    Rrserved an Ioniq N very early but the dealer added a $20k market adjustment and said take it or leave it. I hate the scum dealers. I left it.

      They did the same to me, even though I had purchased my last 3 cars through them. No loyalty to the long-time customer at all. I gave them the one-finger salute and bought a different brand elsewhere…a lease-buyback with only 6k miles in mint condition for half the price. That greedy dealership had the balls to call me back a few months later and offer the car at a “discounted dealer fee” of only 7k above MSRP. I told the salesman that I would never buy another car from them as long as I live. He apologetically said he understood, didn’t blame me for that, and said it was the same reaction he’d gotten from a good dozen people he talked to before me. Dealerships are killing the EV industry here in U.S..

      Exactly! Toyota and Hyundai is wasting billions pussyfooting with hydrogen. They need all their money and brainpower on pure BEVs or they will fall behind pure EV companies.

    Last year, I really wanted to buy a Hyundai Ioniq 5, but it was $50K and the Tesla Model 3 was $35K after US rebates, so I went with the Model 3.

    Biden recent tariff on Chinese EV is a wake up call.
    The poor US consumer is not going to get decent quality and priced EV’s for many years now.
    Let’s see how the EU reacts. The US just gave the EU the precedent / face saving excuse to also put massive tariffs in chip ese EV’s.
    The US embassies will be petitioning all the others in the 5 eyes network to follow suit too.
    I am in Australia and so it’s likely just a matter of time that they do the same here. But maybe the fact that Australia has no car manufacturing to protect, the Aussies may escape having to do it.
    Will be buying a Chinese SUV in a few months in Australia.

      yeah im not sure what he was thinking. probably the worst thing he could have done to the EV market in the USA. Hopefully up here in Canada we don't do the same. I say welcome the chinese EV's

      It's not just an EV issue, US can't build quality anything anymore. So they have to put tariffs on imports in order to compete by being "cheaper".

      Im a parts person and i noticed on that video that the invoice they showed with a $60,000 total wasnt for 1 battery it was an invoice for 3! Total BS news storry

I wouldn't touch a Hyundai EV here in Australia even though I really like the design of the Ioniq. Waiting for 12+ month with 20k premium on top of retail price in this competitive market is a joke...

      @@markuc I don't live in Australia. The dealer tactics mentioned here are not necessarily present in other markets, (where I live) hence its the Austealians themselves that create/follow certain practices and behaviors. To push the blame/behavior onto the brand (Hyundai) is covering up local nuances that don't always exist in other markets. So let's identify the operators a bit more clearly.

    Hey, Let me know what you think. I just got two Hyundai EV's yesterday. One for me, 2023 Kona and a 2021 ioniq for the college kid. Out West in the US - California, Oregon and Washington, we get $5,000 off of each due to the federal money discount thingy pushing EV's. They were both "Certified" by the Hyundai dealer. 10-year 100,000 mile warranty ... of course I don't have that much left now but the 2021 still has like 6 years and the 2023 like 8 years. They were both like new. The 2021 ioniq only had 21k miles for about $17,500. The Kona had under 4,000 miles for like $18,900 after a recent price reduction. There were no recalls for either one and neither had any maintenance that ever needed done. The 2021 ioniq battery was tested at over 93%. The Kona battery was tested at over 95%. The 2021 ioniq has a range of just 170 miles. The 23 Kona range is 260 but in eco mode it bumps to 273 miles.
    I hope I made a wise choice. The plan is to just keep them for about 3 years or so until EV's come out with better batteries etc. But we drive less than 7,000 miles per year. I really wanted to get rid of the old 1996 van with 18 mpg. BUT, it could go 500 miles on a full tank of petro ... I'll miss that.

      I think you made a great choice. Friends of ours have a Kona and love it. We just got a '22 Leaf that has 11K miles, advertised at $17K. After the federal rebate, we paid $13.6K and the car is still in warranty. It drives great, has 180 miles range, and is perfect for our college kid. Not as good a range as what you got, but whatever; it's just for local trips.

      If you have the money to spare then go for it. A lot of us are feeling the effects of our poor economy at the moment and won't be buying an EV anytime soon.

    They don't all get the tax credit in the US. April 2024 US sales Hyundai 68,603 down 3% from 2023. Every vehicle segment for every manufacturer is down. Since 2018 US combustion segment is down 13.2%. EU combustion segment is down 31%. New vehicle inventory is up 35% and discounting in all segments is the highest it's been since 2018. Across the board the economy is flat at best. Thanks for vid, Sam!

      Yes, all EVs do qualify for the federal tax credit when leased which is the way to go. Every 2 or 3 years, get a new model. 2022 Ioniq 5 RWD 16,000 miles THE BEST. Love the quiet, efficiency, simplicity and have had zero issues. My other car is a 2018 Hyundai Ioniq PHEV approaching 50,000 miles and OMG, in highway driving it’s over 60 MPG!!! 1 gallon an hour!! No problems either. THE BEST.

    When people at dealerships in the UK tell you the 5 and 6 are very expensive, you can see where Hyundai have got it wrong. The 28 and 38kW models were far cheaper and far more popular.

      Yeah i won't be selling my 2019 30kwh Ioniq anytime soon. i don't want an EV with a 60kwh battery. i dont need that big, its a waste.

      My 38 simply needed the option of a bigger battery and or faster charging. It's a great family car for all purposes. Hyundai have gone up market with pricing probably in fear of the Chinese but imo it's a big mistake.

    Friends of ours have a Kona and love it. Seems like a nice, affordable EV. We ended up with a '22 Leaf and we love it. It seems to me, there's a strong and continuing market for small, affordable EV's like the Leaf, the Bolt, Kona, etc. I don't understand why the car makers aren't flooding the market with these right now. Even if they are loss leaders, they're a gateway to more expensive, higher end EV's with longer range.

      Kona and Leaf are last generation technology. You'll be much happier in a Tesla, BYD, Volvo, Polestar or pretty much any Chinese EV brands (Zeekr, Nio, Xpeng, Mi, etc)

    Due to fierce competition and excess production capacity, most Chinese EV makers lost money in 2023 (aside from a few companies like BYD and Li Auto). Ford and GM also lost billions in EVs in 2023. How is this business model supposed to work if every major automaker loses money manufacturing EVs? And why are they losing so much money when they make EVs?

      An industry shakeout is coming. But even if losing money, shouldn't they keep their hand in the game? It's a way to build future sales. For example, GM should keep up the Bolt, Nissan should have kept the Leaf, etc. Let their profits from trucks prop up the EV units and eventually they'll achieve economies of scale to make money off these bad boys.

      I'm not even sure if BYD is making money. Their smaller Seagull and Dolphin models may not be profitable for the company, and these models would be the "bread and butter" model for the European market, who favors smaller vehicles. That's why Renault is releasing a new Renault 5 EV model, which is already in high demand.

    I see a lot of hyundai en Kia EVs in the Netherlands. Second hand sales of first and second gen Niro and kona's can also be seen a lot and fall well into the more manageable affordability threshold of a sub 20000 euro price bracket. I think Kia and Hyundai are doing well for themselves. Maybe not everywhere globally, but regionally and locally, I think they are. Hyandai and Kia makes nice cars. I notice I prefer them over a Tesla these days. Tesla may have the technology prowess, but I think Kia and Hyundai do better in an overall daring and lovable design and combined with great efficiency, it is something to consider. Beyond the model 2 I suppose the shine is a bit off the Tesla hype in my view. Stellantis has interesting offers around the competitive 20000 euro mark. For what you get however. I notice the price is still off the mark expensive and I would consider most offers bij Stellantis 5-10000 euros too expensive for what you get. I then lean more towards second hand options from Kia/Hyundai. I think Tesla cars for Europe are still too big. I hope the model 2 is more fitting and a well rounded package. Because of the hype I.think I am going to he disappointed in what Trsla will offer with the model 2, let alone it is still unknown of ownership of a model 2 will be possible at all, if model 2 and robotaxi is going to be the narrative business model.

      A $28K Model 2 that has 300+ miles of range is going to clean up in the low-mid range market. There's plenty of demand for a 2nd or 3rd vehicle that's fully electric. Plus, Tesla has the charger infrastructure dialed in and people know they can take it on long trips without too much to worry about (on well traveled routes, at least).

    I literally just read that sales were way UP in EV sales from Hyundai.
    I just got an IONIQ 5 last December and my girlfriend got a Kona two weeks ago.
    The problem with EV sales are the dealerships. The sales people are clueless and will sell only what they know, gas cars.

    Hyundai has started producing very nice vehicles in recent years. However, their authorized service centers have fallen significantly behind. In the country where I live, people are rejecting the purchase of Hyundai cars due to the negative attitudes and delays in taking action by the authorized service centers.

    We are gradually discovering that electrification is much more expensive than we were led to believe. Here in the Netherlands, subsidies are disappearing and we will now pay the real price for solar panels and EVs. As a result, sales are slumping.

    Hyundai needs to follow the model of Kia, which are releasing far less expensive EV's over the next few years. The upcoming Kia EV3 and EV5 models are smaller and better-suited for most buyers interested in EV's.

    Was recently in Korea and saw many Ioniq 5s which were mostly taxis. Only saw a few Kia EV6s and a few more Teslas. What is striking on the roads in Korea is the overall market dominance of Hyundai (and Genesis). Most European cars were very high end brands with very few Japaneses cars and a small number of US cars on the road

    They should send more EVs in Canada because we have to wait like 1 year for some like Ev9 and ev6. More ev = more sale for Kia/Hyundai but I think they don’t give a damn about Canada.

    Leased an Ionic 6 last month for $336 down $306 a month. Free charging with electrify American for 2 years. Lease is a 2 year 12000 miles.

    That’s what happens when you build an assembly plant in Singapore, you can’t drop your price to compete with Tesla or the Chinese market.
    I was arguing with some sg netizens who claimed that its low labour cost and good Just in time inventory etc etc.

    I would welcome more electric Sedans and Wagons, SUV models we have more than enough. The Problem of the Ioniq 6 is, it looks very ugly and is too expensive! The first Ioniq line was sold very successful in Europe. Almost the half of the Ioniq electric production were sold in european countries!

      As prices drop, batteries get better, chargers sprout up and selection is better, we'll see demand pick up, except among the Luddites. The early adopters are done, now us get-to-work schmucks are waiting for interest rates and NACS plugs. We're still years away from big USA battery plants. All the OEMs are dragging their feet and the UAW and both political parties are putting up blockades.

    I said when they shafted that guy over one battery pack that it was going to cost them a hundred million in sales.
    They were probably going to be 5 or 6 accidents like that per year so they're out of pocket costs would have been about $50,000.
    The dealer wanted to tried to charge the guy $30,000 at first and then Hyundai offered him a lower price of $20,000.
    Their greed destroyed them. If they had said yeah this is a terrible rare accident so we're going to cover it at our expense and get the guy a new battery, it would have been almost Priceless in terms of their advertising.
    And they should have redesigned the battery pack so it can't be destroyed by Road debris.

    Tesla mod Y sales so far in May 2024 in Norway are 12% compared to the whole of May 2023. Looks like a drop of around 75% for the whole month for Tesla. Looks like car sales for all brands have slowed down for a while.

    Tried to lease an Ioniq 5 LE Beginning January 2024 as Kona EV was ending April 2024. Hyundai was 58K with 899 mo Lease. Because of no tax credit on purchase I would only lease. End of March dealer had 10 LE’s in lot they couldn’t sell or lease. Went with 2024 Tesla Model Y Long Range at much lower lease price and a real Charging Network. Better Software and FSD.

    The Hyundai refresh of the ioniq 5 isn't available in many countries yet... likely due to the fact they're not manufacturing enough EVs.
    Hyundai doesn't have a glut of unsold EVs. It really looks like a manufacturing capacity issue to me.

    Big hurdle for Hyundai - and any other legacy automakers' EVs: customers will question whether the models, even the companies, will be around to support & maintain them.
    Disruption of the auto industry will follow a stereotypical path: most existing manufacturers will fail to make the transition to the new paradigm so we'll see serial consolidation & bankruptcies. Most will fail. And they'll burn through a series of EV models trying to figure out how to build a decent EV inexpensively enough to make a profit doing so. That means the EVs being sold today will be hard to maintain in the future.
    If the manufacturer survives (a long shot) many dealers won't.
    Quick iteration of models, none of which sells in large numbers, means dealers won't stock parts. Getting parts will be expensive, and tough to do anyhow.
    Tesla has always maintained they don't expect to end up with more than 30% market share once the dust settles. But it's becoming increasingly apparent that their competitors will be Chinese, unless western countries get serious about setting realistic tariff barriers (at LEAST 100%, probably more) and massively incent local production of EVs, motors, batteries, and battery materials (i.e. refining for lithium & perhaps rare earths).
    Western governments would be insane NOT to do this. If they don't, the end of auto manufacturing will doom their industrial manufacturing as a whole. Their economies will hollow out, and China will succeed in monopolizing ever more manufacturing product categories (which is, I maintain, their goal).
    IT markets tend towards monopolization, and EVs are pretty obviously less a manufactured consumer product & more a software platform - an IT product. As such, they will tend towards monopoly. We're seeing that. Fighting that tendency will be an uphill battle for any legacy auto firm that is serious about making the transition.

    They're too expensive and kinda disappointing... They had a good start with the Niro and the Kona but 2nd gen of those cars are much bigger and more expensive... They don't have a proper mini... Ioniq 6 should have been theyre proper new gen ev to compete with the model 3 and it just isnt

    Koreans have damaged their reputation too many times, LG chem batteries catch fire, Hyundai Ioniq 5 charging port overheating class action, also a recent incident an Ioniq 5 owner ran over some rock on the road damaged the cover plate under the car. Dealer told him the entire battery pack needed replacement for $60,000 or the car is unsafe to operate. Essentially write off for a minor accident.

    Hyundai & other EV manufacturers all qualify for the govt. $7500 rebate program if they lease the vehicles.
    Hence there are some incredible lease deals available here in the US. I expect there to be quite an uptick in sales due to leasing.

    i think its because of the design of Hyundai's new cars. I love my 2019 Ioniq, i think it looks great. The new Ioniq 5 looks like a modern 1980's pony... no thanks. and the Ioniq 6 could have looked great, the Prophecy was a beautiful concept car but it was executed poorly in the Ioniq 6. Make some nicer looking cars and they will sell

    Itest drove several different EVs. Tesla, ford, kia, and the Ioniq5. And by far the Ioniq 5 is head and shoulders better that anything i tested. The ford machE is very prety and plush on the inside, but ford had a 16000 mark up, and the vehicle was the shorter range version.... and the outside doesnt loom thatcgreat. Plus reviews of its construction/ lay out were not great. The tesla was very nice but way too spartan for my wofes taste ( and mine). The kia was nice but more expensive than i would have expected. The ioniq5 was by far the best.... great look, the inside is very comfortable with a very modern look. And it drove like a dream. Not as torque as the tesla, but way netter than the MacE. Over all the best of the bunch for me.

    Yes they maybe loosing money on their EVs but they are getting sone revenue for real world testing of the new technology . You are getting soneone to buy and test your vehichle and you dont have to foot the entire bill . What a deal . Now you dont want large numbers if a fairly new model on the road for testing . This can get you in trouble with warranty issues . Tesla would not put 500k of cyberyrucks in the road at the sametime at the inser if their production . They trickle them out slowly . Address the problems and make modifications in production and raise thise limits .

    Hyundai Kia EVs are small and not good looking. Most Hyundai buyers in the US are Tesla-haters. Remember Tesla model Y is the US now priced at 37 thousands, not mention about local incentives and 0.99% financing. Very competitive!

    Hyundai EVs are very EXPENSIVE in CANADA .
    Customers don't get to see and what it feels like to be inside of a Hyundai EVs, because, All the Hyundai dealerships don't even have any EVs on the floor displays.
    That is why Hyundai EXPENSIVE EVs are not selling as much.
    When people go to Tesla , people get to see and feel the experience to be inside of Tesla 's EVs.
    If Auto companies want to sell more of their EVs, all dealerships need to do is that, advertise and displays more of their EVs in dealerships.

    EV sales will stall until they have at least 450 miles of range. Love my used 2022 EV6 but will not buy any other EV until the range improves.
    New battery tech needs to be added to the cars to sell.
    Early adopters are already sold to, now they need to sell to the range anxious general public.
    Would also help if they had an option to make it easy to do a battery upgrade when new battery tech comes out. Why is no one talking about upgradability?

    I bought a Koa EV6 two years ago, shortly after getting it (after a long wait) they put the price up 10%. Then Tesla dropped their prices significantly. Since those two events there's been a significant drop-off in interest.
    I have just changed to a Model 3 Long Range, and its still a much better car. Supercharging and the outright efficiency cant be beaten by anything else on the market right now.

    It’s a shame because they make a fantastic product. I assumed too much about them partly because I assumed they were able to make their own batteries as part of the vertical integration strategy. It sounds like they need to repair their relationship with China as well. I agree

    I’m not an EV fanboy. As a matter of fact, I like my V8 cars. But to be fair, ALL car sales are plummeting. With the average car note in the USA being 750$ a month, people are just not buying cars. It’s not just EV’s. It’s all cars. But I would agree, EV’s might be struggling a bit more because of price.

    Sorry but it’s a bit over dramatic, Sam. Seems in general all new car sales are in a slump because of market conditions. US dealers seem focused on max profits and losing sales due to over pricing, in effect, being their worst enemies. Of course, there are exceptions as to brands and models as to sales. But Hyundai like other OEMs that make fossil fuel cars seems to be struggling with difficulties as to marketing. The Kona EV is invisible due to zero ads, the other EVs from Hyundai/Kia have distribution issues as well as competition from Tesla. It’s nothing new in the cycling of car technologies. Thanks.

    Locally built ioniq 5 was killing it last year in Indonesia, then Chinese ev makers try to flood the market with way cheaper Evs plus the tariffs on importing ev cars is gonna be removed, making even locally build Evs more expensive then those fully produced in china. It's scary to be in Hyundai's position really. As they have invested building ev car plants, battery factories etc.

    Lucid's current problem is reputation and bad strategy. People won't buy a brand that is executing badly and about to go bankrupt. People won't buy a $80K Lucid when they can get a $80K Tesla Plaid. It bad strategy to make something that Tesla is already making - you will lose. instead Lucid should do what Rivian is doing: Build a traditional looking truck. A more rugged styled SUV. Commercial Van. Passenger Van. No sedans. This is so obvious.
