  • In this video, we delve into one of the most crucial aspects of the game: the forehand grip. Your grip determines the trajectory and control of your throws, making it essential to find the right fit for your game. While many players stick to a single grip they've seen the pros use, we're here to encourage exploration and experimentation.
We'll guide you through six staple forehand grips, providing detailed explanations and visual demonstrations of each. By understanding the unique benefits and potential drawbacks of each grip, you'll gain valuable insights into how they can enhance or hinder your performance on the course.
It's important to note that there's no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to grip. What works for one player may not work for another due to differences in hand size, comfort, and throwing style. That's why we emphasize the importance of testing and adapting until you find the grip that feels natural and yields the best results for you.
Whether you're a beginner looking to establish a solid foundation or a seasoned player seeking to fine-tune your technique, this video provides a comprehensive guide to help you unlock the full potential of your forehand throws.
Remember, the key to success lies in experimentation and finding what works best for you.

I am forehand dominant for max distance drives. 1 finger feels the most comfy for me I have a really hard time changing/trying new grips for forehand but always willing to try a new grip for back hand. My 1 finger grip is different than yours though I rest my middle finger on the bottom of the rim not tuck it like you showed in this video

Tried em all but it's the One Finger Grip all day.
Puts my wrist in a better position that promotes more wrist mobility, thus, theoretically, more Snap.
It also gives me smoother release, better distance, increased accuracy, and less wobble.
The One Finger allows my wrist to cock back significantly more than any other grip. Again...more Snap.
Being an ex baseball pitcher I thought for sure a 2 Finger would feel and work best, but I always come back to the One Finger.
Everyones hands are a little different tho, so trying each til you find what feels, and works best is a must.
Don't just try one throw and dismiss any of the grips. Try them all multiple times. I mean unless you feel completely comfortable with one of them from the start. Being comfortable with your grip, whether forehand or backhand, goes a long way towards bettering your game.

One of the reasons you guys are likely struggling with power and control with the 1 finger grip is you aren't pinching the disc properly. You seem to be trying tuck your middle finger. That's ok with a slower disc but for faster discs your going to struggle to generate enough power. What you should try doing is pinching the rim between your middle finger and thumb. You shouldn't even require your index finger on the disc at all to aim, it's only really there to generate power. This allows you to more directly put the power through the rim of the disc and it helps keep flutter to a minimum out of the hand.
Good to see locals putting out content though! If you're playing winter farms next weekend good luck!

Andrew Marwede is one of the best forehanders in the world and uses the 1 finger grip. I've noticed that most old school disc golfers laugh at the 1 finger grip and also can't break 250 feet with their forehand. The angle control comes from a tight grip. It's the most natural way to throw imo.

    • @JustDisc
      @JustDisc  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Do whatever works best for you, as the video states 👍. The split finger grip gets me up to 375ft, and the super finger finger around 350ft.
We get that Andrew Marewede uses 1 finger and has a solid forehand, so he’s the exception. But how many tournaments has he won compared to those with 2 fingers? Until he shows some solid results, we’d rather follow those who’ve had excellent success using 2 fingers.
It also just makes more sense to have more contact with the disc. But again, if it works for you, great! Keep it up 👍

@@JustDisc I'm roughly 2 years into Disc with a baseball background and 1 finger has always been my go-to grip for distance power. Can regularly hit 400-450ft with my 13 speeds. However, I have a huge problem throwing mid ranges. My 1 finger grip seems to impart a LOT of off-axis torque to the disc and everything comes out super wobbly. Have recently swapped to fan grip for mids (Wasp/Malta) and its changed my game. Side note: for the high-speed forehanders out there.. try to get your hands on a Discraft Crush if you can find one. The main issue I’ve seen with the two finger and the split grips are you get a lot more wobble because you’re imparting too much force in the off-axis direction (up into the flight plate instead of the side of the rim). You showed a lot of clips trying those grips with stable discs. Have you experimented with anything flippy? I would bet you have far less success with some of those grips when using less stable discs.
