Given Alex contested the assassin and Josephine had the assassin, that one move should have killed Alex. The assassination would still go through, and Alex had to give up one of his cards for being wrong. That's both cards gone. Contesting assassin is extremely risky unless you know that they don't have it. It's a much safer play to claim you have the Contessa and hope they don't contest it. If it didn't kill both cards to contest assassin and be proven wrong, everybody would contest assassin all the time.
True. They did remember that rule in the previous game. Speaking of previous game I think they still played the Exchange rule wrong. When you take the extra card you can take all 3 cards into your hand then return 1 card from those to the deck. Not that it matters so much as with Ambassador it would.

@@leonardobeasley6319 actually closer to 27:40. 28:00 almost entirely misses the misplay. At the first time mentioned in this post, Alex is about to contest the assassin, and then he only gives up 1 card when he's proven wrong around the second time mentioned in this post, ignoring that the assassination still goes through.
claiming contessa and being contested loses someone both their cards though, because they didnt actually have a contessa, the assassination still goes through and because they lied about having a contessa they also lose another. it doesnt matter too much whichever you do, both are risky.
@@WickedBlondie yes, both are dangerous, but claiming contessa is slightly safer, because it requires your opponent to choose to gamble about whether you have a contessa for the assassination to go through.

So, I've avoided a lot of game the game (sorry g&s, loved tabletop, tried 2 videos from this series and just didn't vibe).
I love coup, just watched polygon's video for the 4th time, and this popped up in suggested. I only saw b dave walters and coup, and immediately said "alright, I'll check this one out."
The very moment the camera turned to Alex and Josephine, my mouth went wide open, and immediately realized it was an LA by Night special. I love all of your work on that show ( your meaning everyone in this video), you all do tremendous work there.

I love it when Becca wins on this show. I feel like she has to kind of put her own competitiveness aside to a degree, to make sure her guests have fun and, in some cases, aren't penalized for not being as familiar with the rules, so it's nice when she gets to win anyway. #teambecca

I like the reformist/loyalist thing cuz it makes it less of a 'game the system' to win, and about co-op with those you feel you can trust.

My headcanon lore is that once the first instance where 1 faction dies out, in this case Becca, that faction becomes EXTINCT and the mechanic goes away for the rest of the game. Otherwise you have to wrap your head around the lore that an EXTINCT faction can come back from the dead. Ok, even if it is by excommunication, there's no logic in everyone going after an excommunicated clan. That's why you get excommunicated. Nobody wants to have anything to do with you. They don't even want to come after you anymore. That's my headcanon and I stand by it. Roast me, laugh at me, I don't mind.
Objection! at 27:40 Alex should have been knocked out of the game since he would have lost a influence for contesting the assassin and then lost another when assassinated. Otherwise, you would always contest since there would be no downsides if your going to lose an influence anyway.
Yeah, I saw that too. It's easy to miss though. Probably happens to every group that plays this at least once. :)
