all my positive efforts, I seem to be fighting a losing battle with 10 gigantanormous pines, towards the back of our property. Yes, they provide optimal shade and an abundant supply of burnable wood; however, that comes at a cost. Their roots run deep and the pine needles are many. No growth from anything substantial.
      As for buying/creating a steady current within a pool.. you’re right, it can be quite pricey. I’ve always thought it would be neat to just have a “lazy river”, tbh.🤔 I think I’ll keep on dreamin’..

    You’re much more committed to rehandling that dirt than I. I’m a bit OCD about efficiency and instead of moving it all back and sifting through it, I would’ve put landscape fabric down and a pea gravel with stepping stones throughout and a creeping plant like chamomile to keep weeds from popping up. Love it! Great job, “and as always, enjoy!)…

    Looks so good! We have a poly stock tank of this same model. I wanted to go in ground with it, but now I'm glad we didn't because it gets so much dirt in it just from the wind blowing. It's really hard to get the dirt out. I use a broom to sweep it into the filter pump intake. We have a vacuum and I use a tea towel inside the vacuum bag for better collection, but the dirt is so fine that it seeps right through. Either way, I love our stock tank pool so much, and it has been the best investment without the astronomical cost of electricity and chemicals that it takes to maintain a standard sized pool.

      I have the same problem with the sand! I found if you use a knee high stocking in the vacuum it catches all that fine sand. I just slip it in the catch bag and and flip it over the hole and attach it back. I just got one of the cheap vacuums that the water hose attaches to, works great.

That small of a pool would make a mighty fine crawfish boil pot 🤣🤣🤣 Water would be at a rolling boil by noon 👍

      96-100 degrees over the last 3 weeks and it’s stayed pretty cool actually. The pool only gets about 5 hours of sun. So no 🦞 boil. Lol

    NICK! NICK! NICK! YOU ARE THE MAN!! Not sure how I stumbled across this video, but it's a good thing I did. What an exceptional production - both the video and the pool/patio area. I didn't see ANYONE helping you either - other than ole girl loading bags of sand on the wheelbarrow. Hell, but the time the video was over, I was exhausted just from watching you work so hard! I guess that's how you keep those abs so tight, huh? What a sweetheart you are, and you're easy on the eyes! Like you, I don't mind working in the yard because it's good exercise - PLUS, it allows some time to bond with nature. Keep up the good work, young man! I look forward to seeing more of your work, so I have liked and subscribed. THANKS! YOU ROCK!!!
