      Define "normal"...

    • @karlwheatley1244
      @karlwheatley1244 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Friso de Jong below is correct--the whole cholesterol debate has been plagued by an absence of any rational definition of "normal" or "healthy" cholesterol. If you google the topic, websites at even top hospitals will tell you that an LDL of 100 or even 115 or 130 is healthy, normal, or even "optimal" for the 100 number. The best researchers at those hospitals know full well that this is nonsense: As even Mr. Paleo Loren Cordain and his colleagues pointed out in a paper, a healthy LDL is 50-70--our LDL falls in that range or even lower at birth, that's roughly the range for similar primates and mammals who don't develop heart disease or have heart attacks. Furthermore, if you achieved and LDL of 60 with a whole food plant based diet, and keep your LDL there, you don't develop heart disease and are virtually heart-attack proof.
      When you dig into all those bloggers and even misinformed doctors claiming that people can have heart attacks with a healthy LDL level, they're simply following the herd and labeling an LDL of 95 or 120 as normal or healthy, when in fact that is a sharply elevated LDL level that puts that individual at risk. In fact, that LDL level may be DOUBLE what that person's LDL level was in infancy. Our diets are totally out of whack, and thus, our definitions are totally our of whack.

I'm committed to this lifestyle because i don't want to die. I'm only 26 and if leaving meat alone is the only way to reverse the damage I've done to my body then, thats what ill do to prolong my life.

      That is why we started our plant based journey. When my husband had an Afib episode we were scared and started to look around to learn more about what we could do to help him. We thought that previously we had been healthy. We exercised, ate vegetables and fruit and only ate the 'good animal products' - or so we thought. We watched Game Changers, went vegan, and later whole food plant based and never looked back. The heart issues disappeared as well as other things like high cholesterol and allergies. Win all the way around.

    Hey! Love the channel. I had a question and was wondering if you did much research into the topic. I lift weights 5-6 times a week and eat around 2500-3000 kcal at about a 70-15-15% split. This amount of protein is around 90-110g depending on the day, but it is all plant-based. Any chance this is harmful? Or is it mainly animal-based protein that is harmful? BTW, this type of eating has helped me increase strength and gain some lean mass (~4lbs) so it has been effective in that sense. I have been unsuccessful in finding studies that directly compare animal vs. plant based protein consumption. Thanks a lot

    • @MictheVegan
      @MictheVegan  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +TheOpportuneNoodle It is certainly animal based proteins that are most harmful. Especially when talking about boosting IGF-1 which is cancer fuel when it is too high. Here is that study you were looking for:
      cebp.aacrjournals.org/content/11/11/1441.full.pdf+html
      Crazy refined plant protein like soy protein isolate have been shown to boost IGF-1 as well, but normal soy does not.
      Allegedly you can get the same protein-muscle synthesis at 0.6 grams/lb of body weught as 1.0-1.5 g/lb so you are certainly meeting your target.

      The problem is buddy by eating too much to get the protein you need will make you fat.
      Being fat is front row ticket to heart disease. You need to cut down on food and consume fish like salmon good for the heart and beans. Adding occasional grain fed chicken or organic chicken. Completely vegan is not recommended for adding muscle or being lean and cut unless very good genetics.

Hell, I do some power lifting and work to be as strong as I can and 20-25% of calories from protein I think is fine for me.

      +The Dancing Snail Awesome!! Jake is great. Thank you :)

    • @onaclover-coveredhill9618
      @onaclover-coveredhill9618 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +The Dancing Snail Hello, protein is essential for maintaining your skin and colloidal osmotic blood pressure. Please remember that all of these Vegan enthusiasts are not registered dietitians, nurses, physicians, biochemists, biologists, or experts in human physiology. Cholesterol, such as that found in the cell membranes of all living things, including plants, animals and even fungi is essential to life. Otherwise cells could not maintain homeostasis (or form). Even spearmint has cholesterol. Healthy fats (omega 3 and 6 and plant-based saturated fats) are essential for brain health.
      To be quite honest, the worst thing you can do for your body is to have excessive carbohydrate intake. High-Carb vegans are essentially running down the life of their pancreases, livers, and creating a very high risk of type 2 diabetes later on in life, through excessive carb intake (stressing the pancreas) and causing osmotic diuresis of sugars through the kidneys. Those high-carb vegans are peeing frequently to waste the sugars their bodies cannot convert to fat (due to shock to the pancreas and an inability to produce enough insulin). This is a similar issue to type I diabetics, who frequently die of kidney failure from the osmotic diuresis of glucose in their urine. Eating in excess of 500 grams of carbs a day will also cause systemic inflammation similar to metabolic syndrome, causing coronary artery disease and plaques to form. Total free cholesterol lab tests do not assess and are not diagnostic of pre-formed plaques. They merely tell a person how many circulating fats (triglycerides, cholesterol, & etc) they have at the time the blood was drawn.
      High carb vegans also, suffer from chronic diarrhea due to the fluid and electrolyte imbalances they are giving their bodies and forcing their bodies to excrete through their large colon, along with vast amounts of fluid. This is another avenue through hyperosmolar diuresis can occur. For instance, too many bananas (potassium) can cause diarrhea (along with cardiac failure and seizures and tetany and arrhythmia and acute confusion).
      Please remember to follow your physician's advice before consulting with individuals who are not experts and have no code of ethics to adhere to. Individuals like freelythebananagirl and durianrider, and their proponents are profiting at the expense of many (including at their own expense), as well as attempting to shut down/shut up the people who are having acute pancreatitis from the diet changes. The lab results they show on their channels are NOT comprehensive. They do not show pancreatic or liver enzymes, hemoglobin A1C, or hormone levels. They do not have urinanalyses performed to asses 24hr creatinine and urea levels and glucose levels in urine. They are not actually being worked up in a way that would be diagnositc of the potential problems a high carb vegan will face. If you are a low-carb vegan, great. But if you are a high carb vegan or ANY vegan advocating that individuals who eat a balanced diet including animal fats and meat are at a higher risk of cancers or diseases of any kind, you are mistaken. The world is polluted through and through. To think you can escape environmental causes (dietary as well) of disease, you are again, unfortunately mistaken. A large part of disease processes are genetic, as well as life-style related. Places with the highest lifespans in the world are places wherein individuals eat a balanced, often ethnic diet of fruit, vegetables, grains, and fats and proteins (from both animal and plant sources). There is no vegan race/culture that has a markedly higher lifespan than those cultures/races that eat animal products in moderation. Living forever is not the secret to the universe, it is an unrealistic, wish brought on by ego crisis. The life in your days is much more important than the number of days in your life. I believe this as a hospice nurse.
      Please also be advised that fructose, such as that found in fruit and in processed, sweetened foods (high fructose corn syrups) are stressors on the pancreas that increases the proliferation of pancreatic cancer cells. Pancreatic cancer has some of the highest mortality rates of all cancers. And Steve Jobs died very likely because of his fruitatarian diet. Glucose is needed for instant energy. Proteins can be broken down into carbs and released slowly, causing less insulin spikes. Hyperinsulinemia (too much insulin in the blood) is found in insulin resistant individuals, women with poly cystic ovarian syndrome, and Type II diabetics. Too much insulin in a body that is inflamed from the acidic sugars and conversion to fat will most definitely lead to abdominal weight gain, higher cortisol levels, and hormone changes from estrogen to androgen in women.

      +On a Clover-Covered Hill The cholesterol in plants is not the cholesterol that is in mammals and therefore is irrelevant: "All plant foods are considered cholesterol-free....Plants contain their own special forms of cholesterol called “phytosterols”, but phytosterols are toxic to human cells, so our intestines wisely refuse to absorb them" - From an MD at www.diagnosisdiet.com/food/cholesterol/
      You are clearly swallowing the anti-carb fearmongering hook, line, and sinker. The Okinawans ate 85% of their calories from carbs in 1949 and are widely accepted to be one of the longest living, healthiest cultures on Earth. (Page 10: www.okicent.org/docs/anyas_cr_diet_2007_1114_434s.pdf)
      The longest living population on Earth, however, is the Adventist Vegetarians, 15% of which are vegan:

      Funny that you are spouting all this stuff about diabetes. As a nurse do you have experience with diabetic neuropathy? After years of extreme burning from malfunctioning nerves, patients had "Complete relief of the SDPN pain occurred in 17 of the 21 patients in 4 to 16 days" on a low fat vegan diet. Also, blood sugar is included on those shallow blood tests. Doesn't seem to be an issue. www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.3109/13590849409003592
      Lastly, I don't follow the advice of Freelee and Durianrider, I follow the advice of Drs Esselstyn, Barnard, Campbell, Greger, McDougall (mostly), and others. I just don't understand where you are getting all of this "high carbers have diarrhea, etc" information. No studies, nothing, just guilt-driven nonsense. Also, genetics are an excuse to not change your ways...in 95% of cases triggered by bad diet/environment.

      +Mic. the Vegan
      1. Plant Based Cholesterols do not turn into animal cholesterol in human bodies, which is something I never stated occurs. I stated that it is essential that all animals and plants have cholesterol in their cell membranes. So, if plants do not give your cells that essential thing, where does it come from? Your body makes cholesterol from carbohydrates and fats and proteins (by the process of deamination). Your leap in logic is hard to ignore. I am speaking to mostly High Carb Vegans, as stated. Also, carbohydrates in excess (i.e. the average of 500 grams high carb vegans like FreelyTheBananaGirl indulge in) can have a significant impact on your lipid profile.
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1479303/
      2. About Okinawans. They still ate animal products in moderation. If 85% of their calories came from carbs, then fine. That figure doesn't give ANY useful information on total daily caloric or carbohydrate intake. So you are using this information incorrectly to justify the idea that a "high carb" diet is equivalent to "getting most of their calories from carbs." Those two things are not the same for several reasons. High carb vegan diets encourage people to eat much more than their recommended daily intake of both calories and carbohydrates. High carb vegans advocate intake in extreme excess of caloric needs. The participants in this study you mentioned, DO NOT overindulge. Basically the difference between Okinawan participants in this study and high carb vegans is: Okinawans eat mostly carbs, within daily caloric intake. High carb vegans put themselves into clinical glucosuria by taking in nearly 500 GRAMS of carbs a day, well beyond their caloric needs and muscular glycogen stores. Please tell me you can see how these are not the same thing, therefore this study you brought my attention to is irrelevant for what is being discussed. I could eat 1000 kcals of fat/day or 1000kcals of carbs a day. Those Okinawans are not binging on their carbs. They are healthy because they have moderation, including moderate consumption of meat/dairy. And if you recall, the food pyramid recommends that most calories come from carbohydrate sources (fruit, grain, and dairy) anyway. So how is this any big shocker? Basically you just compared a statistic for "primary caloric consumption based on recommended intake" to a "primary caloric consumption equal to three days' of recommended intake." The one taking in 3 days of carbs in one day, sometimes in one sitting, is the high-carb vegan.
      3. Adventist Vegetarians are not the longest living population on Earth. And this article does not claim that they are. It is a prospective study based on SELF-REPORTED information via survey. It is quantitative, but descriptive and thus a very, very weak study, especially when depending on survey. Participants completing studies are at high risk in these studies for user error and user bias. Additionally, the descriptive statistics used to assess the information used in this study is prone to Type I and Type II error. The level of measurement of the data collected in this study is of nominal level, the lowest level of measurement. You have never performed research, or maybe you have never critically analyzed research before. That's okay, most people haven't. But the fact that you used this article, basically just threw it out means you must not have read it either or else you would know it doesn't support your claims. Authors make no claim that these individuals are the longest living population/culture/creed. At all. Also, 15% are vegan (15% of a population is significant, but they are not the majority of individuals being studied). The last reason why this is an exceptionally weak study to bring out to support veganism as the only way to live/be is that the study looks at a multitude of other variables such as cigarette smoking, hormone replacement, access to healthcare (and preventative medicine), and exercise. These are MANY variables. Overall, this is a very weak study to support your argument that "veganism is the way to live the longest." The article is also from 2001 (outdated) by over a decade.

      +Mic. the Vegan 4. Environmental pollutants do mostly come from animal fat and animal sources. You can choose to cut them out completely or eat in moderation, just as the healthiest races of people do already. Also, you can probably cut out some of your risk factors by not using teflon coated or aluminum cook/bakeware. But yes. I stand by my statement that the world is polluted through and through. Even ORGANIC farms do not always have a history of being organic and chemicals remain in their soil. And unless you collect rainwater and turn it through distilling and RO into something 100% verifiably pure, then guess what? Your water is full of it as well. All water. Even potable city water has traces of pollutants (i.e. the fancy, designer cancer treatment chemicals that are metabolized and excreted into the city water). Not all of these are filtered out or even able to be removed by resources available to water treatment facilities, sorry to say.
      5. "Lastly, I don't follow the advice of Freelee and Durianrider, I follow the advice of Drs Esselstyn, Barnard, Campbell, Greger, McDougall (mostly), and others. I just don't understand where you are getting all of this 'high carbers have diarrhea, etc" information. No studies, nothing, just guilt-driven nonsense."
      a. Good thing you don't follow Freelee/Durianrider.
      b. Bad thing you take whatever Drs. Esselstyn, Barnard, Campbell, & whoever else you copied in order from wikipedia as gospel. Don't forget, they are making money as well. And what sells better than "The big bad companies and big bad doctors want you to eat meat for their profit?" These are the same people who refuse to whistle blow on things that MATTER, things that kill people every day directly, not by proxy. For instance, big pharma paying "for profit" ethical review boards for the go-ahead to perform unethical research on homeless, disabled children, veterans, the elderly, & foreign/illiterate/uneducated/uninformed participants over-seas. What about recruiting illegal aliens for drug trials to and using leverage like "oh you might be deported if you don't take this...."? What about the physicians and researchers who are paid big money to keep silent? You know... There is a book you might genuinely be interested in called White Coat Black Hat. By the way, Dr. Campbell states that he is not a vegetarian or a vegan, "because they often infer something other than what I espouse." Can't say I blame him... Because he seems to have a holistic insight into the many causes of disease. Blaming just one thing (animal products) for the host of diseases out there is just ridiculous nonsense. And any physician or pathologist will explain to you, especially one not profiting directly, how many avenues through which disease take root. Diet is just one part of it. Veganism is just one exercise in "security theater."
      c. As for the rest on diarrhea & the like, I am getting it from freelee and durian rider themselves who have admitted to loose stools, along with many of their followers (ones who had good and bad experiences). Not surprisingly, freelee and durian both try to bully people who have tried their diets and suffered very negative consequences into complete silence. They try to shame them. They accuse them of "not doing it right" and "cheating" and "trying to get attention/hide the truth/promote meat." It's just as disgusting as the corporations who pay off doctors and researchers to be "silent" rather than advocate for people's health and well-being, whatever that means for them. You can check out their videos and pour through the nonsense to find them discussing it. Or you can google hyperosmolar diuresis, potassium wasting through liquid stools.... Fluid & electrolyte imbalances brought on through excess dietary intake...
      d. But I assure you this is not "guilt-driven nonsense." I have nothing to gain by telling you what I am telling you. I am not making a profit unlike freelee, durianrider, and Dr Esselstyn. I'm not trying to become a youtube hit. I'm concerned. I am very concerned about the food-shaming going on here and for very little to show for it. I can tell you are passionate, but do you have to resort to ad hominems to make a point? I don't believe you have to.

I have noticed that I am intaking around 80 grams of protein a day. This is largely from beans, nuts, and seeds. I have also noticed I am getting around 100 grams of fiber. Do I need to tweak my meals to get lower protein? Thanks so much for what you do, and i hope to hear from you.

    Mic as always your videos are great, I'd just like to point out that we should not base our proteins intake by a fixed amount but on our body weight ( as long as we talk about a healthy with a normal BMI value) or to be more precise on lean muscle mass, as taller people for example will have a higher protein need, and let's not forget that if we practice any physical activity the proteins needed are going to be more as metabolic processes of recovery and adaptation require proteins as well. It is well established that the minimum amount of proteins per day should be around 0.75 gr x kg of body weight if you are sedentary and don't practice any sports and it goes up to around 1,3-1,5 gr for strength sportsand most of the sports in general and even to 1,8 or a bit more for endurance sports, of course depending on your level, but that's basically it

      Kroneexe that is precisely the point. Horses take grass and it is fermented in their stomach, that process is where they get the nutrients from the grass, it’s not just “digesting”, humans cannot do this. "Things to watch out for are giving your body a high acid load (amino acids)".... WHAT?
      Amino ACIDS yeah ACIDS are the building blocks in protein, ANY protein, Like the one in your brain, muscle tissue, cell membrane etc.
      the word acid doesn't mean shit. an acid is a molecule capable of giving an hydrogen proton. that's all it is.
      not all acids, or even most for that matter - burn you / eat your flesh.
      do you know the there are acids even in or RNA and DNA? Nucleic Acids are ESSENTIAL to EVERY SINGLE life form, go read a science book, and educate yourself before you go ahead and ruin other people's health.
      "Things to watch out for are giving your body a high acid load (amino acids) " Smh..
      and for the record, I support veganism, because it is better for our environment and it is morally right in my opinion. but not because of it's health benefits, because in life, everything has 2 sides, just like animal based diet has it's downsides and upsides, so does a plant based diet.

      +SwagmodeOn I suggest you brainstorm first; make a list of plant foods you like. Next, think of meals you like and see how you can make them vegan. Like pasta with veggies, mushrooms, beans, and tomato sauce or vegan alfredo (lots of vegan alfredo recipes out there). Bean burgers, vegan pizza, stir fried veggies with rice and tofu/mock meats. How about veggies and chips with hummus? That's becoming popular. And peanut butter and jelly is a classic- just be careful not all bread is vegan, but you should be able to find some vegan bread in most stores. Ezekiel bread costs a little more but is worth it, since it's vegan and use sprouted whole grains.
      Cron-o-meter helped me greatly for meal planning, and it will show you how much protein, calcium, iron, zinc and other nutrients you're getting.
      It helped me to establish easy meals I could make from simple, whole plant foods, and batch cook them so I can just heat up stuff on days I work. There are lots of resources out there for vegan health and recipes. Dr. Michael Greger and Dr. Neal Barnard are excellent resources; there are many vegan TH-cam cooking channels too.
      Best of luck, and reply to this thread if you have any questions or want advice. I'll do my best to offer some tips:)

    She said it's more about saturated fats than cholesterol. Could you address that in the future? Where might that have come from and is there any truth behind it?

      yup there is a research paper on it also ,it is dietary saturated fat which increases serum cholesterol not cholesterol for most people ,people on vegan diet with 0 cholesterol have also died of cvd

  • @skipeveryday7282
    @skipeveryday7282 7 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    You mean fat then not protein.
    Also I'm a vegan but unlike you I don't weigh 100lbs. When I ate meat I ate mainly turkey,egg white and tuna. My saturated fat intake was low and obviously my cholesterol was fine also. I think when we are talking about people who work out it's very different in terms of how much we need. And all the data supports that. It's widely debated how much but 55 grams definately isn't going to do the job. You'll end up skinny and weak. Great if you're and endurance athlete. Bad of you're a combat sports athlete or a powerlifter ect. And yes like you said studies have shown that those who eat the most meat have the highest rates of heart disease. But those studies are done on the general population who obviously eat alot of fatty meat and so their saturated fat intake is high. High protein doesn't neccearilly mean high fat. Please don't demonise protein. You'll give all the bros an excuse to ignore everything you say. Demonise saturated fat instead.
    ps I eat between 180 and 200 grams of protein while being plant based/vegan. Which again shows its not the protein that's the problem but instead it's the fst. also there's a big difference between protein deficiency to the point of needing medical treatment and not getting adequate protein for your fitness goals. The general population doesn't need that much protein. I agree. But many athletes do.

      @skipeveryday7282 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Akalion Protein is one of the three macro nutrients. The three being fat,carbs and protein. As was explained in the video it's the FAT in the animal protein that is doing the harm. Not the protein. So he should have said animal FAT.

    • @kon6768
      @kon6768 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bros glorify saturated fat almost as much as protein, so in terms of giving bros an excuse it doesn't matter whether he demonizes protein or saturated fat.

    • @kon6768
      @kon6768 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Although protein and fat are different macro nutrients, they don't exist separately. His goal was to show the connection between animal protein and saturated fat intake.

      Kon They do exist separately. And like I already said it's very possible to have an extremely low saturated fat I take while consuming animal proteins.

But let’s ignore the thousands of ex vegan stories because muh animal feels

    • @broddr
      @broddr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      D Money, and where are your studies supporting your claim that a vegan diet will leave people to "certainly be worse off long term"?
      Oh, that's right, you don't have any. The Adventist-2 study compared health and longevity among long term vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores among over 5,000 people. The vegans lived longer and healthier lives than the vegetarians, who were healthier and longer lived than the omnivores. And those Adventist omnivores were not eating the standard American diet, they ate a lot less meat than that. And that study is just one of hundreds that show a long term vegan diet is healthier. There's no need to cherry pick.

    My name is Luke and I am actually trying to gain some weight in muscle mass.
    I don't eat animal protein but is all protein bad.
    I currently weigh around 140 lbs.
    I want to be at least 160 lbs.
    I have been consuming at the minimum 48 grams of protein a day sometimes almost 100 grams of protein.
    Does the amount of protein vary upon your individual physique goals?
    You make a convincing argument against most of what I hear everywhere else.

    wow you almost fooled me with your carefully worded about protein being a killer but in the end it was the cholesterol which is the real killer not protein. chicken breast is the best source of protein and its also very lean which won't be a problem to anyone.
    i know you vegans are very passionate about your life style but trying to mislead people with cherry picked information will only turn people off/away by your attitude, if you really want people to join your believe than be truthful about everything.

      Source: www.theveganbuddhist.com/2016/04/meat-and-cancer-igf-1.html (*I know this guy*This person is still writing... hes studying biochemistry and Nutrition science... So check him out in months to come for some in depth science backing veganism) Meat and Cancer IGF-1
      IGF-1 Causes cancer?
      In a Investigation into cancer named,
      European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC),
      they did a number of studies, one named "Insulin-like
      growth factor-i and risk of differentiated thyroid carcinoma in the
      European prospective investigation into cancer and nutrition."(3) that showed that
      "There
      was a positive association between IGF-I concentrations and risk of
      differentiated thyroid carcinoma: the OR for a doubling in IGF-I
      concentration was 1.48 (95% confidence interval, 1.06-2.08; Ptrend =
      0.02). The positive association with IGF-I was stable over time between
      blood collection and cancer diagnosis.".
      With a conclusion showing:
      " These findings suggest that IGF-I concentrations may be positively associated with risk of differentiated thyroid carcinoma.".(3)
      In
      the same investigation I found multiple studies linking either IGF-1 to
      cancer or studies that tested IGF-1 with Insulin-like growth
      factor-binding protein-(3) (IGFBP-3)**1
      that made the test defective in resulting conclusions. For example,
      this study done on IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 in relation to cancer in the EPIC
      investigation presented this outcome:
      **1: ("The Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein also known as IGFBP serves as a carrier protein for Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1)" "Approximately 98% of IGF-1 is always bound to one of six binding
      proteins (IGF-BP). IGFBP-3, the most abundant protein, accounts for 80%
      of all IGF binding. IGF-1 binds to IGFBP-3 in a 1:1 molar ratio. IGF-BP
      also binds to IGF-1 inside the liver, allowing growth hormone to
      continuously act upon the liver to produce more IGF-1"(6))
      "Our
      present study results were combined in a meta-analysis with those from 9
      previous prospective studies to examine the overall evidence for a
      relationship of prediagnostic serum IGF-I with colorectal cancer risk.
      In the EPIC study, serum concentrations of IGF-I and IGFBP-3 showed no
      associations with risk of colorectal cancer overall(4)"
      Key word being IGF-I AND IGFBP-3. Thinking
      that there had to be a reason for this conclusion in a controlled study
      of this magnitude, I looked at a review of the study to find the reason
      why the EPIC study didn't find data to suggest IGF-1 or its binding
      protein causing cancer. In the review found why:
      "high IGF-I and low IGFBP-3 increase risk of colorectal cancer" "Because
      determinants of tissue IGF bioactivity appear to be regulated in
      parallel with circulating IGF-I level, it is reasonable to hypothesize
      that the substantial intraindividual variability in circulating levels
      of IGF-I and IGFBP-3 may be important in determining risk of some
      cancers(5)"
      The EPIC study showed no association with IGFBP-1 or 2 and cancer concluding:
      "No clear colorectal cancer risk associations were observed for IGFBP-1 or -2(7)"
      Meaning that first, IGFBP wasn't association with cancer second, that the study(4)
      wasnt using the correct controlled variables resulting in corrupted
      data. With that said, I can easily conclude that IGF is associated with
      cancer, and that IGFBP has nothing to do with causing cancer. To take
      this one step further I found a study that tested "The
      association of diet with serum insulin-like growth factor I and its
      main binding proteins in 292 women meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans."(8). This study concluded:
      "Intake
      of protein rich in essential amino acids was positively associated with
      serum IGF-I (Pearson partial correlation coefficient; r = 0.27; P <
      0.0001) and explained most of the differences in IGF-I concentration
      between the diet groups. These data suggest that a plant-based diet is
      associated with lower circulating levels of total IGF-I and higher
      levels of IGFBP-1 and IGFBP-2."(8)
      Linking protein with the IGF-I serum.
      What's IGF-1 got to do with meat?
      Meat has high amounts of
      protein, a complete amino acid profile. This means that it contains, in
      even and high amounts, all the essential amino acids your body can not
      make on its own. Intake of these amino acids in higher amounts has been
      linked to cancer explained above.

    Really interesting video, can you do protein recommendations for vegan bodybuilders perhaps? I'm thinking for a 180-190 pound male, how many grams of protein per pound is recommended? Typically the ratios are 1gram per pound (for bodybuilders), which is nearly triple your recommendation, you don't look like you lift or cite studies pertaining to bodybuilders.
