    You two are a great tag team! I had a kidney stone removed about 2 years ago and the stone was not calcium but uric acid. Does that tell me something about my diet? I now am having issues with primary hyperparathyroidism and just had my bone density done (though I can't understand the report and will see my naturopath next week) I am trying to fix the parathyroid issue naturally and will be doing a study with the naturopathic college I go to because I feel there is not much out there and not many people know why they have issues in their body that they can't explain. I don't want the bandaid effect of just removing the little benign blip that they found on the lower right side parathyroid nodule (whatever you call it). I am producing more calcium and my doctor put me on the NFH Osteo SAP calcium which will help remove the calcium from my body because there is the protein in it to help this function. Thanks for all you do. It is great getting other people's stories and trying to figure out this jigsaw puzzle of a body.😁

    Could you please explain the issue with oxalates. Dare we still follow a plant based diet? Thank you for a great channel!

    • @HikingUtah
      @HikingUtah ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The issue is that the most common types of kidney stones are calcium oxalate stones. For people who suffer kidney stones, oxalates in the diet should be restricted. Unfortunately, meat doesn't have oxalates. Instead, all the health vegetables that we should be eating do.

    • @gunvormagarity-groves8005
      @gunvormagarity-groves8005 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many of us are in deep trouble now! I have very high cholesterol and take statins. This is why I was on a plant-based diet. Now most plants are out, no idea how to feed myself any longer! 🧐

    • @HikingUtah
      @HikingUtah ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gunvormagarity-groves8005 It isn't clear what the issue is. Are you struggling with calcium oxalate kidney stones? I would say plant based is still a good plan for CKD. But if you have calcium oxalate kidney stones, you may need to research lower oxalate plant foods.
      I understand the sentiment though. Between controlling my weight, preventing my diabetes from returning, CKD, kidney stones (uric acid and calcium oxalate), and gout, it seems like there aren't many foods I can choose from!

    Hello, my question for both of you is the following:
    What are the effects of ketoanalogues (KA) on chronic kidney disease (CKD)? Do they really help people with CKD?
    Thanks in advance! 🙏

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth
      @PlantBasedKidneyHealth  ปีที่แล้ว

      In late stage CKD (4-5), ketoanalogues used in combination with a low or very low protein diet (under close supervision of renal dietitian and physician) and in metabolically stable patients, have been found to slow GFR decline, protect lean muscle mass, and delay initiation of dialysis.

    Hi! I have Multi Custic Dysplastic Kidney. About, 12 days ago I went pee late before bed and my urine was reddish brown. And I began to pee red and more noticeable bubbles for two days. Five days go by and urine was completely normal. Clearing straw colored no bubbles. 6 days ago again, peed blood for 2 days and had multiple bubbles. Had urine sample done at my urologist, they said nothing about the proteinuria. They just told me I had blood in my urine. I asked if I should go to ER they said no. I have no pain, had blood work done yesterday… cat scan with and without contrast tomorrow. See my UROLOGIST Friday. I’m 26, 6’0 185 great blood pressure and don’t have diabetes. Workout 5 days per week and eat decent. Btw, they did not say I had protienuria

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth
      @PlantBasedKidneyHealth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out our videos specifically on oxalates, we have a lot of info on here! Oxalates are often not a concern unless someone has high urine oxalate levels. Dark chocolate is higher in oxalates. But usually for the small portion that would be consumed it is not an extremely high oxalate amount. Everyone has different needs though and there are other options that are lower in oxalate of course!

    What are the symptoms of kidney disease.

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth
      @PlantBasedKidneyHealth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately signs/symptoms of kidney disease usually don't manifest until late stages. But some common ones are swelling/edema, shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, lack of appetite, itchy skin. Getting blood and urine test is important for people at risk for CKD (Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Obesity, family history of CKD, over 65 years old) to catch CKD in earlier stages. We have an episode on this as well: th-cam.com/video/QKHUjP8YT3g/w-d-xo.html
