Nicely done, congrats! Never dawned on me that the R390 GT1 road car gets even more downforce than the LMP's with a rear wing. Thanks for the shout-out as well, glad the guide helped out. The Impreza Spec C is hilariously good for sure, especially with full-powered NOS.
Thanks! Indeed, the guide helped massively in setting up the cars, especially with the R390. I was also massively surprised to see the "+30 front/rear downforce" logic work with the R390, since it already has adjustable downforce by default.
@@mrxbas Preach, brother lol. I can't sing his praises enough. I just picked up GT1 again in the last month, and his guide finally helped me understand EVERYTHING about the game. Hat's off to both of you, fellas.
As others said, it's impressive how well this video is made. Great pacing, good mix of gameplay and narration, no padding, good commentary that isn't obnoxious or has unnecessary jokes, and specially, no unnecessary drama (for example, trying to build hype for the last races). I came here to see someone try and beat a challenge, and that's what I got. I really like this style of commented gameplay.
Haha, although I must say that even for me, the road-going R390 was a handful to drive (as depicted in the video)! I must also add that TeaKanji’s GT4 guide helped a lot with setting up my cars, so I’d highly recommend checking it out; it definitely made this challenge much more doable for me!
@@mrxbas The main reason why it was so easy because you did the qualifying lap before actual race. Now, try beat the World Championship WITHOUT Qualifying (start from the bottom) and you will see the difference because you will be pressured alot to finish the race in podium spot (Top 3 position). I already beat this with Pagani Zonda C12S '02 with 66 points (12 points ahead from Peugeot 905) 4 years ago and I have 2 times 4th position on Paris due lack of control and 4th on Super Speedway due lack of Power (non-turbo, what do you expect?). Overall, this was my biggest acheivement to finish with dealership car only (no-race version). As for Used Cars challenge, it will be nigh impossible to beat because you need non-turbo cars and better power to weight ratio (no more than 2x difference) and you will struggle alot on long-straight section if used NA cars and corner section if you used Turbo cars. The best point I can get is 45 points (20 points behind Peugeot 905) with NSX Type-R '92 (early 90's showroom) and 46 points with NSX Type S-Zero '97 (same early 90's showroom). I wanted to see if you can reach 1st place on World Championship after you experiment alot which car can meet your own criteria.
There is something highly satisfying about seeing you get world champion and be able to, theoretically, literally drive home in the same car that you just won with
Naturally, the Nissan "Totally-street-legal-race-car" that's barely any different from its actual race-car spec equivalent (post-tuning), wins the challenge of "no race cars". I'd say it's pretty eyeroll worthy, except NASCAR exists and is a much larger farce of a "street legal/stock car" race than anything in Gran Turismo. Still, credit where it is due; that's a legitimately good performance that ended much more closely than I was originally expecting. Most GT "challenges" amount to "buy rice-burner, rush to get race-car rice-burner as prize car, win championship by a 3+ minute lead across all heats." So at least it wasn't utterly predictable as most GT content has been so far.
It was either this or the Viper SRT-10. Since this car was so stupid that it was miles ahead of the _actual_ R390 GT1 race car, the choice was quickly made. (I did address this criticism in my next challenge run, though.)
I'd tried to complete as much of it as possible in a Citroen Xantia which was my family car in early 2000s, that car's got funky physics on the front tires and it was bouncing around like a lowrider with hydraulic suspension lol

The WRX is so incredibly grippy and stable that it's overpowered for all but the World Championship. I think that setting the gearbox to 200-250 km/h will probably make the acceleration more broken than a fully-tuned Group B car...
Great video. You should definitely do a sequel to this, perhaps with road cars that aren't just road-going versions of the race cars. Could make the World Champs a closer contest!

Funnily enough, a fully tuned 400R felt slightly worse than a fully-tuned stock R33. For some reason, the 400R has a strange power band and seemed to have a slightly lower max. BHP, although it felt really good in the corners.
@@mrxbas The 400 R I believe has a huge turbo, which makes it lag in the low end. But they made up for that by balancing and tuning the suspension to perfection.. thus eliminating Godzullas weakness of being slow through turns. The R33 can keep up, but you have to basically do like the Quattro rally drivers use to do. Working the gas and brakes at the same time as the barreled through the turns
I absolutely love that people are still making content about GT4 and people are still watching it! Lots of people in fact! Emulation and community mods have breathed new life into this classic game.
@@mrxbas What is driving away people is the games as a service, micro transaction, always online. Games nowadays are made to be casinos disguised as games. I miss the times when games were games, you bought a disc and you had lots of content you just unlocked by playing. When Sony stopped being japanese we lost a lot in the gaming industry.
Absolute nostalgia. I should definitely get back into emulation. What controller do you use for the emulator and what emulator do you use? Great challenge and video by the way!
In terms of controllers, I use a standard XBOX One controller (as I'm really used to it now from playing Forza Motorsport/Horizon). And for emulation, I use PCSX2. The nostalgia is definitely a reason why I still play this game so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video as well!

Yeah, I remember Jimmy Broadbent's GT3/4 streams from 5 years ago and they were awesome, so I'd definitely watch it if he'd do something like this as well. As for the next run, I will probably start streaming it in a week or two, to make sure I don't get bored/burnt out with regards to the game.
I saw this video recommended to me multiple times and i just gave in now, i was fully expecting your channel to have more subs but goddamn this Production Quality, you got me hooked
Nice vid! At first I didn't even know whether to watch this just from the thumbnail alone, but oly when the video ended did I even notice that 35 minutes had gone by. While that may not sound well for my sense of time, it certainly does mean a lot for the retention on this video I guess. Good work!
finally someone that do challenges and dot cheese with wallrides, cutting corners or other dirty strat, it makes no sense to make a challenge and do those things
I'm not surprised you tried the R390 road car in the world championship. That's one of the few road cars in the game that could legitimately stand a chance against prototypes in this game because of how much downforce you can give it. Haven't tried it in the World Championship but I did have a good time running one in the Fuji 1000 km.
I have literally never played grand turismo in my life nor shown any interest in the series before But this video had me intrigued and enticed the whole way through. Very enjoyable
Oh hell yes R390 Road! I unronically beat the GTWC in Gran Turismo 5 using it, just because I didn’t have anything faster in my garage. Also, I didn’t know how to tune the car properly, so it hit the rev limiter at 250 kph lol. Still managed to beat the championship like that. Oh, the good memories this series gives us
Honestly, I went into the GT World Championship with only the softest tires. I didn't care about the extra pit stops, I could run on practically qualification pace throughout the races. Yes, I used to fall behind after the first pit stop, but it was just for 1 or two seconds, thanks to the extra pace advantage in the first stint. And being the AI not very aggressive, overtakes are easily done. It's a very aggressive strategy worth trying.
Haven't watched the video yet but i was really intrigued by this video, i managed to beat GT3 with a Dodge Viper, completely road legal which was insanely hard so i have always wondered if it was possible on other games, well done on taking the challenge.
Amazing video I'm definitely looking forward to more! The quality is awesome man you deserve so many more subscribers and hopefully this blows up (I found this recommend on my home page so that's a good sign for sure). Glad to see you were able to complete the challenge and it looks like a ton of fun got me wanting to try it out myself soon. Also to completing the game with used cars I mean it is *technically* definitely possible but certainly not easily or quickly obtainable; it's possible to get an all black version of some of the LM cars from the used dealer but they only appear on week 100. I checked the wiki for the R390 Road car and it does not appear in the used dealer
The Used Car Only event is actually doable with a used road car too, provided you’re very lucky with your car roster for the GTWC (although you must skip the Sports Truck event, but I’d think that’s fair due to the restrictions that event has)
finishing the tournament as Pendulum's Streamline is about to end fantastic Great video, I love seeing that GT4 is having this sort of renaissance, haha.
Yeah, the Pendulum song finish was quite coincidental but incredibly satisfying. I actually think that the mediocre player reception of GT7, along with a general interest in early modern racing games, is causing these games to become much more interesting to both new and "older" players now.
Challenge runs definitely do make replays of these games more fun. A few months back I started a playthrough of Gran Turismo 2 using only cars from before 1990, and although I haven't quite finished it yet, it forced me to step outside my comfort zone and try cars I'd never given the light of day before. Maybe something similar would work in Gran Turismo 4?
I grew up on Gran Turismo. My next door neighbour was 8 years older than me and introduced me to Gran Turismo with GT3. My family's game system was a PS1 still, so I had GT2. When GT4 came out, I remember distinctly the first weekend my neighbour hosted a all weekend long sleepover party. I have a terrible memory of my childhood but I can remember that weekend nearly in its entirety. The next spring I was given a PS2 and a copy of GT4 by my father. And now nearly 20 years later I spend most of my time and money on cars :D ahahaha I should really fire up the ol PS2 and play some classic GT4 for the good ol days.
24:48 Man, this would be such an awesome moment to see IRL too; a road car with racing mods on shredded tyres just pulling it out by the skin of their teeth? That would be legendary.
Glad to see my childhood game come to my feed in 2023, one of tge reasons i keep coming back to old games. Also if you want you can use some mods like adaptive gas n brake to controll them with ur triggers so it cant be 100% or 0% , gt3 chase cam etc
@@mrxbas thats tough man, they do really make a diff, though idk, the triggers still have a dead space till they activate, really excited for a remaking of the sounds in the game, truly one of the only things lacking from the game

When i saw this, i instantly clicked it. I played this game when i was 5 years old (2007 at the time) and i fell in love with it, and was the reason i got into racing and cars at the time. The nostalgia is flooding back
Fantastic video my friend and That elcap race brough back a memory of one of my favourite gaming moments ive every had. GT3 Laguna seca endurance race Me in the toyota GT1 Car and the lead AI in the team oreca viper (all other AI were just traffic) I had set my tyres quite hard to line up minimal pit stops, the AI had quite soft. The lead viper was smashing me every lap, gaining over 10 seconds by the time it needed to pit however those pitstops were very frequent. Half way through the race i noticed my last pit would line up with the last few laps so i needed to push my pits later so cut the last pit but still leave myself with half decent tyres for the last few laps. Having driven concervatively to preserve my tyres in the last quater I made it to the end of the race, my last lap was very slippery to say the least and i was fighting for grip. I turn the last corner to look in my mirror to see the viper pounce out around the last corner behind me. I finished the race only 1 second ahead, after all the racing and pitstop timing, changing lead countless times throughout the race, only 1 second in it Love these games, loved the video, thank you
Thanks! That’s why I love the longer races in GT4 so much, it suddenly becomes much more of a tactical game of pitstops and tyre strategies once you are forced to make at least one pitstop, especially when the other cars have different levels of tyre degradation.
A used car challenge in GT4 would require some ground rules, because if you're willing to wait long enough, some of the used cars you can buy include: -Nissan R92CP -Mazda 787B -Toyota GT-One -Nissan R390 GT1 Setting aside those four game-breakers, there are actually quite a few hidden gems among GT4's used cars, if you're patient. Some of the best Skylines in the game are used.

11:00 I love the censor noise you used, lol. Also, I really like this. I'm not usually into speedrun-style or challenge videos, but this was a bit more casual while still being fun and informative!
Haha, I always try to keep my videos profanity-free (especially these kinds of videos). It's a challenge to balance the casual viewing experience while not being too generic, because at some moments it's also nice to go into some more details!
"Nah, im not gonna use this 500hp Skyline, thats too easy.... Oh look, a Nismo 400R"
IMO it’s a bit of market fatigue too (Raycevick’s “I love racing games, they suck!” explains it all to well…)
@@mrxbas What is driving away people is the games as a service, micro transaction, always online.
You my dude have quite the taste in music, and skill in driving. Keep up the good content!
Thanks, I mostly listened to Drum & Bass during the racing. In fact, I had the entire Pendulum discography on during the final World Championship races! :D
Thank you algorithm for giving me this wonderful video.
Actually, I should thank the algorithm for showing this video to you!
Go play GT!
💙 I’m so glad I found this channel as well as Roflwaffle and DustinEden!!! GT has been an important part of my life since I was a baby. My father was a car enthusiast and GT was the first game I ever played!! I’ve played and owned every GT since!! Unfortunately my Father Orlando, took his own life in 2016, but playing GT and being a car enthusiast myself has always helped me feel closer to him 💙
I hope Jimmy Broadbent see this and tries something similar. Also I'm glad this video blowing up for you, you should definitely do another one like it.
Still got Gran Turismo 4 on the PS2, such an incredible game. It's the game that got me into loving cars, and racing. Thanks Gran Turismo 4.
It amazes me just how fantastic GT4 still looks
I saw this video recommended to me multiple times and i just gave in now, i was fully expecting your channel to have more subs but goddamn this Production Quality, you got me hooked
Thanks, glad to see the quality is as good as I hoped it would be :D
@@mrxbas My expectations have been blown out of the water not gonna lie :D
Nice vid! At first I didn't even know whether to watch this just from the thumbnail alone, but oly when the video ended did I even notice that 35 minutes had gone by. While that may not sound well for my sense of time, it certainly does mean a lot for the retention on this video I guess.
Good work!
Haha, at least I'm glad you've enjoyed it!
Please continue with this type of content! That was incredibly fun to watch!
finally someone that do challenges and dot cheese with wallrides, cutting corners or other dirty strat, it makes no sense to make a challenge and do those things
I'm not surprised you tried the R390 road car in the world championship. That's one of the few road cars in the game that could legitimately stand a chance against prototypes in this game because of how much downforce you can give it. Haven't tried it in the World Championship but I did have a good time running one in the Fuji 1000 km.
R390 is like the GT-One a pseudo road car.
I mean japan bend the law for the GT-One Road Car haha
First video I get recommended for you and it was a blast! Hope to see more from you! I think I'm going to try the challenge for myself.
Thanks! The challenge is a lot of fun, so I'd definitely recommend trying it for yourself!
i dont even know much about racing but i was tucked in the whole video - great watch
I have literally never played grand turismo in my life nor shown any interest in the series before
But this video had me intrigued and enticed the whole way through.
Very enjoyable
keep up the great work! you've got lots of potential!
Thank you!
0:23 Damn, this game is now 20 years old
Oh hell yes R390 Road!
It's a very aggressive strategy worth trying.
you win at the youtube algorithm. love the content
Thanks!
I love how clean you drive in this as well
I genuinely deeply enjoyed this watch! I can’t wait to see what you have planned for the next challenge and video
Thanks!
Video kept me hooked til the end, really good work, nice editing skills and video production. Keep up the good work
Thanks! I’ll make sure to keep the next videos in such a style as well.
That's some expert driving, very good challange and we want more
Haven't watched the video yet but i was really intrigued by this video, i managed to beat GT3 with a Dodge Viper, completely road legal which was insanely hard so i have always wondered if it was possible on other games, well done on taking the challenge.
Dude make more of these kinds of videos on Gran Turismo. Loved this.
Was very entertaining dude. I watched the whole thing literally:)
Keep it up.
Ps: nice drum n bass / pendulum tracks haha
Thanks! I listened to Pendulum for the whole second half of the World Championship run :D
I respect the grind. Cool video!
Thanks, it wasn’t as much of a grind as the next GT4 video, though!
Sick video! Keep going with car content, you are the best
Thanks, I'll do more like this for sure!
Your videos are really high quality good job, it felt like watching a million sub channel
The Used Car Only event is actually doable with a used road car too, provided you’re very lucky with your car roster for the GTWC (although you must skip the Sports Truck event, but I’d think that’s fair due to the restrictions that event has)
finishing the tournament as Pendulum's Streamline is about to end
fantastic
Great video, I love seeing that GT4 is having this sort of renaissance, haha.
Yeah, the Pendulum song finish was quite coincidental but incredibly satisfying. I actually think that the mediocre player reception of GT7, along with a general interest in early modern racing games, is causing these games to become much more interesting to both new and "older" players now.
Video popped up in my recommended, i had a feeling the name looked familiar! Took me on a trip down memory lane, Viva la revolución!
Much love, Xbas ❤
Thanks, we're indeed witnessing a retro racing game renaissance at the moment!
@@mrxbas Indeed, but i wasn't referencing that! An even bigger throwback to the CoR5 community we helped create ;)
@@TzarJek Oh yeah, I remember that time indeed! That was way too long ago for me to immediately recall...
I think it will work well in GT4 thanks to the large amount of pre-1990 cars in the game (especially Japanese ones like the R32 and old Silvias).
This video makes me realize how much of a masterpiece GT4 is! great video!
Great video mate. Glued throughout!
Thanks, I'm glad it kept you hooked :)
very fun video :) ive never intentionally watched a GT video despite being a big fan of the series so I'm glad i clicked on this
Very well made Video. It's been a while since I've watched a 30+ Minute Video so joyfully.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great jokes, good editing, entertaining video here. I can see it blowing up soon.
24:48 Man, this would be such an awesome moment to see IRL too; a road car with racing mods on shredded tyres just pulling it out by the skin of their teeth? That would be legendary.
It was surely an incredibly tense moment!
Glad to see my childhood game come to my feed in 2023, one of tge reasons i keep coming back to old games. Also if you want you can use some mods like adaptive gas n brake to controll them with ur triggers so it cant be 100% or 0% , gt3 chase cam etc
I’m actually using both mods in my latest playthrough! The triggers mod in particular is incredibly helpful with more powerful cars.
@@mrxbas thats tough man, they do really make a diff, though idk, the triggers still have a dead space till they activate, really excited for a remaking of the sounds in the game, truly one of the only things lacking from the game
finally someone that doesnt base their whole personality around a near 20 year old game they can barely play. jokes aside, im glad to finally witness someone that says GT4 is their favourite racing game and is able to drive like a regular person with hands, feet, and eyes.
This is great, keep it up!
Thanks!
Those battles with the Peugeot was intense and nerve-racking.
Amazing vid man, definitely had me super entertained! Wish the best of luck to you.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I'll definitely try to make more like this in the future!
i almost died laughing at 31:46 lmao 😂😂 best video I've seen lately. new sub
Thanks, I really couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what happened there!
Great video, just wish you had more videos in your catalog that were like this. Good luck with your YT growth. I'm subbed for more.
When i saw this, i instantly clicked it. I played this game when i was 5 years old (2007 at the time) and i fell in love with it, and was the reason i got into racing and cars at the time. The nostalgia is flooding back
Yeah, this game is still my favourite in the series (and by extension one of my favourite racing games of all-time).
Same
What a cool video, excellent editing and script :D
This was a really nice video you deserve to have more subs
You only have 2,1k subs?! Just by the first 5 or so minutes I thought you had like 7-8k. You have so much potential, keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words!
As a french guy, i love the fact that your pronunciation of peugeot is spot-on, not pewgeot, peugeot.
you deserve more subscribers. your content is absolutely amazing!
I appreciate the support! :D
Great idea for a video! Enjoyed it a lot, thank you
Fantastic video my friend and That elcap race brough back a memory of one of my favourite gaming moments ive every had.
GT3 Laguna seca endurance race
Me in the toyota GT1 Car and the lead AI in the team oreca viper (all other AI were just traffic)
I had set my tyres quite hard to line up minimal pit stops, the AI had quite soft.
I finished the race only 1 second ahead, after all the racing and pitstop timing, changing lead countless times throughout the race, only 1 second in it
Love these games, loved the video, thank you
Thanks! That’s why I love the longer races in GT4 so much, it suddenly becomes much more of a tactical game of pitstops and tyre strategies once you are forced to make at least one pitstop, especially when the other cars have different levels of tyre degradation.
A used car challenge in GT4 would require some ground rules, because if you're willing to wait long enough, some of the used cars you can buy include:
-Nissan R92CP
-Mazda 787B
-Toyota GT-One
-Nissan R390 GT1
Setting aside those four game-breakers, there are actually quite a few hidden gems among GT4's used cars, if you're patient. Some of the best Skylines in the game are used.
Really awesome video ! You’ve earned yourself a Dutch subscriber!
Bedankt!
5:08 your average speed in that slalom is great man, if it's me i have to do it over and over and over again to get gold on any license test.
The slalom test in GT4 is indeed notoriously difficult, especially since you have to do it twice (both with and without traction control).
only 386subs and such an amazing quality my man Im sure u can have a carrer on youtube
Thanks! That would be quite an outlook indeed :)
@@mrxbas I mean when I was watching the video I taught you have around 5k subs beacuse the quality and the idea are both amazing

Deserved too, love to see it
Wow, you’re so underrated,
Thought you had 500k+ subs
Ofc I subbed to you, keep up the good work!
I love turning Road-Legal Cars into Race Cars, and this challenge is just wonderful!
