    I think every Tesla owner need to take a chill pill about the battery. I also have a 2022 Model 3 Performance, and I barely look at the range I have. I go by the battery percentage, I I have never worried about battery degradation. I do take care of my car, I only use superchargers when I have no choice like going on a trip. I also charge up to 80% unless I am going on a trip. Only a few times I charge to 90% when I know I will be doing some extra driving. In general, my car sits at home at around 60% to 70%, I charge at work as we have free charging which is the same power as I have at home, so no stress for the battery. On the other hand, I do accelerate hard many times, but that is one of the reasons I got the Performance model so it is what it is. I live in Florida so no worries about cold weather, only have to watch for floods. My Tesla just turned 2 years old so I will do the test you did whenever I have the time just out of curiosity, but unless I see some red flags (which I doubt it as my range seems to be just fine), I will not be paying much attention to any small degradation. If I want to preserve the battery as new, then I would not be able to drive at all, so, no, take a chill pill and just do your best to treat your Tesla good, and enjoy driving it. I will probably sell my car in about 3 years or so and get the new Ludicrous or whatever it will be called... or maybe a Model S Plaid if I can. Still, i will enjoy the car and don't worry much about the battery. Cheers.

    I have a 17 100D on 19 inch wheels that I bought used with 41,000 miles on it in December of 2020. Charge at home to 80%. Have lost just a little over 4% in range over the last 4 years and has leveled off and seems to be holding steady. Full charge gives me 320 miles under optimal conditions - at 80% the car still delivers 253 miles at 79,485 miles. No worries here.

    One of the best battery videos I've seen with good advice as well. Just short of 30k miles on my 2019 LR RWD Model 3. Basically I've followed your same routine. Locally I only charge to what I need. Rarely over 60 percent locally. Even on road trips I stay between 70-30. Store the car between 30-50% between drives. Supercharged 36% of the time due to road trips. Still around 305-310 miles of rated range. It was 325 when new. The BMS can swing pretty wildly when you keep to a low SOC regime.

    I typically charge at home to 80%, and the car gets plugged in every night. I only charge to 100% for road trips, although watching your road trip videos I noticed you rarely charge to 100, instead opting for more stops, but shorter stops. Normally if I'm road tripping I've opted for fewer, longer stops. I've downloaded A Better Routeplanner since my next road trip will be from my home in metro Detroit to Chicago (my daughter wants to see the K-pop group ENHYPHEN) so it'll be interesting to see what Tesla's navigation recommends vs. ABR.

    I have MYlR for 1 yr with 12k miles and still at 99% batt health.
    I stay between 30-70% SOC for daily, as much as possible I always want the SOC closer to 50%. I charge at home level 2.
    My advise is just charge when you need to. Dont leave it plugged in all the time sitting at higher SOC. Battery likes it best at 50% and anything closer to that is good

    • @allusernamesistaken
      @allusernamesistaken 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Leaving it plugged in is no problem. It stops charging at your set limit and only tops off after it’s dropped a bit. Also it will pull power from the cable instead of the battery if you use preconditioning etc.

    • @blueeyes75115
      @blueeyes75115 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Excellent approach to maximize your NCA battery. A youtuber got his hands on a tesla battery technician's paperwork and what the tech used was 30 and 80...anytime, within the car's life, the battery went below 30% SOC and above 80% SOC it was considered red- harmful...inside those percentages was considered green- good. This is what Tesla uses to determine why a battery degrades more than others. Tesla finally admitted to maintaining 80% max (lowering it from the typical 90% rule) for daily use but you'll never get them to admit the min 30% SOC....that means you can only use 50% of your NCA (LOng Range and Performance) Teslas...

  • @abelincoln3261
    @abelincoln3261 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Checking, worrying, estimation battery life at 2,3,4,5,6,7 years is ridiculously stupid... To do an actual battery degradation test you need a car that has 200 k miles and regardless of how many super or slow or whatever charges,, then you check it. The silly issues around charging are just that.. You'll see a degradation of about 10 to 13% over a 5 to 7 year period provided your car has been cared for properly and it has no unseen issues.. like factory defects etc.. there are Teslas right now with 300k miles original battery with more then 85% original range est.

I tend to drive a little harder than most. 77 mph on highways and faster than average starts at red lights.

    • @BurnseysRT

      Driving your car the way it was intended. I like it. I do the same with charging. I have dropped mine down 75% now that it’s starting to warm up a bit. With the winter I would do 80 and some days I would lose 8-10% just sitting idle in my parking lot while at work so some days I would use 15% while other I would use 40+%. Lots of variety of miles driven per day so I leave me more options.

    • @blackgold754
      @blackgold754 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think it’s probably because of winter which reduces your range or it could be you have some sett8n and technology turned on. I recommend just driving up to speed limit when you can and maybe turn off some Tesla features,probably like sentry mode, or maybe climate controls when you don’t need it. Those types of settings kinda drain battery so that could be the case. Either way, experiment a bit with settings that works for yo7 and that doesnt

    Curious to see a test comparing charging 110 daily vs charging 240 once or twice per week. My EV charges every single night because we only have a 110 outlet in the garage. I feel like long-term it would be better for all the various components if charged less frequently, albeit at higher voltage/amps. The sound of the charger, fans, etc going 7 nights a week seems excessive.

      if you did primarily super charging yes. if you did mostly home charging then no. I would consult with tesla and ask them why the range is showing much lower now. it could be the new epa cycle which lowered the rated range for all of the tesla models. That drop would make sense if the new epa cycle is updated to the older models. (2023 and below) The new epa estimate is supposed to be closer to the real world ideal range you would get rather than the previous over estimated values. I would check to see how much range you end up getting real world and your efficiency. If you can accurately get around 250+ miles of range from the entire battery pack, I would say your fine. Ik MYP showed rated as 303 before. But the new MYP show as 279 when you buy them. It doesn't mean that the newer models lost range or have a battery composition change, they just changed the estimated range to be more realistic. So if that change was applied in an over the air software update, you likely degraded from 279-->266 which would indicate about a 4.66% degradation which is actually quite good after 58,000 miles. I would recommend to charge at home primarily vs supercharging when you can.
      TLDR; Tesla likely incorporated their new epa testing to your range through an update so you're degradation is likely 4.66% (266/279 miles) and not 13% which would be quite concerning. Hope this helps.

    My 2022 Model 3 Long Range with 28,000 miles shows a limit of 338 miles. I have 19” wheels. Does having the 19” wheels factor into the range limit. If it doesnt than that’s only 5.5% range loss.

    2022 Model 3 rwd LFP now at 100,000 km current battery state of health 97%. I charge daily to 100% and drive it down to below 5% regularly. The only care concern with LFP is to not let the battery sit at below 20% SOC. So as soon as I get home I charge to 20% no matter what time it is and then stop charging until 11:00 pm so that at 6:00am I'm ready to go. BEST CAR EVER!!!

    I have a 2023 TM3SR (LFP battery pack) and in the 6 months of ownership I have seen the max range even though the battery will read 100%. I will normally charge upto 80-90 daily and to 100 once a week. However, whatever I set my charge limit to, my range is always 1% less than the charge that I set. For example 100% should get me 272, however this is not the case. 100% will get me 269 miltes of range. If i need the extra e3 miles of range then I would have to charge to 101%

It will have 640 range with about a 5 minute charge t0 80%. That's what tests show. And their higher trim models will have 995 miles range. Freaking nuts! WE are in the middle of a car technology revolution.

      Depends on how you charge - was just at dealer and they told me don’t charge at same state each time or it will damage battery. For example this guy would always charge his car when it got down to 50% and it carved a channel in the battery and had to be replaced. Other than that they couldn’t give number of life span for battery since model y is so new. I read online of a taxi driver that has one at 400k and still going strong.

    People worry too much about battery life. Whatever you do, these batteries in all EV's will eventually deterioriate. I say charge as needed and use it like a regular car. Having to put thought on when to charge at 80% or more, is just anxiety making. Charge and go. Worry later about a battery. If 100k down the line the battery has 50% less range, then sell it for what you can and get another car.

And don't care either way because it two years I won't own it anyway. For 99% of Tesla owners it's completely MOOT.
