Dr Ro and James, both of you are God sent. Your information is so helpful and so easy to understand. I am so grateful to be listening to a Dr. for more than 15 minutes. I have also been going thru a lot of your videos. Thank you both for your time.

This video has helped me to "calm down" and be rational about my kidney disease diet. Trying to eat the perfect CKD diet has been stressful! Thanks for level-headed advice,
Just found out by looking at my lab reports I have Stage 3 CKD. Had a kidney stone 3 months ago, my urologist didn't tell me I had CKD; my primary Dr didn't tell me (both saw my labs). I discovered it myself. I'm beyond pissed that neither Dr told me!!!
My primary care doc and my cardiologist failed to notice on multiple lab reports--over a six year period--that I had stage 3 CKD. I just discovered it recently and confronted these docs as why they failed to diagnose, inform, advise or prescribe based on my lab report warnings (GFR was down to 35). I've been advised to pursue a medical malpractice suit. I did not know what eGFR meant until a few months ago. Now I am becoming educated.
@@bradypl12321 I had a similar incident. I was referred to a cardiologist after I insisted and after testing was told everything was fine. I returned to primary and was also I informed all tests were good. I logged into portal to get lab results and was shocked cardiologist diagnosed diastolic heart failure! Also I have CKD due to hypertension, the doctor never attempted to control my BP. I repeatedly asked for a referral to a nephrologist and was told my condition was not serious enough. Finally I got the referral saw the nephrologist and was prescribed new medicine to control my BP. I couldn't wait for 2023 to arrive so I could change my insurance and physican. Hi Dr. Row and James. I love your videos. They’re so informative today. I walked 3000 miles. I don’t know if that’s enough but I have stage 3B kidney disease and I’m wondering how much I should drink water coffee, etc. and how much protein in milligrams should I be eating a day?
I am pre-diabetic. Eating pasta would cause my blood glucose to spike, so I have not eaten a pasta (rice, potato, bread) meal for 5 years. I still have a spoonful (and enjoy it) when I cook for others but never a full serving.

What confuses me is that many of the kidney organizations that contradict each other. Most say avacado is not recommended. But you say it's great. Examples like this a lot. My husband is 87, but extremely fit, a life of professional dancing. So he has great BP, not diabetic, but now, very bad kidney problems. I have switched his diet, drastically. Kidney organizations discourage seeds, p nut butter, beans, you see where I'm going. And......his protein in the urine is very prevalent. So I hesitate to give him any protein. He is so resilient. I know we can improve his numbers. It doesn't help that we don't have a car, live very far from medical facilities, so it's up to me to help him. Jaynee Peters
I agree - many sites push a Stage 5 or Dialysis diet, which has a lot more restrictions. The best diet is one that is individualized for your husband. A renal dietitian can make recommendations to get you on the right path, and some are available online. To manage his protein, his doctor may want to use an Ace or Arb - cutting it from the diet isn't the answer (it's about finding the right AMOUNT for him, and red meat protein is the toughest on the kidneys due to how it impacts them and red meats impact on the bodys PH balance). Depending on his health, potassium can be protective, it's only limited when his doctor or dietitian says it should be (when the kidneys are unable to manage it). I know this makes it even more confusing, but there really isn't one diet that works for everyone. His labs are the roadmap to what he needs to eat, and a renal dietitian is an expert at reading labs and letting you know.

that is a tough question to answer. Controlling your A1C is helpful for your overall health - which in the end helps. Unlike managing blood pressure, managing blood sugar does not have as much of a positive impact on your current kidney health. Whereas getting your blood pressure under control can result in an improvement in kidney health, that usually is not the case with blood sugar. But the key to fighting kidney disease is focusing on your overall health - and managing your blood sugar will help in the long run. I hope that makes sense.
