    Great video! Only one disagreement. I'm a 99% forehand player. When beginning, I understand the thought of understable discs to learn proper form. Just like backhand. However, the disconnect is learning proper form as you go. If we all waited to have form from either side, we probably would have quit by now. I started with over stable discs. Then as my form and knowledge improved. I then went to understable discs to learn how to hyzer flip a disc. If I had started with unstable discs I would have quit by now. If you're off just a hair there's no telling where you disc is going. VERY frustrating, which is why I believe most people give up on their forehand. Because I had gained some form with overstable discs, throwing understable wasn't as frustrating. I now keep a few understable discs in my bag for flips and flexes. I hope this makes sense. Oh and never serve the pizza.

    @kif1re 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    One thing, I've struggled with is proper wrist motion, combined with grip. I can't find a grip and I can hold on to effectively and not do the serve the pizza thing, to get it to fly relatively ok. If I try to use my wrist more the disc just super goes nose and wobbles like crazy. Rotating my grip for the wrist motion to lower, I feel like I don't have a good grip on it at this point and I find myself just literally dropping the disc a good 30% of the time.
    Any one else struggle with this concept that has a bit of advice combining the two? I do have small hands, wrist and finger strength issues. But yet my backhand doesn't seem to suffer because of those, As in I can launch a hyzerflip a solid 380+ on the course. But yet my forehand, I'm struggling to get out to the 100ft mark with any sort of accuracy.

    Please try to keep in mind that you shouldn't be throwing full power shots with a hyzer flip. Doing so strains your elbow and the longevity of your sidearm/forehand will be drastically shortened.

    Pretty good tips. I’m forehand dominant. I would only nit pick a couple of things. One is starting with Neutral mids. Too many people will struggle way too much with them and give up early. I suggest 6-8 speed slightly overstable discs. Servo is my top pick. The other is the wrist flick at the end. That should be happening as a result of the rest of the kinetic sequence being set up properly. If you try to force it, you’ll probably end up turning your discs over a lot and missing lines left.

    Great video! If my shoulder didn't scream at me on big power drives, I would definitely use the forehand more. I use it for scramble shots and approaches when needed.

      @JustDisc  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks chainraider, always nice to hear from you!
      Not that this is the case with you, but lots of players trying to forehand don’t utilize their lower half as well, straining their shoulder (my dad is a good example).
      Part 2 should help clarify the use of your body, and who knows, it might help! 🙌

    Never been able to throw forehand, always hurts my shoulder when trying, I’m 59 and was a plasterer for 25 years so shoulder pain is now common, but I’m totally ok with the back hand throws, so I’m really going to follow these steps to see if I can improve 👍

    • @JustDisc

      Hope you can figure something out that works for your body. Honestly, try the throwing the baseball idea and skipping a stone across water.
      Best part about the whole “throwing like a baseball throw” is that it not only teacher you the correct arm and wrist plain, but also teaches you how to engage your lower half 👍

    • @kevinmoehring8259
      @kevinmoehring8259 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm pretty 50/50 between backhand and forehand but my forehand goes a good 75' further than backhand. It's interesting that it's your shoulder that feels it most. Whenever I feel soreness or fatigue from forehand, it's a tennis-elbow sensation or even in my chest muscles, like I was doing pec fly's. I'm not a pro by any means and you know your body best. That being said, whenever people hurt their shoulder I tend to think that their elbow isn't close enough to their body when throwing which adds a ton of strain to your shoulder socket. Try focusing on leading with the elbow and keeping it tight to your body and see if that helps!

  • @JinGalactica

    IDK where I heard that but someone else on youtube said to LEAVE a gap for forehanded throws. Just now learned you don't leave any and been throwing a whole lot better.

    • @chuckwalla123
      @chuckwalla123 ปีที่แล้ว

      leaving a gap is generally terrible. However, there is a sort of "trick" where if you do leave a gap, and you have a decent grip, you can get a pretty decent distance with just snapping your forearm and wrist. The disc will pivot around your fingers just before leaving and you can get noticeably further with a small arm motion. I only mention this because I am prone to shoulder injuries. I used to throw exclusively forehand till I injured my shoulder. I could throw about 350 forehand. Now I just use my forehand for 200' upshots or less. gripping with the gap let's me get 200' with almost no shoulder motion at all.
      edit: if you try the leave a gap for harder throws it will wobble like crazy and you'll lose distance quickly.

    Great stuff here, one of the best pieces of advice being the hat tip to Scott Stokely on not serving the pizza (a must watch). Looking forward to part 2. I'm consistently and accurately throwing 350 to 400 rhfh looking for the breakthrough. Guessing some of it is foot drag and since coming back building a forehand callous is a thing which creates hesitantcy on grip using tape or what not.

    I’m having issues with nose angle. Most of my forehand shots leave the hand nose-up. Haven’t figured out what’s the cause of it. Any tips?
    Throwing forehand uphill in an anhyzer is definitely the worst. 😬

    • @JustDisc
      @JustDisc  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the video we discussed aiming at the ground about 20ft out. Kind of like skipping a stone across water.
      Did you ever do that as a kid? And if so, did you ever get any multiple skips in a row? It’s pretty much the same idea.
      If that doesn’t work, literally try to throw at the ground 20ft out. If you end up hitting the ground, who cares, since it’s at least teaching you the opposite feeling of throwing high. From there, hopefully you can find a middle ground 👍
      Hope this helps!

    Biggest thing that helped me was to slow it down and not try to throw hard. If I throw at like 75% power and do a slow walk-up, I can get a pretty smooth release and a decent flight. Soon as I try to go beast mode I throw an unintentional forehand roller or spike hyzer into the trees. It takes me a lot of focus to get the release angle right.

    No matter how many grips I tried, no matter how many times, not a single one worked for me. My fingers are always in the way. The only grip that worked for me, that is consistent and fairly reliable, is when I don't use fingers at all. I throw the disk like you would throw a CD disk, just smash the disc between your thumb and middle phalanges of the index finger. I doubt this way can achieve any impressive distance, but hey, at least using forehand is fun now, I guess. 🤷‍♂

      Honestly, best way to start (the way I did as well), is with standstill approach shots. Obviously you can go to a field and practice standstills, but it’s also great to just start using the forehand when just outside of the basket.
      As you begin to recover shots, you’ll gain more and more confidence the more you do it, and in turn, you’ll find yourself approaching from further and further as you get better 👍
