    I just started forehanding the axiom paradox (5,4,-4,0), and it has opened up a whole new crazy hyzer late-flip turnover line that glides out flat that I can't really explain, but it's very unique. Basically I can lean out in the woods and throw a short backhand type shot with a flick. Neat!

    I’ve watched a good amount of videos on the topic. This is the first one that I think will actually get me feeling comfortable. For some reason it feels very awkward for me to throw forehand. But understanding the speed/stability vs throwing/spinning and when to release the disc seems to make sense. Can’t wait to get out and try it!

    This was so helpful. As I watched, I realized that I had come to this on my own but just didn’t think about it. I throw my Destroyer on anhyzer with a hard sidearm baseball motion and flick my Meteor basically from the hip and snap it out hyzer flip to flat. Much different motions. Thanks for codifying that.

    • @seanstreck2669
      @seanstreck2669 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Specifically extremely narrow/low ceiling tunnels that don't allow full flight of the disc. You can get a lot of pop on a standstill forehand that has you looking at your target the whole time rather than trying to power up a backhand with the opposite flight of said disc. Of course if you're good enough you can do both, but that forehand standstill is probably more accessible to an up and coming player.

    • @jlb122587
      @jlb122587 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seanstreck2669 i agree. Being able to pop a forehand heat in the woods is one of my favorite shots and most useful. Let the disc do the work

    Excellent presentation as always Discraft and Brian. I tend to feel like I’m doing something wrong, but I could never exactly pinpoint it. Your explanation of flicking vs speed and spin needs of each discs made me say “THAT could just be my issue”. I thought my release angles were just bad, but now you have me thinking that maybe it’s me assigning the wrong technique and power to the wrong disc.
    Much appreciated!

    Excellent video! I'm 90% forehand (except upshots/putts) and this clears up so many of the issues I've been having mostly because I use the exact same throw for any speed/stability of a disc. Thank you!!! I'd love to see a video on forehand throws with a putter off the tee. I've only been able to make that work by throwing an extreme hyzer.

  • @CasualRelief
    @CasualRelief 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So good!
    The Gator is my forehand disc. I can power all the way up on it and count on a low glide stable finish on massive flexes or power flat shots where it can't turn over. I also use it for approaches where the high stability at slow speed can give me tons of horizontal movement and really allow an an-hyzer at the right angle to pan out sliding to flat. If I need to stretch these shapes out a little further I throw a buzzz os.
    My next goal is get my over-stable eagle working consistently, i'll still flip it over if i'm not careful, I'll be thinking about spin over speed next time out.

    • @brianearhart6075
      @brianearhart6075 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The lack of proper warm up and recovery amongst most forehand throwers is scary. Pitchers pitch a complete game, but then they rest for 3 to 5 days and focus heavily on shoulder care. I was guilty of this early in my competitive career and paid the price for it. Do a nice dynamic warmup to get your muscles ready for impact, and ice/massage your rotator cuff and lats when you’re done. The best part about disc golf is that we can play every day, but the worst part about disc golf is that we can play every day.

    One thing to keep in mind as people try this is that you aren’t sacrificing clean form to change where/how the disc is released. You still get that “whip” type motion and nice lag then snap, even when throwing it higher like a ball. Important to keep in mind to reduce injury risk and get the most out of this technique.

  • @_x__q
    @_x__q 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Neat. Very interesting way of looking at this. I’ve been throwing forehand forever. This explains why I could never get an under stable disc to drive well and why it seemed to take no follow through at all on a midrange upshot.

For flat release I've been using Innova Orc, Gateway Apex, Innova TL3, Dynamic Disc Vandal, Latitude 64 Musket. For a low release I was throwing Discraft Avenger SS but it flew onto someones roof! New to the sport. Forehand is something I’m trying to work the kinks out of. Okay, the only take away I got from this was that there are variances in release points either high low, or quick snap versus later release. I’m too focused on your fast/overstable slow/understable. Does this mean if it’s fast or if it’s overstable or a “fast overstable” and vice versa.
