I am looking into a assisted braking device.
I have seen 3 I'd like to try mammut smart, edelrid jul2 and the black dimond pilot.
Will only be used for Indoor climbing.

Tried them both. Both work great depending on the weigh difference between partners one is easier to us than the other.

Just bought the Pilot and love it, wondering though why do you think BD left that gap in the plastic at the bottom (Where the carabiner could slip though) rather than making it solid plastic all the way through?

Isn't it great! Yeah that plastic gap is a thing. The only reason I could think of is that they are trying to keep it light.

My guess would be more for ease of cleaning (or lack of gathering crud). If it was solid at the bottom them you'd have to fiddle with clearing any possible buildup out of there...or, if you happen to drop it in the mud, imagine the pain it would be to clean out whilst at the crag. With this design you could run a rag/t-shirt straight through to clear it out.
