I have played MTG for 20 years and I didn't even know BGG existed until about one year ago when I started playing other board games. And nobody of the hundreds of MTG players I know uses BGG to track their plays. It wouldn't even make sense, we play every day between online and paper.
You said cult of the new early on and then you ignored Heat -- uh oh. 😁 I will have to look at Forest Shuffle. You make it sound interesting and I have ignored it until now. Great vid! And great idea for a top ten, far different than other board game channels I've seen.
BGA and yucata plays can now be easily imported into BGA through the BG Stats app. But yeah, I think you'll see many more plays on BGA compared to BGG, since not everyone will use that app.
Agreed, all of the top 10 (except Magic) are available on BGA and I just assumed they're getting logged from that. Ark Nova has been the #1 game on BGA for a while (somehow).
I got 8 points!, Hit Ark Nova, Azul, Wingspan, and Terraformign Mars on the head! No other points though. What a fun video! Very creative and loved watching this one. Interesting way to think about it from a BGG perspective of people who log on there.
This disappointing list appears to mark what to me is a sad direction of the BGG audience. I think this list wouild have had dramatically different types of games five years ago. Solo or "best with two people" games always had a playability advantage due to ease to table. But, before society took a dramatic anit-social turn, games with higher prefered player counts and grittier themes would have been better represented. At least Terraforming Mars made it. Even that one probably only made it because of its great solo mode.
That list was very interesting. The numbers on number one are insane though. I got 9 points with 3 gsmes correct (numbers 2, 3 and 9) and 3 games one off (numbers 4, 5 and 7).
Got just 2 points: 1 for placing sea salt and paper #3 and 1 for heat at #5 If only my plays counted it will be 1. Carcasonne (69) 2. Sea Salt and paper (48) 3. Azul (44) 4. Similo (26) 5. 7 wonders architects (24) 6. Draftosaurus (24) 7. Hanabi (14) 8. Viticulture (13) 9. Ticket to ride Europe (12) 10. Ark nova (11)

But; How do you or anyone LEAVE OUT--- CHESS??? It IS A BOARD GAME! Most important - it DEFINITELY IS PLAYED BY PEOPLE-- world wide- than ANY game on their list!!

Ark Nova is popular but it's not even close to as popular as the likes of Wingspan, Magic The Gathering (approximately 50 million players at the moment), Codenames, Carcassonne, or virtually ANY Hasbro games like Monopoly.
I imagine most Magic players won't log plays on BGG. Ark Nova however is played a LOT in recent months on Boardgamearena. It's been on BGA since May last year, and has reached 3.8 million plays. Carcassonne has 10 mil plays but since Nov 2016, while Wingspan has 3.6 mil since Sep 2022. Azul does beat it, with 15 mil plays since Dec 2021. Of course very few of these plays are imported into BGG (though the BG Stats app makes it easy since you just have to click to import). But BGG does let you search by date interval, so it's easiest to use for a stats video. :)
Magic players dont use BGG, because its the only game they play. Obviously it would be millions of plays and number 1

The scoring is not fair. It would be better to give 10 points if you guessed precisely, 9 points if you missed 1 place, 8 if 2 places, and so on.
