    “Throughout the entire portrait painting process you are making choices. Some are going to be good choices and some are going to be bad choices. That’s just the way painting is. We are ultimately aiming to have more good choices than the bad and that can only really come from practice.”
    I needed to hear this. Your video and teaching are excellent. I learned more in this video than I have in many I’ve paid for. Thank you and good luck on your painting journey!

    You're very kind for making a video this detailed. I sometimes like the sketch too much I'm afraid to ruin it with paint but this has inspired me to actually sit and practice gouache portraits... Also I'm usually lazy because pencil sketches are way faster than setting up all the painting supplies and I'm very impatient 😅

    I've been learning and practicing painting with gouache for maybe a year now, by myself, just like I did with pencil portraits, and when I see someone more skilled than me doing the things I learned on my own, it really makes me proud, like "oh my god, I do it the right way." When you picked up that lilac gouache, my eyes widened with recognition!

    I love getting to see you mixing on the palette, I feel like that is such a crucial element that often gets left out. It's part of the process. In art school I often wanted to make pieces from the chaotic palette leftovers more than showing the actual painting I was working on. Your work is gorgeous.

    Haha my painting professor would throw a fit if he saw your pallet. Honestly that is how my process goes too, my pallet tends to evolve like yours, not super organized (I tried to make sure the prof never saw it haha). I really appreciate watching your process. I took an oil painting class so I know a lot in theory about painting and color mixing, but I honestly didn't practice a whole lot during the class. I don't have a pallet for my gouache paints so I was really frustrated with the mixing part. I'm gonna try to make more portraits over winter break this year, and get a new pallet! I'll be thinking about your video. Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you so much for sharing your approach, this was so thorough and informative! I found your channel a few months ago and was really inspired to try my hand at gouache portraits after watching some of your videos. I'd love to see more videos with the mixing palette since it really does help give additional context to each piece. Excellent work as always!

    I started to learn more about gouache and saw many people using it with very thin layers with water and then using the thicker paint, but I noticed that you start straight with the thick paint, it’s really interesting! I will definitely try it this way and see if it works best for me! Thank you!! 💗

    • @emhuesart
      @emhuesart  ปีที่แล้ว

      I sometimes start thinner, but other times I dive right in with thicker gouache 😅 I'd love to hear if you end up enjoying that technique! 😊

    Oh my, what is not perfect? It’s beautiful and perfect. Art if not hyper realistic it should be an impression, an expression, a symbol. What’s important is to capture the likeness, the mood, and the spirit or personality as much as possible, not exact…. You highly talented and skilled. Thank you for all you share.❤️
