My brother and I both bought the XM4 headphones within a month from each other. We were both impressed with the sound quality and liked the features. Just after the warranty both $350 headphones failed to charge. Now they are just $350 wired headphones with ZERO features. Both headphones were never abused always put back in the case and never tossed around left in a hot or cold car or left on a charger for hours on end. I don’t think I will ever buy Sony headphones again if they don’t last. This wasn’t just one and done. But two headphones having the SAME ISSUE at the SAME time. I think my money is better spent elsewhere! * To make matters worse, nobody near me will repair “broken” headphones out of warranty. I was told “usually when headphones break people just throw them out.” $350 throw away junk. Perfect way to describe Sony headphones.
Rn watching/listening to this w my Sony WF1000XM5's. Got them for Christmas from my mom. Money is tighter than usual this year but she still gave me a very much needed thing that I have wanted for LONG. I love you mom. MERRY CHRISTMAS GUYS
Interesting that the AirPods Pro2 needed slightly more treble/brighter/alive sound. Having bought these I agree BUT the remedy is really easy to sort! Go into 'ACCESSIBILITY' these an AirPods setting. Once you've entered the Audio Accessibility Settings, go into 'Headphone Accommodations' settings and you'll see 'Balanced tone' which is the default, 'Vocal Range' and 'Brightness'. Set it as Brightness and WOW the sound truly comes alive. Now I'm happy with the sounds of the AirPod Pro's 2. Not 100% impressed with the noise cancellation though but I guess that was due to the fact that I had headphones with ANC previously.
Brightness feels like the lower mids and bass disappear even if it brings up the treble. Overall, doesn’t matter how you EQ them, the driver on the AirPods isn’t as good. The only reason I keep my AirPods isn’t because of the Siri features.
One aspect you left out, for future reviews, is the activity comparison -- what do these feel like, how do they perform when you're doing physical activities (working out, running, etc).
Production Quality on this video was top notch. Been watching for years and can see such a huge improvement over the years, the graphics, shots everything just awesome great work to you and your team!
I also used to struggle with the fit en comfort of the air pods pro 2. The fix was turning them upside down while switching sides, now I sometimes forget that I have them in😊
I think we just grabbed those buds for shooting but all my comparisons were made with my personal pair. So all the info in the video still stands for me.
Also noticed that when the pop ups in the video appear, stating the topic/comparison he's going to go over, it would say "Xm4 vs Air Pods Pro 2" not XM5.
I agree with your conclusion, they play to different strengths. At work I would want the airpods since I'm being interrupted all the time, so having a great transparency mode and having something that meshes well with my macbook and iphone are things I would want for work. I'm not really enjoying my music anyways because I've got work to do editing videos. Now if I'm at home, I want to listen to that new soundtrack, a movie, whatever new CD I just got, or I'm traveling, 100% I would take the Sony.
Crisp and clear review. Ordered Sony XM5 after watching your video and really love them. Sound quality is awesome combined with great ANC. Foam tips needs getting some time used to, but I am happy upgrading from AirPods 2nd gen to Sony WF XM5.
How is the comfort during long listening session ? Do you do exercises with them, if yes do they stay in place or do they need some tingling while jogging etc ?
I got the XM3, XM4 and now the XM5. They have continued to get better every iteration. All of them still work great so there's always a back up. I've worn them for working out and hiking, they've taken a beating and still awesome.
How does the xm4 compare to the xm5 ? I lost my left earbud and considering the price of the replacement its not worth getting and may as well upgrade to the xm5
@thatoneguy9809 Honestly just go for the XM5 now. Much smaller size, great sound and fit and the battery is pretty good. These buggers are slippery and that's my only issue but after you've used them a while they get a little grippy. In my opinion they should have just did the soft matte finish everywhere. I use them all day at work and then on my way home i pop them into the charging case for some juice for my after work run. Sweat or rain doesn't bother them at all. I even accidentally submerged them in the bathtub.... don't ask... I forgot they were on... no issues
Did you experience any battery problems? Planning to buy XM5 since my airpods pro 1 stopped working and they said the cost to fix it is like buying an new one so its better to buy a new one but I dont wanna go with apple anymore.
Day 2 with the XM5s and they are already my favorites. The ANC is even better than Bose QCII and Airpod pro 2 so far and I love that I can connect to any 2 Bluetooth devices at a time. Battery life is fantastic! The only criticism so far is the ambient mode is not as good as Airpod pro 2 transparency. XM5s are still babies so this may get better with some firmware updates in the future. We'll see, but so far - I'm impressed.
Thanks for the info. Haven't bought them yet as concerned about the volume control tap four times. Seems a pain. Have you found it difficult or did you find a workaround? Thanks
I own both of these earbuds. The new Sony have impressed me more than any other headphones I have ever used. To my ears they are the best sounding earbuds out right now and iv tried all the new flagship earbuds. They are literally in a different league to the airpods pro when it comes to sound. It's not even close. Anc and transparency is much closer though and harder to call. Like I say the Sony's have absolutely blown my mind with their second to none sound.
My xm4 after new update needed to be reset, twice; o First, reset each, one at a time in the charger. Then reset both in the charger. Now they function fine.
I have been using regular AirPod 3s, since I can’t stand IEMs, but I was oh so close to giving IEMs another shot during Prime Day. The reason why I hate them so much is because they really irritate my ears, and I can also hear every step and breath I take, not to mention chewing when eating. This dates back to the wired headphone days, when things were even worse due to “microphonics.” However, these days with ANC, IEMs seem to be a requirement. I was scouring around during Prime Day, and just when I was about to purchase a pair, I noticed that Amazon has their new Echo Bud 3s that revert back to the semi-open design (ala AirPod 3 style). And they are super cheap to boot! I couldn’t resist, and jumped on those instead. I am actually extremely impressed with them. They are super comfortable, and the bass is amazing! The best thing is that I can still hear my environment around me when I’m out and about.
I’ve got the Sony WF-1000XM4’s. The sound quality is great but they are not very comfortable because they are so big in the ear. Anymore than say an hour of wearing them and my right ear is starting to hurt. I’m hoping the XM5’s , which are meant to be 25% smaller, will be more comfortable?
@@som3ascope196 I bought em and they fit alot better than the XM4, I cant run with them but for that I have another pair. For biking to work and walking they are fine. Im pleased except that the price is outrageous.

The only buds that didn't discomfort me for more than a day was the Samsung buds 2 pro ! So little i could sleep with it !
I've tried 2 generations of the Sony buds, and they'd be my favorite of they had regular silicone ear tips. The foam tips wouldn't keep it in my ear, and the foam came off the plastic one lining and stuck in my ear. I've never had that with silicone tips. I asked Sony about compatible silicone tips, and they doubled down on the foams. I returned them shortly after buying.

Definitely see why you have a a huge following. XM4 I just couldn’t seem to get a comfortable fit. Far as noise cancelling I thought it was brutal. Think fit was the issue. Just went all apple was android forever. Wow very impressive how everything just works. AirPods Pro are amazing

i had xm3 and xm4s and after 2 years they both just gave up. battery started draining rapidly, they were connecting to my phone even when they were in the case and so on. i love sony, but im considering airpods, just because i want pair, that last longer
Good review. Seems like for every day stuff and casual listening the Airpods are the way to go. For more serious stuff and longer sessions (like on an airplane) I'd probably use over the ear headphones, as those should provide quality that that no earbuds can match.
I love all of Sony's audio products, my last wh1000xm4 lasted me 5 years, my previous WF 1000 xm4 now have only about an hour of play time because they've been charged so much, how is the battery life for these?
Yes but the Sonys *come* with foam ear tips. You don't have to buy them separately. I had to bc none of the XM4 tips fitted my ears (had to eventually get customer made 3d printed silicone tips for the XM4s but apparently the XM5s have XS tips and a different material so hopefully that solves some issues)
Great review! I watch alot of reviews and you gave me everything i wanted in the right amount of times for each thing and great quality video! Including cut aways! Well done thank you!
Would you recommend the Sony's for work from home and office use? That is what's separates them for me, is the ability to have my iphone and Laptop connected at the same time.
Something to bear in mind if you like a clear and neutral sound stage. Sony prioritises base over clarity and no amount of EQ tinkering will make the sound as clear and natural as then AirPods.
I don't find a reason to use sony buds because if I prefer usability, I would choose Galaxy Buds 2 Pro for my Galaxy phone and Airpods 2Pro for my iPhone. I can tell with confidence that both of their sound quality is good enough for most people. If I do prefer sound quality, I can just simply go for Sennheiser if I want clear and calm sound or for the Bose if I want more bass or dynamic sound. I would only choose the Sony if my phone is Xperia. I even think JBL has good buds as well. Sony buds are just a hype imo. Last year's 1000xm4 were never close to Sennheiser momentum series when I compared them.
I like sennheiser but their earbuds are too bulky for me looking like a Frankenstein specially the case. the stealth on the android side is the galaxy buds.
Thanks so much for the video. I have been torn on which of the two to purchase. I will be going out today to purchase the Sony’s! I’m subscribed now as well! ❤
Aaaand he gave in the end his own opinion with respect to which one he would choose/gave a conclusion. How difficult was that? So many contain creatures fail on that... Therefore respect, good job 👍👌
Thanks for the reviews, I'm much more understand the ability of sony wf1000xm5. I don't know what to buy either airpods pro2 or sony wf1000xm5 but in this video I totally go for sony.
The only bummer I have is that it is not compatible with Find My feature for iPhone. Only Androids. You’ll have to buy the AirTag and a case that fits both the case and AirTag and worry about switching the battery every now and then
Im surprised we don't get foam eartips in more big-brand earbuds (or a least the option to get foam instead of silicone). They add both comfort, extra sound blocking and a more secure fit. After i've tried memory foam eartips, im never going back, and thats why im probably going to get the sony earbuds. Silicone eartips just remind me of old wire headphones from the 00's and seem so outdated to me
I have them both (got the air pods pro 2 when it came out and just got the Sony this week for 200 bucks 😁) my verdict is the Sony is objectively better. The air pods are a good every day throw on headphones, especially for walking around town on the sidewalk etc. But for anything outside of that, the Sony are better positioned for. You don’t really lose on features or flexibility or ease of use with the Sony. It’s just the foam tips for sound isolation makes it a little more stuffy for crossing streets and having sound awareness around you. Tbh you could just get after market ear tips that aren’t foam ones but you’d definitely loose some of the noise cancellation ability. I will note though the AirPods are better at cancelling out higher frequency noises than the Sony (like voices). But in the lows (like humming or rumbling), Sony is king.
This was a very helpful review and helped me choose the Sony XM5s. ISSUE: they feel like they're going to fall out at any moment as soon as I start to move around. Before these I was using my Jaybirds which I got for long runs and walks but they have the winged nibs so they were always locked in. These are my first pair of high-end earbuds so perhaps it's something I just need to get used to. Is that the case or do I just have crazy-big ear holes? I switched to the size large nibs and that helped some but they still feel insecure in there. Any advice here? Should I try silicone tips or maybe Comply foam tips?
Totally normal! I had to wear them for 5 weeks before getting used to it ! Don't use bigger tips ! It will hold less !! Trust me i tried too!! And it irritates more too so pls reconsider! It's foam tips ! So it grips better! Try shaking your head ! Like hard ! And if it does fall you can stay with the size of tips your using ! (I recommend trying the smaller one to the bigger one ! If it stay still with a little it's ok ! At least if you don't have the impression of hearing the outside with noise cancelation!)
I haven't seen your content in a while but I'm liking what you're doing with the format nowadays; very casual and it closely follows your channel direction of an average consumer, which is nice. Good job mate.
I bought a pair of Sony link buds s but they had a connection problem with my iPhone. They were super comfortable though I wonder if these are better. AirPods hurt my ears
How can you compare these 2 I have the AirPods gen2 and they suck sound like dollar tree ear buds I need bass and mids they have nothing completely flat was thinking of getting the Sonys or the beasts studio buds plus what do you recommend for the deep and mid bass lines ??
Ordered the Xm, getting them in few days. I'm ditching my AirPods Pro 2nd generation after a year of use because the MUSIC quality is just not enough. I want to feel the music I listen to. Hope Sony did a better job
@@nolxst i switched the default tips to silicone once and yes, the music just same a million times better. The noise cancelation is a BIT worse than the AirPods pro2 but the music quality just makes it worth it
The first Apple AirPods with the tips caused me severe itching of my ears. I had to give them up because of it. I read online that others had the same problem. I never found any mention of it by Apple. I lost a lot of money on those AirPods. This time I’ll pick the Sony’s.
I’m wondering about the longevity of these earbuds. I had my AirPod pro gen I for three and a half year now and it start to noticeably decrease in battery and right earbud start to have a vibration noise, but I’d say 3 and a half years of everyday use is a great bargain for these earbuds. I would like to switch to Sony but doesn’t know if they’ll last. Has someone has experience in these and can advise? 🙏

Why is this his guy so smooth? Making me want to buy everything when my fridge is empty.
The best review of the XM5... You've got a new subscriber
Great content bruh. When they drop to $225 or so I'm a scoop the Sony joints. My APP will hold me over until then.
Definitely see why you have a a huge following. XM4 I just couldn’t seem to get a comfortable fit. Far as noise cancelling I thought it was brutal. Think fit was the issue. Just went all apple was android forever. Wow very impressive how everything just works. AirPods Pro are amazing
Great review, crazy that I might have seen you only once before. Great quality and fun personality. Subscribed!
I returned my XM4s and went with the Linkbuds S due to comfort. How improved is comfort on the XM5s compared to the 4s?
I have both and I'm not sure which one to keep.... your right when it comes to music listening the Sony's are next level but for everyday use the airpods are just so convenient. Great video 👌
I’m trying to buy one I’ve a iPhone can you suggest which one I should get I’m a clg student I do travel on bike from time to time with music on as for plane I don’t I need it for everyday use
I don’t get it why is the pods better for every day use?
thanks for clearing up the spatial audio doesn't work on the iPhone
i had xm3 and xm4s and after 2 years they both just gave up. battery started draining rapidly, they were connecting to my phone even when they were in the case and so on. i love sony, but im considering airpods, just because i want pair, that last longer
Dude, your vibe is so much better than mkbhd’s. Down to earth and super chill, I’m your new subscriber.
why compare them, bc they're black? lol wtf
The best thing I was able to do to make AirPods Pro work for me was to buy some foam eartips. They have never fallen out once I made that change.
Great review, i love how sony keeps upping their game! keeps the earbuds market competitive.
Thanks for making my decision! Convinced me to take the Sony! Can’t wait!
Love the Sony design and if Sony can do their thing and make great sound experiences.. at least I can easily go back to Android someday
Love the 2nd Gen AirPods without the silicone tips.
Would you recommend the Sony's for work from home and office use? That is what's separates them for me, is the ability to have my iphone and Laptop connected at the same time.
Do you know if these will get notification while using iphone
Something to bear in mind if you like a clear and neutral sound stage. Sony prioritises base over clarity and no amount of EQ tinkering will make the sound as clear and natural as then AirPods.
Those arent even the air pods pro 2. The case is right but the pods themselves are the pro 1
Ik, he is testing the wrong product lol
Oh man. When did you break 3 million subs??? Haven't been here in ages. Congrats!!!
What about for side sleepers, would the Sony touch controls trigger when lying down?
Good review I like it :) 👍🏻
Thanks so much for the video. I have been torn on which of the two to purchase. I will be going out today to purchase the Sony’s! I’m subscribed now as well! ❤
Are you satisfied with that choice?
Aaaand he gave in the end his own opinion with respect to which one he would choose/gave a conclusion. How difficult was that? So many contain creatures fail on that... Therefore respect, good job 👍👌
Thanks for the reviews, I'm much more understand the ability of sony wf1000xm5. I don't know what to buy either airpods pro2 or sony wf1000xm5 but in this video I totally go for sony.
Jud using those first-gen AirPods Pro in the second-gen case for this vid 😂
The only bummer I have is that it is not compatible with Find My feature for iPhone. Only Androids. You’ll have to buy the AirTag and a case that fits both the case and AirTag and worry about switching the battery every now and then
Great video man! Thanks for the review.
You've got quite a nice David Yurman collection there!
Your reviews are awesome!
I tried both from friends and got the Apple usb c version, with latest update the sound is subjectively Apple for me
Im surprised we don't get foam eartips in more big-brand earbuds (or a least the option to get foam instead of silicone).
Thank you for the review!
If the Sony case was just a bit slimmer for perfect fit in the 5th pocket, I'd definitely have those instead of Airpods Pro 2.
Am new to Sony do you recommend them
My AirPods whistle when on transparency mode. It’s terrible and they run out of power to quickly. I hope these are better.
Hopefully they have a better battery in the Sonys. I have the previous version and after a year it wouldn’t hold a charge
I had the xm4 and waa gifted the USB c pods even though im on android. I didnt know the 5 existed but im stuck with them and theyre not bad
Ordered the Xm, getting them in few days. I'm ditching my AirPods Pro 2nd generation after a year of use because the MUSIC quality is just not enough. I want to feel the music I listen to. Hope Sony did a better job
how are they? are they better?
@@nolxst i switched the default tips to silicone once and yes, the music just same a million times better. The noise cancelation is a BIT worse than the AirPods pro2 but the music quality just makes it worth it
Are they louder? The xm4s were not as loud in my opinion
The fact that the sony’s have a foam eartip to perfectly fit is insane to me since sometimes my AirPod Pros sometimes slips and falls out my ear 🫠
You can’t buy the beige replacements ear tips
SONY FAIL WITH THIS RIDICULOUS
@@rich495 😯
The first Apple AirPods with the tips caused me severe itching of my ears. I had to give them up because of it. I read online that others had the same problem. I never found any mention of it by Apple. I lost a lot of money on those AirPods. This time I’ll pick the Sony’s.
I own the Sony and the noise cancellation is really poor if their tips don’t adjust really well to your ears.Lot of people is having this problem.
Watching this with my OG Linkbuds contemplating buying tbe M5s
The XM5 battery actually lasts 12 hours on the buds alone if you have LDAC, transparency and noise cancelling turned off.
Am i Tripping or @ 3:21 is bro using the airpods pro gen 1 ? If its wrong my bad.
Nah you’re right
I’m wondering about the longevity of these earbuds.
Did you buy the sony?
Thank you so much for the review!! Amazing 😍
The best sound quality earbuds I’ve used are the Japanese Final Made ZE3000
Which one for bike riding or running?
Greets from Germany! My feel ist that american Tech-TH-camrs are far more better in bringing things to a point. The Video was really helpful. You saying that the Sonys are for the people that just sit and want to enjoy the music was the moment I made a decision.
Even as an apple user, I will go with the Sonys. Because I just want the best experience. Apple Features are cool but I could not stand the feeling, that I dont will have the best possible sound. :D
Thank you!
How is this when lying down in bed sideways? Is it any more comfortable than the airpods?
I've got an android and am looking for the best earphones for the gym , so the loudest sound / bass possible with decent noise cancellation, are these the best on the market at the moment?
