    I have a 2011 Turbo S coupe. I’d say you nailed everything about the car pretty spot on. It honestly sounds pretty naff. Worlds angriest vacuum. It definitely gets the front light under power for sure. You definitely could have used launch control, it’s super robust, but I get not wanting to on some else’s 10 year old car. Two points of note, that wheel is the optional multifunction wheel. It was possible to order the sport wheel with real paddles but then you had no steering wheel audio controls. I’m glad mine is the latter. Also, all Turbo S’s were PDK only. The first gen PDK is a bit slushy in normal as you saw but is certainly more aggressive in sport and sport plus!

      @newbyfollome ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine isn't the S but around a corner with a little juice and she'll get loose, especially with TCS off and in plus.Never felt like it understeered. Maybe they changed the power split on the S.

    The GT3's of this generation get all of the attention these days, but the Turbo and Turbo S are what people should be paying attention to. Could easily outrun a 458 in a straight line but had the road manners of a base Carrera. Great car.

      @@jasonweng2739 Oh, don’t get me wrong I’m firmly in the NA GT3 camp. But the 997 Turbo is such excellent value for a sports car these days. Even higher mile 997.1 GT3’s are going for $130k and up in this market. It’s madness.

      Tbf these have also been spiking in value lately. Especially considering that 997 turbo were the last to have a manual as an option.

    What a cool sound coming from that 911! Of course it doesn't scream like a GT3, but I always liked the noise these cars made. I also never hated the PDK either, I feel like it was a huge step forward from the old Tiptronic boxes. Definitely not a fan of those shifters though lol, but I think the sport wheel came with proper paddles.

  • @bwdrives
    @bwdrives ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It’s crazy that the sport design steering wheel wasn’t standard on the 997.2 PDK
    I have it in my 987.2 Boxster S Black Edition and it looks superb + has proper paddles
    PDK is supposedly not as a sharp as modern Porsches but it still snaps through shifts like nothing I’ve ever experienced

    So I actually really enjoy the sound of the 997 turbos, the jet engine like sound oozes aggression and power especially with the roof down, and I was actually a bit disappointed when they changed it because to me it became very much associated with the turbo in my mind.

    Is there a safety mechanism on it, so you don't accidentally downshift while you're doing 100+ MPH??? That really seems like a weird system.

    • @joetacchino4470
      @joetacchino4470 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it will not let you downshift to a money shift. It will just ignore you.
      Yes, they are really weird. But not as weird as the original Tiptronic toggles, IMO.

  • @Roddy_Zeh
    @Roddy_Zeh ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the Turbo S became a standard version in the 997, right?
    I do remember a 996 Turbo S, I guess that was a limited edition? IIRC it was, in some ways, essentially a 996 Turbo with more options and also a Power Kit, bumping horsepower from 414hp/420PS to 444hp/450PS.
    But I could be wrong. If any Porsche specialists read this comment, correct me if I'm wrong.

    • @T8T-
      @T8T- ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was no Turbo S for the 997.1, but yes for the 997.2 it was not a limited edition. It was just another trim level above the regular Turbo.

    • @lorenzolm
      @lorenzolm ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A 997.2 Turbo did exist, on the 997.1 there was only a Turbo but you could get it with the powerkit like you mentioned on the 996, as far as I'm concerned the 996.2 Turbo S wasn’t a limited edition, but there were not many sold and it came out a year or two before the 997 generation, so that’s what makes it rare

    Your comment about the suspension is also spot on. The car, stock, puts PASM into the sport setting whenever you select Sport or Sport Plus engine modes. WAY too stiff. You can toggle the PASM back manually, but it's a PITA.
    I got a DSC Sport suspension controller which replaces the factory PASM controller. It's semi-active and it's looking to do more with the shocks than the factory controller. It's fully customizable with different maps if you so chose, but even the off the shelf program is better. In normal it keeps the shocks much softer. In sport, it keeps them close to the factory normal setting when you're not turning. When it starts sensing g's it starts stiffening up the shocks. It actually stiffens the shocks on the loaded side and slackens the shocks on the unloaded side to maximize contact. It's pretty good, but still trails behind the more modern systems in the 991 and 992.
    But yeah, out of the box, Sport PASM is just way too stiff on anything other than a perfect road.

    Only thing she's missing are the shoulder bolstered sport seats. I didn't think they were a big deal until I sat in em. Now it's the hunt for Red October to find one that has 'em. Why blow all that cashola and not get 'em?

      1. Because as you saw, they are hard to find. 2. If you want vented seats, the normal seats are the only way you can get that.

      @@joetacchino4470 I meant, when people ordered the cars initially. Of course in the secondary market you get what you can. And better a limp color or option than a limp car.

    Something to think about-- $170k in 2012 is about $225,000 today. So right now, for $100k LESS, you can get a new Carrera S, which matches this 997 Turbo S's performance. Maybe Porsche's pricing isn't so bad after all?

      @@BIG_SCAM Not really. Just making an apples-to-apples comparison of purchasing power. Today it costs $125k to buy the performance that used to cost $225k. Not bad.

      @@1855Media yeah but that was top of the line performance at the time vs what a lot of cars now will do for half the price. Everyone knows tech and engineering moves forward, doesn’t really have anything to do with Porsches pricing. Every company that sells performance cars has done this.
