    Very helpful and informative vid! I love that you split them into different categories like that and specified the number to get
    I actually plan on setting up my old 40 breeder when I have the space for it, and stocking with my three favorite fish: some platies, a bristlenose, and if there's room, a nice school of black skirts
    What I really like about that idea is that the platies will provide lots of bright warm colors while their tankmates offer a nice contrast with their darker, more neutral coloration, just...feels like such a nice combination to me

    I’ve been singing the praises of Florida Flag Fish and their algae cleaning for a while now. I used mine to combat black beard algae and he completely obliterated it. Moved him to another tank to deal with some hair algae and had the same positive result. In both cases he was in planted tanks with nano fish (CPD, tetras) and he paid them no mind whatsoever.

    Hi, Great selections. Currently I'm researching a 40 gallon breeder South Asian biotope. I need to continue researching plants and fish in regards to water parameters. Probably I'll be purchasing the aquarium in the next two to three months. I just trudged back inside after shoveling snow away from my neighbor's and my furnace exhausts. If you have a high efficiency furnace keep your exhaust clear of snow! Stay warm!

    I LOVE these suggestion videos. as a new fishkeeper, (with 3 tanks already) these really help me to decide what I might put in my next tank. I am planning a rack system with a 47.7 gal, and 2 21 gal from ultum nature systems. It will be a looker!!!! Currently Ive got a neon tetra school tank 29 gal, an 8.75 gal neocaradinia tank, and a 2.8 gallon cull tank for the neos.

I also have another 40 breeder with a hopeful future breeding group of 9 rusty mbuna. There are 3 males and 6 females. They are around 2" now.

    I’m currently setting up a 40Breeder right now and am really interested in the Mbuna setup. I watched your mbuna video and some others and it seems like the consensus is that I need a minimum of 75 gallons, but I also know about the 40B surface area being perfect for those slightly bigger cichlids. Also the whole aggression thing seems to be split between giving the fish enough space but also overcrowding to lower their aggression. How could I nitpick this to make this work out? I have a fair bit of cichlid experience but they’ve always been solo or a centerpiece amongst smaller tropicals.

I am currently cycling a 55 gallon non live planted tank. My youngest loves the red and blue dwarf gourami at the local mom and pop fish store and my eldest loves the cardinal tetra and harlequin rasboras. Keeping there choices in mind what else and how many of each would you add to the tank? Are we able to work a centre piece fish into the mix or are the dwarf gourami filling that roll? With the Lake Tanganyika cichlids, you used flagstone stacked, creating caves. What is this space measurement? I have thick slate, and stacked the way you did it, it creates 3/4" space. Is that enough for the lemon cichlids to swim into and use for breeding? (When looking at fish and their needs, only adult length is given, not widest width vertically.) This will be for an elementary school aquarium. Thanks

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the space is probably around an inch or so? 3/4 might be enough though. You could always double stack some to give some space that is 1.5"?

    If I do angelfish, rams, peacock gugeon, Cory cats, and bristlenose in a 40 gallon, is this too much variety? If not, how many of each?
    Next question. My tank is cycled and ready to put fish in. How many do I start with and how far apart. I don't want to put too many in to quick. So what is a good rule here?

    My 40 breeder is what I consider to be "semi-aggressive". 4 pairs of Golden Wonder Killifish, 8 Buenos Aires Tetra's, an adult Pearl Gourami, a CAE (yeah I know but we love our Goldspot) and about 20 Cory's of various species. The tank has been up for about 3 years and I really don't see any aggression and Goldspot still eats algae at 71/2" and 21/2 years old.

    So I built a community tank based on this video. So far I have 4 German Blue Rams 1 male and 3 females, 4 peacock gudgeons, 6 platys, 6 marbled hatchet fish, 4 yoyo loaches and 2 angel fish. The coolest part is that my 2 baby angel fish, about the size of a quarter, have really taken to and been excepted by hatchet fish. The angles are very similar in color I would say very close to camouflage colored. They float with their noses up next to the top slightly tilted. In the exact same position as the hatchetfish. They spend almost their whole day floating in the center of the hatchetfish in a tight little cluster. Pretty cute

    I have a 30-gallon with 11 Black Neon Tetras, 10 Black Skirt Tetras, 6 Bronze Corydoras and 1 Ancistrus. I especially like the combination of Black Neons and Black Skirts since they school at different levels. Plus the Black Skirts don't hide as much as they do on their own.

    Loved the video. I have a 40 gal breeder. 1 bolivian ram, 9 ember tetras, 8 cardinal tetras and 6 otos. (Also 6 rummynose tetras getting delivered). I seen your video on congo tetras could i add some of those or would it be over stocked since they need at least 6?

    My 40 breeder I initially went with liberty mollies, would recommend that your tank isn't TOO densely planted, had WAAAY too many fry (started with 10 and wound up with approximately 70 in a month, there was little to no cannibalism, and took quite the effort to remove and rehome them all. figure less plant cover and some predatory fish would help reduce the population of fry to a more manageable level if I give them another go.

    can someone give me advice, I am setting up my first fishtank, would this stocking be too much for a 40 gallon?
    2x golden angelfish (pair)
    12x Kerri tetra
    6x congo tetra, or maybe boesmani rainbows ( I think rainbow fish are too big, just want to confirm)
    2x bristlenose plecos
    nerite + apple snails
    x6 kuhli loaches.
    I realise this is a lot, what would be the minimum tank size for this? Bear in mind the tank is heavily planted for oxygenation.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I might just go with one angelfish. A pair can cause problems later if they breed.

    I would like to add my 2 peacock gudgeons to my 50 gallon community tank, but cannot get them eat anything except some frozen foods. I do have shrimp in there so they would eat some shrimplets, but not a whole lot of them. Just saying. How do feed yours, I am assuming you have them.

    Love the cichlid suggestions but I went another route that doesn't seem to get much attention; Lake Victorian cichlids. I've got half a dozen mix of Ruby Green, Nyereiei, and Zebra Obliquidens. I'm already a big fan of Malawi haps but hardly see anyone talking about the cool Victorian haps out there!

    I am getting ready to setup a 40g breeder and I am considering a African butterflyfish and about 6 to 8 African butterfly cichlid, I am a fairly experienced keeper about 30 years of keeping a 125 with South American cichlid. Do you think this would work? And should I add a bristlenose and a school of cory cats?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think everything could work but I might do fewer butterfly fish just because that might be too many for the top of the tank? The bristlenose and Cory cats should work fine too!
