    I must have got Demon Electric Blue Acara, either that or once a pair forms, all bets are off!! I had to split the original 6 out of my community 100. 3 of them took out 2 Dennison Barbs and a mature Rosy Barb, while picking the scales off the rest of the Rosies, in a heavily hardscaped and densely planted 125 gallon!! I have 2 females and a male left in my 100 gallon community without any problems yet, I suspect it's because they haven't paired. I love them as a centerpiece, still. 1 in a tank is truly splendid. The shimmer of chartreuse and teal over several striking shades of blue is remarkable. I recommend everybody have at least 1, but maybe just 1.
    Which is why I jumped on the chance to get 7 EBA/wild-type Blue Acara hybrid fry, LOL!! They've already killed the smallest, and a new dominant emerges within 24 hours of taking out the previous dom. But at almond size they are individually innocuous in my endler tanks.
    We all know this is leading to more tanks.....😅🤣😂🤣😂🤣

    Hybridization in Geophagus, or eartheaters (Acarichthys, Biotodoma, Gymnogeophagus, Mikrogeophagus, Retroculus), is very uncommon, I remember seeing only one case under forcing conditions (G. abalios x pyrocephalus). In my experience, unless one mixes very similar looking species, the fish find their own group even in a mixed setup. Mixing is often unintentional as there are just too many undescribed species, and even the described or available ones, most people cannot distinguish them. 125 gallon is sufficient for most Geophagus, though 180 would be better for the larger members (G. abalios, G. altifrons, G. megasema, G. proximus, etc.) and rheophilic species (G. argyrostictus, G. taeniopareius, etc.). While 300+ gallon 8-10 feet setup is recommended for the more aggressive (G. harreri taking the throne for being the most violent and G. surinamensis, the real one, coming at second place)

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was referring to the surinamesis group, which can hybridize far more easily and their distinctions are already quite small. : -)

    • @kmingtam
      @kmingtam ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PrimeTimeAquatics even within that group it is uncommon, and within other genus i have not heard of much, either intentionally or not... like a ram crossing with a bolivian ram...? even putting a weird pair like this in an isolated setup, i don't see them catching feeling for each other ...

    I have pearl gouramis, 4 of them. 1 male and 3 females. And there is some aggression actually, the male chases the females pretty often. And sometimes the females also chase each other a bit, although not as much.

    Thanks, Least Killifish don't get enough love! I have mine in a 20 gallon with Pygmy Corydoras. It's funny that they both have similarly dull colors. Unlike other livebearers the parents don't eat their babies, or at least not in large enough numbers to keep their population from exploding. The fry hang out in Subwassertang and aren't seen until I feed them. The adults are active and are fun to watch.

    The best species only rainbowfish for a 125g would be Melanotaenia vanheurni Faowi Village. It’s the largest known rainbowfish at 7” long, and is mostly orange with some yellow, green and blue.
    The best species only rainbowfish for a 75g would be Allen’s Rainbowfish, Chilatherina alleni Wapoga. The males shine with every color of the rainbow when they’re fired up.
    For a 36” aquarium, I’d choose the undescribed Melanotaenia sp. Kali Tawa. The males have light blue, white and some gold/amber. The dorsal fina are a beautiful light blue and the anal fin is a blazing white color which is really unique. Then they have tails which look like they were dipped in red paint. The females look great which is a nice bonus. They have amber bodies and orange horizontal stripes.
    For a 20g aquarium, I pick Pseudomugil gertrudae Aru II. This location type has blue bodies with black spots and amazing fins which are orange under good lights.
    For a 10g, I pick Pseudomugil luminatus. This species is a slightly smaller, red version of P. gertrudae.
