Personally I'd like to see multiple factions within a sandbox environment, however, I do feel like CU's window of opportunity is going to be closed by the time it launches. We're not gonna have any shortage of games to play come Q4 2025.
No, kickstarter is just what it is. It kickstarts a game meaning if you like the idea then you take a risk in investing in it. If it dont do anything then youre at a loss, either take the risk or dont.
When the game is released in 2025, it will be as an Early Access title on Steam, but never as a release title. If it were so close to release, you'd have to start beating the advertising drum. And since the last news update concerned the user interface and is from January...I'm highly skeptical.
Personally, I can't say I'm excited. As an average gamer who works 45 to 50 hours a week, I hadn't even heard about the game until you mentioned it in your Star Citizen video. With that being said, it sounds like it could be nice, but I need convincing if they want part of my entertainment fund.
Wow, that's pretty interesting that you'd never heard of Camelot Unchained before. I remember when CU was "the next game" and then that become CoE, which became Pantheon, then COE, then Ashes, now we are on Pax Dei, AA2, Throne and Liberty, Chrono Odyssey, and of course waiting on the Riot MMO.
I feel like very few are actually excited about CU anymore but a lot of people have it on their radar so if it turns out to be a good game and generate enough early engagement to fill the servers to a playable state the game can succeed just due to mouth to mouth marketing and some streamers picking it up. If they don't generate the players on start, the game as an RvRvR will fall into the loop of "I'll not start the game because nobody is playing it" and just be a stillbirth. As for graphics, honestly I don't think it matters too much. Return of reckoning even as a private server is healthy, foxhole is doing fine and albion is doing absolutely fantastic. Better graphics gate you out of people with weak rigs, which can be a huge problem in low income areas. It's a tradeoff in my opinion to have good graphics, scewed towards graphics being the better choice if you can afford and run it but not as important as people make it out to be.
Well said about the graphics, but I think with the 10 series graphics cards being 8 years old now, I think the bottom floor of graphics is due to bump up
Do people want faction games..? Yes. Eve Online has been going since 2003 and is guild based but thousands still log in everyday. ROR is still going for free. They need to get the game to a playable state and fire it off..... I'm $400 in and a refund was never an option for me. I'm all in. If it fails, so be it. I just want it to launch. Fingers crossed (and have been for years).
I want you to look at what you just said... Do people want faction games...? Yes Eve has been going and is guild based. So, by your own statement, No people don't want faction games they want Guild Based Games. In Eve Online, when you did faction warfare, you didn't even need to sign up for your own faction.
@ParadoxGamingNetwork Funny how so many crowd funded projects have this shifting date...its always just a few years away. Yup, Star Citizen got me, too.
Btw. when I started another AA Fresh Start in 2018 I was thinking that Ashes releases soon and maybe I should keep my vacation for Ashes. But 3 AA servers later, Ashes is still not here
Ashes of Creation will go into Alpha 2 testing in Q3 of 2024 (if they make their deadline). Previously it was stated that Alpha 2 would be the longest testing phase but that was old information from a long time ago. You've probably had 6 vacations by now.
I have a 1hr screen recording of 'gameplay' recorded in 2024, i would like to make this available to you for your videos to show the current state of what is supposed to be camelot unchained. how can I get you the file?
these companies are so obsessed with selling customers the idea of epic scale battles when all that matters is reliable controls and satisfying mechanics.
Are you assuming the controls or mechanics have been sacrificed? I can't break the NDA to answer you and you certainly don't know the answer unless you're breaking a NDA already.
Ashes will be just that. Game concept is broken. Most people don't pvp. Yet the entire pve environment is designed around pve to pvp and back to pve. CU is pvp focused. Game play > graphics. Only casuals who play maybe 2-3 hrs a week will really focus on graphics. Graphics are far easier to upgrade. Big mmo's take years. Big mmo's from small studios almost never happen. I still think CU will drop, but with what actual goals are going to make it in.
Tragic problem with passion projects. I think Richard Garriott may have had similar issues. You invite your target audience - believers - to put in their money to contribute to your visionary opus. You frack it up. You mishandle the money. You break faith with your backers and they call you on the carpet. You fail to make amends because the money isn't there or isn't liquid to refund them in a timely fashion. You have to keep going back to work every day, not to build the dream but to eat another slice of ten-year-old crow. Now your vision is tarnished. Even if you manage to complete the project at this point, even if it succeeds against all odds, you know it will still be unworthy of your original ivory tower dream, and it's not because the market or the tech or the kickstarter failed, its because *you* did. Your dream is lame because you were, and worst of all, you didn't have to be. You chose to be. Hell of a dead goose to have around your neck.
vid is all old stuff graphically. But its still not near UE5 at all. But I hope CU will get good TriRealm Combat and Physically CUBE buildings to tear down in its final form. can't wait to see what they're cooking. Oh and Crowfall was come and go from KS. no problem it got forgotten. ^^
@@ParadoxGamingNetwork I would also guess max UE4. But I'm also more of the gameplay over Graphic side. If the Graphics is fitting and nice. Gameplay is what matters. Looking on game charts and see most of the now top 10 played games are over 5-10 years old. Not to say CU will Nail the Game Play. But for me this will be the thing if it Fly or Crash in the end. not Shining Graphics.
The open-world paradigm perplexes me. God, trying to understand something out of the "Foundational Principles" is crazy. Verbose, full of jokes, puns, and self-hype. How are they going to make a full-scale-open-world-rvr not interfere (AKA: avoid griefing) with building, crafting and pve-ing? Fortnite totally removed the building aspect, just to say.
Followed Camelot Unchained a while here and there. Liked that they wanted to creade a pvp driven game with many classes and sandbox (AA lover myself). However, Camelot Unchained looks just not good to me and that never changed. All the good ideas they had are worth nothing when the game looks and feels super outdated.
Although you can have a good game with dated graphics, I don't think in the era of Unreal Engine or RE engine (Dragon's Dogma 2) you can put out a game with dated looking graphics. New World looked great, UE 5 makes games look even better.
so i founded Camelot Unchained as u said during a time of MMORPG "Downtime". I hope it will be good,, but i dont have high hopes for the game even if it realises. Sad for the money.
There was a 4th of July weekend about 5 years ago? 4 years ago? That they were going to start Beta 1. I had nothing else to do that weekend so I was getting ready to back the game. Then, they said the NDA wouldn't be coming down. So, I paused. 4 or 5 years later, here we are.
I think I finally figured it out. Mark wants to create an ENGINE, not a game. He doesn't want to make just one game he wants to make hundreds. No way he was going to get funding for that pipe dream so he scammed people with Camelot Unchained. The idea is to drag people long enough to get the engine developed then showcase games like Camelot Unchained and that Ragnarok game to showcase the engines ability to start licensing it out. THAT'S how he is getting more funding these days. I don't want to play CU anymore. In fact I have blacklisted it and actively promote others to do the same. They are rebranding their company just in time for the next year release thinking they are going to get away with this. The internet won't let them. People that want refunds should have charge backed their accounts a long time ago. They are going to drag this out and get the release done as quickly as possible and then refuse refunds because they finally delivered. I would promote that you guys get together and file a class action and petition the Better Business Bureau. It needs to happen to punish this criminal behavior but you know it won't. People these days just roll over and get scammed and don't do anything about it but cry on forums they can get banned from.
Sadly, getting the Better Business Bureau involved is totally pointless. They are a reporting agency not an enforcement agency. They literally have no power which they will freely admit. Sadly, getting a class action lawsuit together will be equally futile. You can only sue a company for what they have, so if they raised 20 million and they have 1 million left, well the pot is only 5% of what you started with. Then, if you win, that 1 mllion will quickly become 600,000 since the class action lawyer is going to take 40% off the top. Sadly, the only way this ends is if all gamers stop backing all early access projects. Buy a game at launch and that is it.
@@ParadoxGamingNetwork Its true. We gamers could stop this if we just say no to kick starter funding at the beginning. But people want to hope and believe so they do by supporting kick starter games.
I've always hated the graphics over gameplay era, and thats for all games. I did play daoc and therefore I backed camelot unchained on kickstarter as soon as it came up, but I have to say, Im probably not even going to play it now. MMOs dont really fit into my life anymore, but I hope it will succeed 😀
I can 100% appreciate the gameplay over graphics perspective; however, a game in 2024 cannot look like something from 2004. Throne and Liberty may be entertaining when it launches in 2 months, but the truth is it looks so dated I doubt its going to catch fire. Graphics cannot make your game, but they can certainly break your game. Except Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk was saved due to graphics, just long enough for CDPR to fix the gameplay.
IMHO game play is more important than graphics. I don't trust MJ. He created DAoC but he also ruined it. When CU was announced I took a cautious stance but was hopeful somehow he would pull it off. After this long I don't really believe it anymore. At best I'll take the 'I will believe it when I believe it' stance. I would still like to see a RvR game like DAoC was. Not sure the younger gamers would like it though considering what they been playing last 10 years or so.
I think good game play is more important than graphics, but if your graphics look like the 8 bit Nintendo in 2024 you are going to struggle to catch an audience.
That's good feedback. Sadly I think with the era of 5000 series cards coming, people are going to be on 10 series as the "old" card and I don't see people paying top dollar or spending a lot of time in games with graphics from the 1990s.
@@ParadoxGamingNetwork Yeah. Only those that played Daoc will perhaps feel like me. It won't be easy getting new people in. So yeah. It will be hard when the engine they use is already very outdated.
@@ParadoxGamingNetwork I would say that a remake in Unreal engine which have been said to maby happen. That is probably the best chance Daoc has to get interesting for enough people to make it viable. I have seen Camelot Unchained and what that engine brings. And I am not impressed. And If me being a very hardcore player of Daoc some 10 years ago think so. Then it will probably not succeed unless it is done in a engine like Unreal.
I would say that a complete remake would not have to be that different from the original game. Just modernized and in a new engine and then i do believe it could get a lot of attention if done right. Dark age of Camelot had aloot of strong points. The PVE parth could absolutely be improved. But to this date in 2024. No game is as good PvPwise :D *Dark age of Camelot was not advertised well what so ever. No one except those getting into the game when i did probably even knew it was a thing. Daoc was never a big thing discussion wise. It was a very limited enjoyment for me and a selected few.
At the moment this game looks like a pre-alpha version: very bad graphics, bad controls and so on. I have no idea how Unchained Entertainment wants to release CU by the end of 2025 unless they work 15 hours a day (just kidding). Or they will release the game in “early access”, without an advertising campaign (a good start for an MMORPG requires a lot of money, UE doesn’t have it) and it will fail very quickly, without gathering a strong backbone of the community. In general, they were many years late. If the game manages to stay in the market, if it comes out, it will be an extremely niche MMORPG that will be played by as many people as Mortal Online 2. P.S. I'll keep an eye on the situation, but I'm extremely skeptical about the latest information regarding the release window.
Sadly I think CU and Fractured share many of the same flaws. Good concepts, long development times, missed windows, and now the audience has changed so much the market has shifted.
Indeed that's a major fear players have. It also is a major fear starting to affect the genre players. They get burned once, twice, a few times and then they say "Oh no, not another one" The sad thing is, many people are skeptical of games like Ashes of Creation, Eternal Tombs, and Brighter Shores because of being burned by Crowfall, Chronicles of Elyria, and a few of the other "older" before this time crowd funded mmorpgs.
Faction based games nit up to date? And people want more player driven sandbox games? You might be living in the wrong world. But times for games like UO or DAoC are over. Nobody makes a game for a handful of players, especially not an MMO. The masses in "massive" today are casuals. Not sweaty tryhards. Player driven game with always on PvP...... go ask Mortal Obline (1+2) how well that works out. Or Life is Feudal. Camelot Unchained releases in late 2025? This game and company still exists? I am impressed. I just don't see a big market for old school MMORPGs this time. Especialöy since you can still play many old school MMORPGs.
So a player driven sandbox game has nothing to do with constant on PVP. I'm not sure why people constantly equate sandbox to always on PVP. Player driven worlds can be done without always on PVP. While they certain can be always on, they don't have to be.
@@ParadoxGamingNetwork So? Name one. If you set barriers in front of players what they can or can not do, it takes away from the freedom of snadbox games. While many might think ots a matter of "reputation" among gamers to have, there is a small but very dedicated group that will use that "freedom" to drive out a significantly larger portion of players. There is this basement dwellking nerd speech "hurrdurr, just band together and put those bad apples in their place". But what for? So players have to drop what they are doing to chase bad actors that keep comming? To let them dictate the way you play the game? To not being able to play the game you want because the game doesn't protect you and respects your time, while there are ganes that do? Your view is really one sighted. There are games out there the way you question (low graphics, sandbox complexity), they are just NOT really popular. Otherwise WoW wouldn't have passed UO, EQ and DAoC combined in terms of player numbers in its first week of release.
You don't think they can build the entire game in 18 months after how many restarts. I find your lack of faith disturbing. Just kidding. I'm not Darth Vader.

Personally I'd like to see multiple factions within a sandbox environment, however, I do feel like CU's window of opportunity is going to be closed by the time it launches. We're not gonna have any shortage of games to play come Q4 2025.
Very true.
I think sandbox is the new vogue. Everyone wants it.
So...that's what happened with it. I wondered what was going on with my Warrior 2.0 pledge
Hopefully by 2025.
10 years later ? its a fake.
I have a 1hr screen recording of 'gameplay' recorded in 2024, i would like to make this available to you for your videos to show the current state of what is supposed to be camelot unchained. how can I get you the file?
You can email me at support@paradoxgaming.net and send the file that way and I'll take a look.

Can i also have access to this footage please.
on the biomes?
these companies are so obsessed with selling customers the idea of epic scale battles when all that matters is reliable controls and satisfying mechanics.
Kinda. I mean if you say epic scale battles, 50 vs 50 isn't going to cut it no matter how good the controls and the mechanics are.
Are you assuming the controls or mechanics have been sacrificed? I can't break the NDA to answer you and you certainly don't know the answer unless you're breaking a NDA already.
@@TripmasterG respect my authority
battlebit remastered has player counts up to 256 and runs decent
Yeah now the question is can they get to the level they want on CU.
100% spot on
Dunno, I hope it will. But it's been 12 years.
Yeah it has been a long time coming, if it ever comes.
he was upfront right away.
subbed.
vid is all old stuff graphically. But its still not near UE5 at all. But I hope CU will get good TriRealm Combat and Physically CUBE buildings to tear down in its final form. can't wait to see what they're cooking. Oh and Crowfall was come and go from KS. no problem it got forgotten. ^^
From what I've seen of CU, I don't think their custom engine will be able to replicate what UE5 can do. Maybe it can, but I'm not seeing it.
Fortnite removed the building aspect for the no-build mode in the BR, or did they actual remove it from Save the World as well?
@@ParadoxGamingNetwork I don't follow the game, sorry, I was just reporting the news I read back then. If something is wrong make me notice it.
Im crossing my fingers... im optimistic
Better cross your toes too. 2024/2025 is going to be big for game releases
This guy is the new Richard Garriot.....
so i founded Camelot Unchained as u said during a time of MMORPG "Downtime".
@@ParadoxGamingNetwork I doubt that NDA will be coming down with all the drama they caused.
Im pretty sure there's no one left mad at anyone criticizing the game
10 people who watched this video gave it a thumbs down, so clearly a few people care.
The EDEN Server DEV Team is working on a DAOC UnReal Engine 5 Update.
Screw Mark Jacobs!
that's pretty impressive that they are going to do a engine swap. Good on them.
5 YEAR DAOC VET ( MY GUILD NAME IN CURRENT GAME IS "DAOC" )
SAD TO SAY...GUILD WARS 2 WVW /RVR IS 10X BETTER AND MORE FUN...+ NO DUMB BUFF BOTS
FACT
Just refurbish Daoc… it was and is the best game of its genre!
The team that keeps a private DAOC server running is doing a port to UE5.
Using a webcam will always get a thumbs down
Ok? Then I guess don't watch?
I don't need a game that is good to have the latest graphics. Just better then the first game Daoc.
No game is as good PvPwise :D
*Dark age of Camelot was not advertised well what so ever. No one except those getting into the game when i did probably even knew it was a thing. Daoc was never a big thing discussion wise. It was a very limited enjoyment for me and a selected few.
I think most games from the past could be brought back to life with remakes, but that would take a lot of time with updating graphics to 2024 quality.
It's possible it may release but I've lost all interest to be honest. I'll take a look at DaoC Eden when it updates to Unreal engine instead.
A few people have said that.
Camelot what? Jacob who?
Buller? Buller?
You might not even be old enough to get that reference.
Fool me once. . .
Indeed that's a major fear players have. It also is a major fear starting to affect the genre players.
They get burned once, twice, a few times and then they say "Oh no, not another one"
The sad thing is, many people are skeptical of games like Ashes of Creation, Eternal Tombs, and Brighter Shores because of being burned by Crowfall, Chronicles of Elyria, and a few of the other "older" before this time crowd funded mmorpgs.
shame on them assholes for giving loyal DAOC veterans hope
Ouch
Name one what?
Since 2012, What to think? graphics, animation, it's very very ugly
Daoc was better
This project is a disaster...
Duke Nukem Forever is back
RvRvR will always be the best pvp, and the only offerings now are the sad state of live, and private servers run by morons.
I think RvRvR can be good, but I think player created content can be just as good if not better. RvRvR needs to have really good rulesets.
yes it will

"Do you believe it?"

You don't think they can build the entire game in 18 months after how many restarts.
I find your lack of faith disturbing. Just kidding. I'm not Darth Vader.
Hasnt been much news from UC or jacobs for a while, maybe he pulled the pin.
I hope not, but could be.
