    I had a Plaid for almost two years now. All these pimped up cars that go vroom vroom mysteriously quiet down when they see me. Biggest whiners I have seen are Porsche drivers.

    • @vref45
      @vref45 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I'm not sure why they would whine. Porsches look better, they are faster when used for what they are designed for (road courses), and they are way nicer to drive. Anyone driving a Porsche could certainly afford a Plaid if they wanted one. Face it, the only thing the Tesla does well is accelerate fast...If that's you thing great but take the Plaid and Porsche to a road course and you will see just how bad the Tesla really is to drive.

      Drag racers feel extreme shame losing to an electric after pouring so much money and blood into their ICE. Doesn't help them that they all talk poorly of electric just to get their ass beat so badly by a stock family sedan.🤭

    I’m surprised that so many people here don’t understand why the gas burners don’t want to race the EV’s. Call it “ego” if you want, but much of the fun in racing is the win. Andrew obviously likes winning too. Many of these guys pour their souls (and wallets) into this traditional gas sport not just to race but also to win. They see gas vs EV’s as apples vs oranges. To them, it’s like a scoped rifle entering a bow hunting contest.

    Best race of the night was you and Roger! Perhaps you 2 should have a rolling best of 5 races each week! It sure seems to come down to 2 things, who gets traction first and DRIVERS SKILL! Rather watch you 2 race than have you pull to the line and the ICE car either refuses or let's you go and follows 10-15 seconds after you trip the lights! BTW, CarWow just released a race with a Plaid against the newest 1250HP Koenigsegg $4 million dollar car and a 380HP motorcycle! Everyone should get a smile out of that! It is truly amazing watching a 4 door 4,000+ pound Plaid waste almost everything out there! Wonder what ever happened to the Lucd Saphire that was double the price of the Plaid but NEVER see one at a regular track day! You would think SOMEONE would get one out there to simply get their video wins monetized! But your track analysis and conversations really make your videos WORK! 😀

      Lucid started taking reservations for the $250K Sapphire on August 23, but the announcement only said that the delivery would be "Summer 2023", and I have not seen any announcement saying that the first one had been delivered to a customer. So I don't think that they are out there yet. And secondly how many people who spend $250K for a new car want to take them right away to a drag strip? I'm guessing that we see the first Sapphires on a drag strip sometime in the next few months.

    • @awo1fman
      @awo1fman ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The thing is, when you have video you can pretty accurately measure the time anyway.
      I really don't understand the mentality. If you ever make a serious race everybody's going to know your capability after that - word gets around quickly - and if you never make a timed run why are you even there? Even if you have one of those in-car devices, they aren't very accurate or reliable. Not enough to be of any use if you're just testing and fine tuning. They're fine for a cheap way to get a ballpark idea, but the way they work with accelerometers and GPS just doesn't have anything like the accuracy of the track's equipment.

  • @zo6logan
    @zo6logan ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can you explain how to not deap stage so we could learn ?

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When pulling up toward the line, go very slow to light just the first (top) “Pre Stage” bulb. Then creep forward VERY slowly until the second Stage bulb is lit. Just barely “tickle” that light. That’s shallow. The wheels can go another 14 inches forward until fully “deep”. Shallow has more benefits than deep, but the driver must be careful and consistent.
      Many Tesla guys will rush up to the line in an effort to get Launch Control started, since it takes 9-10 seconds, during which the green light usually comes. But that hurry can prevent the proper shallow staging. Launch Control is good for about a tenth of a second, but poor and inconsistent staging can cost much more than that in Reaction Time, or worse, a red light.

      Thankfully not at our local dragstrips. This kind of stuff is the rare outlier. We have over 1730 Tesla time slips now, and we know most of the 'regulars' at these tracks. Even *SAM* (from a certain YT channel that has over Billion views) loves the Teslas. We chat about them every time we bump into each other at Bradenton, which is right next to the Freedom Factory. But we rarely include him in our videos, because we aren't 'name droppers' that way. (Do you see the name of his boss here? Never. Not even when we bump into him and ask to race, which has happened more than once.)

What we presented here is an accurate depiction of the night with context and very little personal commentary. Maybe they don’t wanna race because they already know you have over 1,500 passes and the car runs within 2/10ths pretty much everytime. Maybe they just want someone that literally doesn’t know how well their car is going to run, until it actually makes a pass. What’s your widest margin? 9.2 to 9.9 with lower charge? Same as the Dodge Demon and many of the cars we race. We talk to the other owners, most street legal drivers use a “tuner” shop to do all the work. Surprisingly few have ever turned a wrench. (“I don’t have the tools or the skills” they say, and we don’t show it in our videos because they were nice enough to race us.)
      That aside, there are different seasons of life. Having built engines in my teens, I know the personal satisfaction. But once we’re older, and backaches from leaning into an engine bay all day is no longer viable, then simple reliability becomes appreciated 👍
      One can buy a 10-to-11-second Corvette, Redeye, or GT500 and rarely do Viewers point out that the drivers require “no skill” to own or drive them (Traction Control, Launch Control, auto trans, etc)
      We’re enjoying our Teslas that have done 1730 dragstrip runs without an issue. And no more backaches! 😃
