I'm nearly 50. I've had a slice for over 30 years. I fixed my slice overnight easily when I saw a video that showed me why my club face was opening. It's not anywhere near as complicated as these fixes. On the top of my back swing I was bringing my wrists back to try and add more power. So I was opening the club at the top of my swing. Easy fix is to take your left wrist and lock it straight on the back swing. As if you're throwing a straight jab. That stopped me opening the face and overnight my slice was gone. Since then I've watched pros at the top of their back swing and they all have their wrists straight at the top of the back swing. Try it. Hopefully it gives the same results I got.

Replying to my own post so hopefully someone sees it and it helps them. The game is much more enjoyable with a more reliable swing. Bring on the fades people. Enjoy your golf. It'll save you a fortune in golf clubs as you won't be bending them round your bag😂

i've just started playing golf again in February, hadn't played in over 10 years because i was so busy working and didn't have the time. I used to crush the ball straight off the tee back then, but now have been battling a massive slice issue that sort of comes and goes. Last week i was straight and long, but now hitting tee shots 50 yards right and short. When i was swinging it well last week, it was like i was bringing both arms straight backwards, away from my body and keeping my left wrist flat, keeping the club face closed....but for whatever reason i can't seem to replicate that swing now. It's driving me nuts and like you mentioned the game is so much more fun and enjoyable if you are hitting it straight off the tee

I had been struggling with a slice on my driver for the last several years. I hit all my other clubs well, but I dreaded stepping up to the tee. Nothing was working for me. I watched this video and something clicked. No joke, this 8 minute video fixed my slice. I have only missed 1 fairway in my last 3 rounds and I now feel confident stepping over the ball when I am on the tee box. Literally changed my game. Everything is so much easier when you aren't playing your second shot from the deep rough or behind the trees. Not to mention, I have saved a small fortune in golf balls. I have told at least a dozen people to watch this video and your channel in general and will keep spreading the word. Thanks, Rick!

TLDR: 1. Strong grip and 2. Club pointing downwards - 3 times a week (50 balls each day). No slice for life. :)
I used to have a very bad slice. Sometimes the ball would go 50 yards to the right. I was struggling to keep the ball straight. To fix this I saw plenty of videos but none of them were effective for me.
This video however was a game changer. Within a week, I was hitting the ball dead straight. Go to the range regularly for 3 weeks (3 days in a week would be enough) and hit 50 balls with the following two techniques as suggested in the video
    1. Strong grip
    2. Club face pointing downwards
You would start seeing the difference from day 2 or max by day 4. Be patient, keep your head down and do the hard work. You'll be better. Driver according to me sets the mood for the entire hole, cuz its the first shot. It is crucial to get the tempo and the mood right early on in the game.

Why is my slice only with my longer clubs? My slice begins to appear around the 5 iron and gets worse the longer the club. I slice it very consistently 50 yards overall my swing per club is very consistent driver is 200 yards forward 50 right and 9 iron is always straight and 110 yards. If my swing is consistent should I learn to play with it or should I learn to correct it and potentially get more distance?

I used to play alot of golf in my youth, and was hitting the worst slices you could possible imagine. I took lessons and trained like a mad man to try to solve the problem but without any result. It got so bad that i actually stopped playing. That was 13 years ago! I saw your 4 other videos on how to fix the slice and decided to try it out on my farm. It went straight as a bullet, took my old clubs to the nearby golf club and went to try it out on the range. The results were magnificent! I kid you not it changed my whole view on golf, and i directly went in and bought a new membership as well as some new clubs. Been playing golf on a level that i, in the past, only could dream on! Thank you and keep up the good work!

All I have to say is WOW and THANK YOU! I have been playing golf for years with only irons in my bag. I can hit irons far and straight, but slice my driver hard 100% of the time. Recently I took my driver and wood to the range to "work" on my slice. I ended up slicing the entire bucket of balls trying all sorts of different things. A few days later I stumbled on this video and figured it wouldn't hurt to give it another go with these tips. First hit went completely straight and far! I couldn't believe my eyes. A couple buckets over a few days and my slice is gone. My drive went from 190 yard average with my 4 iron to 250-280 yards with my driver overnight. Rick Shiels I can't thank you enough!

Recently picked the game back up after a few years off and relocating to Canada in 2019. Had lessons back in the north of England when I was growing up and played a lot throughout my 20s. Best I got up to was a bogey player and shot an 85 as my best ever score.
Just a note from Vancouver to say thank you, Rick. I’m a new subscriber and have been watching a lot of your stuff over the past few weeks, in between range visits and a few rounds!
This video made me realise I had a weak grip and was slicing my drives (rather than what I thought was just a natural fade). A simple tweak using these tips and I’m hitting straighter and longer - at least 30-40 yards on my drives.
Appreciate this video is two years old, but the advice is timeless. Keep up the great content and thanks for helping me fall in love with this great game again!

I've had an awful slice for YEARS to the point I'd hardly hit my driver at all ,and when I did, I'd use the "aim WAAAY to the left Kentucky windage shot and hope for the best!...I'd use a 2 or 3 iron before my driver. I watched this video twice and just got back from the range. After less than 25 balls, I was driving straight as an arrow getting at least 200 yards! Exactly as Rick said, I started to hit to the left, then with a few more balls, I got the alignment right and BOOM!! There it was !! It also helped with my irons. Thanks a million!!!

Rick...I've been playing golf for 40+ years and i've always had a fade/slice that I've tried to correct with quicker wrist and/or stance, not much luck to say the least! I watched your video the other night and had to try a few things you suggested, placing the towel just outside of the club takeaway path and rolling the arms instead of the wrists. It worked liked a champ after a few tries with the driver, once I was used to it, I increased clubhead speed and throwing some power into it.....WOW! I actually think I was drawing the ball as the wind was right to left (im left handed) and I was hitting it straight as an arrow for the most part...this put a huge smile on my face!!!
Thank you for the great tips!!

The tip about moving the ball more towards the toe of the club quite literally fixed my slice instantaneously. I can't believe I've been slicing my driver for 15 years when the fix (at least for me) was that simple. I literally practiced this with about a dozen balls before teeing off for 18 holes today, and then confidently took the driver out of the bag and hit a perfect little draw on every hole... I couldn't even belive it. I can't thank you enough for this video and I'm so pumped I found the channel.

So just practice swing the motions to gain muscle memory. Then it wont be a matter of remembering the tasks.
For me, my slice was due to holding the club wrong. I changed up the posture and it started going straight, not thinking about it either. It might not work for everyone, but it's a good start.

You probably only need to remember a couple of these. For me it's the outside-in swing when I'm trying to really rip it(which is every time I hit my driver, lol), I'll subconsiously try to pull the clubhead towards me on the down swing to generate more speed. If you take the club away to the outside, you will swing from the inside, a golf swing is like a tight figure 8, not a flat plane.

Brilliant video, thanks Rick. I was working on this with my coach tonight on our floodlit golf range, before I saw this. He asked me to do a couple of extra bits but it still works. As a slicer he asked my to put my trail foot back 2 inches to open up the stance. Also to have the thumb on the right side of the club for the bottom hand. He also showed me the grip strengthening on the top hand. This all works. I used to be a drivers, hybrids and 3 Woods only girl, and try not to use the shallow irons. But my irons were good tonight. Thank you so much. 😃

@@AlexanderMacleod I started drawing/hooking when I started playing again since lockdown.
Got filmed at my last lesson and it ended up being that my swing was waaay too flat at the top, with the club pointing at about 10 o clock when viewing from behind (as in camera to facing down the range). Hadnt done that since I first started playing.
Took the swing back up high where it should be and kept everything else the same, instant fix and hitting it straight.

Went to the driving range with all this in mind and the video loaded on my cell phone. All this REALLY help and got rid of my slice !! I had a few that still went to the right but they were more of a baby fade than a slice. But the majority of my driver shots were more of a draw and A LOT STRAIGHTER !!! All of these tips I'd heard before and used but have never been able to fully fix my slice. Except for the second tip. I have never even realized it, but I cock my right wrist back as soon as I begin my backswing, and it was so noticeable when you pointed that tip out. It would immediately open the club face and unless I overcompensated enough with the other tips, it'd slice. So Mr. Shiels, you've done what no one could, my slice is cured. Thank you!
