    works great. i love that it has stainless steal pot inside th-cam.com/users/postUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and not the one with coating. we used to have a coated pot before, and the coating slowly peels, and i am sure went into the food that we cooked. Absolutely love stainless steel, and will not use a coated product again. This pot has many settings and many buttons, and i need to sit down with a manual to figure out which setting to use. I used the basic functions, and even though i am not technologically skilled, i turned it on and assembled it without any help.Very satisfied with this product overall.

    One suggestion, start by browning the meat (in batches) and reserve afterwards. This will create a fond on the bottom of the pot. When you add the veggies and liquid it'll deglaze and give you lots of flavour to your final dish before adding the meat back in and continuing with the recipe.

    Add tomato paste to pot before adding liquids and cook a little. It brings out the flavor of the tomato paste and enhances your sauce. Same when making pasta sauce. Leave one end, after opening, on the tomato paste can. Use it to push paste out cleanly.

Without question the best thing I have ever made. And like most stews, soups and casseroles, it only gets better with age as it works it’s magic in the refrigerator. As good as it is straight out of the pot, after a week it is at an entirely different level. A M A Z I N G!

  • @brilliantatbreakfast

    I would add a few things to this: 1) Agree with Craig Stephen below about creating fond. HUGE flavor difference in the meat. 2) Might need a bit of cornstarch slurry. 3) I would also add just a TINY bit of Kitchen Bouquet or if you have a Caribbean market or live in an area with a sizable Caribbean population (Publix may have it), a few drops of Grace Foods browning. Gives a really rich dark brown color. Pearl onions would be good too, but use the frozen ones. Fresh ones are a bear to peel.

    So I tried this tonight. I did one thing different and that is I browned ONE SIDE of the beef first for the Maillard reaction while leaving most of the meat raw to be cooked as per usual.
    The only suggestion I have is to cut the rosemary and thyme in half at least. Unless you really, REALLY like the taste of Rosemary. 1 tsp overpowers everything else.
    For those who think that 20 mins isn't enough time in the pressure cooker, the timing is perfect just as he describes. The carrots and potatoes were soft, but not mushy unless you mush them on purpose. The beef was the same. Not falling apart (which isn't good), but tender enough to cut with your spoon. Provides the perfect texture you want in your mouth.

    I made this for dinner tonight. I didn't have fresh mushrooms, but I had a small can of mushrooms in butter sauce that I added instead. In Australia, we do not have "au jus" so I hit google and found it to be the equivalent of our "roast meat gravy" so I added a pkt of that. Served it with italian crusty bread. It was sooo good & full of flavour. My dad isn't a huge fan of beef stew but even he liked it. Everyone else loved it and the whole pot was gone after everyone came back 2 hrs later and had more. I am definitely keeping this recipe. Thank you so much.

    Another suggestion, for people who don't like mushrooms (texture-wise), use dried mushroons and grind them up into a powder in a spice grinder to add tons of flavour. I love beef stew with doughboys on top though I don't use beef much anymore, it's become too expensive, so I use pork shoulder instead.

    Finally! You taught me well because I came up with my own recipe (since I couldn't wait forever) and it's very similar to yours expect I do it Cuban style using cumin and oregano. I'm going to add the flour next time and make it a little thicker. Your cookbook is invaluable to me! Can't wait for your next one!

    Bought one for my family and another for my parents as Christmas gifts. This stew was my first time using it. Followed to a tee with great success ! Wife and daughter loved it as did I. Took a batch over to my parents for their dinner tonight, then spent an hour with mom reviewing how to operate it, then giving her a TH-cam demonstration/tour of the Pressure Luck page. Watched more than 20 videos here prior to cooking anything which helped a lot. Looking forward to the rest of the Ohio winter full of good eating. You're the best my man, thanks Jeff !!!

    Hey Jeffrey;
    I know it's not a big deal. But, you made me laugh while setting up your Beef and Broccoli recipe. TH-cam went on to the next recipe in line. It was for
    beef stew. The line that got me was, "While you're waiting for the Instant Pot to do it's thing, take the dog for a walk, have a glass of wine......" I burst out laughing. You made my cooking session fun. Thanks.

    Folks who hate the texture of mushrooms, look for powdered mushroom on Amazon. Also called "umami powder". All the flavor, none of the complaining.

    Marianna - To answer your question about thickening the soup, throw in a half cup of rinsed barley. The barely releases starch, much like potatoes do.

    Well, I met the cutest girl in the grocery store who was making the EXACT same thing! No joke, we watched this video before heading to store to grab the items for it. Definitely kicking myself for not getting her phone number. Hopefully this beef stew is enough to mask the sadness 😅

      @@PressureLuck I know it sounds like a bit of a stretch. She was looking at the Wine rack and i walked up and grabbed a bottle of the pinot noir. She asked me if that particular one was any good and I said "no idea, im cooking with it though!" to which she replied that she was looking to do the same thing. Then she asked me what I was making and I told her beef stew! She laughed and said no way, im making beef stew. For a moment i thought she was just messing with me until I asked her how she was making it and she said in a pressure cooker! We started talking about how we found the recipe on TH-cam right before we had gone to the store. Thats how we determined it was the same recipe. Definitely some Hallmark vibes 🤦‍♂️😅
