Exactly. Me too. I drive both an EV, a BYD Atto 3 and an 8 year old KIA Sportage diesel which has been meticulously serviced and is working really well. I have to keep the KIA for a little while longer but it will be replaced for another EV, maybe the new BYD Seal U when it arrives later this year or maybe 2025. Hate the stench of ICE and know how damaging it is to everyone regardless of politics. These fumes are carcinogenic!

The Biden administration's original proposal, released in April 2023, would have cut EVs’ mpg equivalent by 72% in 2027. Automakers will have more time to comply with U.S. fuel economy requirements after the Department of Energy approved a final rule on Tuesday that slowly reduces electric vehicles’ fuel economy equivalent rating by 60% by 2030. The final rule allows vehicle manufacturers to sell many more gas-engine vehicles through 2030. Ocean temperatures hit a record high in February 2024, with the average global sea surface temperature at 21.06 degrees Celsius (69.91 degrees Fahrenheit), the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said on Thursday. The United States remains the global leader in crude oil production with 18,000,000 barrels/day. The rule was a victory for ICE, not BEVs.

Let them procrastinate as long as they want . Legacy auto dipped their foot in EVs and it's painfully obvious they will try to wait for a better battery to come out. With coveted 500 mile range and at affordable rate.
By that point Tesla will dominate sales and have charger infrastructure to handle the influx of new cars.
They will make Netflix profit from charger subs alone.

    • @jimthain8777
      @jimthain8777 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

You're right, at least for most of that.
Where I disagree is in the idea that ICEs are getting much of a reprieve, never mind a "victory".
Most of the "end of ICE production laws" are set well past that date when most people will have already switched over.
In fact fears that they might be wrong have prompted several governments to push that date of those laws further into the future.
I (personally) don't think they have anything to worry about.
Those laws will only force a few stubborn hold outs to change late at a large cost to themselves.
So if these laws won't force people to switch, what will make that happen?
In two powerful words: Fuel prices, will make it happen.
I don't foresee any long term downward pressure on fuel prices for the remainder of the ICE period. (now to 2035, theoretically)
The price, right now, is above the 20 year average, and is likely to, at the very least, creep upwards from this point on.
(Depending on circumstances, it could also see times of dramatic increase.)
So if you're fossil fuels you're looking to ride that horse (fuel buyers) hard until it drops dead.

@@drivingforcebehindu Lucid Air claims 520 mile range, but not what most describe as affordable. Stellantis claims their new EV platform will get 500 mi range as well, not yet in production to my knowledge. I would say legacy auto talked about dipping their toe and decided to spend less money lobbying government to extend the lifetime of polluting ICE cars as that was easier than competing with hard-working motivated farsighted Tesla.

The biggest thing that will "force" people out of gasoline and diesel vehicles; will be the price of those fuels.
The price of fuel is higher than average in North America right now, and I don't see it taking any long term price drops.
In fact I expect prices to trend upwards throughout this decade, here in Canada, and in the USA.

a fuel efficiency of 13 mpg, over 250,000 miles, the muscle car would consume approximately 19,231 gallons of gas (250,000 miles / 13 mpg).
Using the average CO2 emission rate of 22.4 pounds per gallon of diesel, the total CO2 emissions would be roughly 431,477 pounds (or 195.7 metric tons) of CO2. I think quite a lot of people like to have 20-30 minutes for themselves in the morning before thinking of problems that should be solved during the day.

I am not perfectly well read in the laws, but I have read a bit and I'm open for contradiction here, but it might take on this is that it's a congressional issue for setting mandates like this, so I think this is overstretch and if Republicans win this fall or in the future or even with the current makeup of the house, it seems very possible that the EPA could be limited here by a congressional law that says no modifies this heavily

I went to a nba basketball game yestaday with family and grandkids . We parked in a parking garage and the stench of exhaust is at high levels as i looked over at my grandmids young lungs and wonder what damage is occuring as there parents and the rest of the participants are just oblivious .
Its funny for how many complain about a clean air fiture . It makes no sense across the board .
Trump if elected will reverse these actions . He did was president . He also brought a law suit against california on strict vehichle emissions regulations .
I understand sam doesnt want to be political but the fact is one side is for the other is against and if the political sides change after a election than policy changes .
If biden is reelected the electricification process will continue and if high democratic majorities are elected it will further be acelerated . If the opposit occures than the process will be greatly deminished .

And coal produces more actual “pollution” than all of the other sources per kWh…by an extremely wide margin. Their coal-based power generation has increased steeply since 2000. In fact, _it has increased by over 300% in that period of time._ So, today China’s coal generated electricity is four times what it was in 2000. If you drive an electric car in China you are…in effect…driving a vehicle that is primarily powered not by solar or wind or clean burning natural gas, but by good old-fashioned, black lung producing coal. Not to mention massive fly ash toxicities comprised of organic pollutants, heavy metals and radioactive elements. *_Green revolution indeed._*

@@justinr9753 The interesting thing is, subsidies really haven't mattered much to date. I'm sure they've helped in US for the few cars that actually qualify, but most EV's do not qualify and subsidies have only been around for 18 months, not counting the very early subsidies that expired a long time ago. Growth was good before and after. Globally growth continues in all countries whether they have subsidies or not. The thing that will really help is the free fall in battery prices. Last year they fell 40 percent this year they've already fallen 19 percent. CATL, the largest battery maker in the world, says their batteries will sell for $56 per Kwh by the end of this year. That's half of what batteries are currently selling for. At that price EV's will be cheaper than comparable gas vehicles.

The main reason governments are mandating electrification of passenger vehicles actually relates more to global political agendas than climate concerns. As it turns out, ICE passenger vehicles only contribute at most 7% of all worldwide carbon emissions (reference Harry's Garage channel on TH-cam discussing this subject for further details). So this brings up the crucial question of "why" then are governments focussing on passenger vehicles and forcing electrification on consumers? The answer is quite simple ... it involves World Economic Forum (WEF) directives to ensure long-term human sustainability but interestingly these (directives) are heavily influenced by China and its own CCP objectives. In essence, a global dependence on fossil fuels is being exchanged for Lithium and Cobalt ... and you may have already guessed it but China controls over 80% of all mining/ processing of these two critical natural resources (in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile). This vehicle electrification program shifting global energy dependence is just one of several maneuvers instigated by China to be in a position, as the CCP has stated, thereby "offering the world an alternative form of governance and economics" by 2046. As is the case regarding many political topics in life ... things are not quite as they appear on the surface!

5% for ICE cars and 4WDs is still in place for most places of origin that are not exempt countries / subject to reduced rates.
EV's do not pay petrol taxes, there is GST on electricity - but I have spent less than $250 over 24,000 km of driving on electricity with the GST on that less than $23.
The luxury car threshold (when you start to pay LCT) is $89,332 for EVs and $76,950 for other cars.
If you salary-sacrifice an EV there is no fringe benefits tax (under the LCT cap) If you are on the top tax rate and get a $60,000 EV that's an additional tax saving of $12000 taxable value / $5600 net cash in the pocket for the life of the lease.

It would really be nice if Sam understood reality. At 3:50 he talked about particulate pollution as being carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen oxides.
    A. None of these are particulates
    B. Carbon dioxide is NOT a pollutant, except in the heads of totalitarians who want to get rich and make you miserable. (Yes, I know the IRA designated it as a pollutant. That's my point.)

You can’t compare Europe to the US as you love to do. In Europe cars were built for most of the roads built by the Romans and for various reasons mass transit became a very well established system. In the US roads were built for the cars. Next to no real mass transport in most areas, and far more miles driven per year by drivers than in Europe. Regardless of so called regulations from agencies not constitutionally allowed to dictate, only the market will determine what people need to drive and want to drive. Makers always respond to their markets. The technology currently in EV’s is where Windows 3.1 was in 1992. Millions more chargers must be added also. Millions not thousands. Power generation must drastically expand, how? Costs must drastically shrink to allow average people to afford them and the overall EV vehicle life cycle must be extended well beyond 10 years. Most current EV’s will be off the roads after 10 to 12 years. The average US car is 10 years old today and driving daily. Many last 20 years outside of the rust belt areas. A final point also is that who knows what future energy solutions will be perfected over the next few years. Who says that EV’s are the long term solution. Nobody should. How’s that VCR, CD, Cable TV subscription, or LAN Line phone working? People aren’t stupid enough to think that Government knows how to solve anything. At least not in the US. It's ironic that more impoverished countries, like South Africa, which desperately need clean energy, are going to be left behind out of the EV world.
People are living in choking conditions right next to busy highways, around coal powerstations that should have been mothballed years ago, and on coal mining tailings, and their health is suffering as a result. They are the unfortunate ones that have to make use of state clinics and hospitals, where you get sent home with Disprin for cancer because the medication has been stolen and sold, the machines are not functioning or have been stolen and sold, there is no budget for machines or medication or treatment, the staff are under qualified and under staffed or on strike because cheaper Cuban staff have been imported, or they are simply disinterested because there is no discipline or accountability.
There's no light at the end of our tunnel, excuse the pun, our power provider has been corrupted into virtual bankruptcy, and we are living with daily rolling blackouts so we can barely make a cup of tea yet alone power EV's.
The government is still trying to work out how to tax those going off the grid with solar panels, inverters and batteries, since they rely on hefty fuel levies to line their pockets.
It's been estimated that all those who can afford it, will be off the grid totally in a year or 2, leaving only those who cant, or won't pay for power. So they predict the hell is going to be taxed out of solar.
Tesla has confirmed they are not planning on supplying here (even more ironic since this is Elon's birthplace), besides private imports, so we presume we are getting Chinese imports. The driving here is hysterically unsafe, we are averaging 2 accidents a night in our small suburb, if we see an EV, we are going to steer clear, we are presuming batteries are going to be less safe in Chinese cars.

A few years ago it claimed that any place that had standing water belonged to the government and was subject to EPA regulation. This EPA mandate is that level of power grab. It will be struck down, either in the courts or by Congress. Or by the fact that people in the coldest part of the US, which is significant, simply won't buy electric cars as they do not work in cold weather. Related to mandated vehicle electrification, two interesting points are worth mentioning. First, there are three major law firms in Washington which lobby our EPA to impose EV-related legislation. As it turns out, these law firms are partly funded by the CCP which undoubtedly intends to steer (no pun intended) new environmental legislation towards dependence on China (facilitating a huge demand for Lithium-Ion batteries and eventually Chinese EVs as well). Second, despite Americans being at times accused of arrogance, actually China's CCP clearly displays this characteristic. The CCP's ideology is based largely on their philosophy that "China is operating under a mandate from heaven to rule the world ... and not only does China have the right but also an obligation to do so". This is definitely an arrogant perspective and demonstrates a complete disregard for any other country's national sovereignty. In addition, China claims Beijing to be the world's "center of thought". Yet, if this were true then why does China continually resort to hacking our government/business computer systems (to gain valuable information and disrupt society), infiltrating social media (in efforts to influence American citizens), and outright plagiarizing products (such as Rolex watches, Gucci handbags, Lego kits, military equipment, numerous automotive designs, and even Disney cartoon characters)? Sadly, the vast majority of Americans refuse to recognize that China is engaged in what they actually call "the 100 year war" to gain global control using a wide variety of covert and overt tactics ...
