WOW! Wow wow wow, whatcha doing? Don't power down your ship in space, especially if you leave it. Keep engines on, and just as important, shields! Weapon systems can be switched off (but that's disabling countermeasures, too), but never engines in space. Anything that crashes into your ship, will send it into a never ending spin that'll slap you back into the medbed when you try and enter it. Keep engines on to have your ship stabilize and counter any spin that may be imparted on it. Especially in operations like these, a few boxes or a Vulture bumping your Caterpillar can send it into a deathly spin if you're unlucky. As for shields, the amount of times a random NPC spawn nearby started attacking my ship while I was EVA is off the charts. If I didn't have the shields on, my ship would've blown up so many times before I could've gotten back into it. Now, powering off engines and shields in space does have a use, lowering your signature, depending on circumstance it can make sense. But not with a ship the size of 4 barn doors, you'll detect that, systems on or off. If you're in a singleseater, especially stealth ships, it can be very fun to just drift, turn engines on, change direction, engines off. I've had a blast doing that while bounty hunting.
