  • With various inter-state coronavirus restrictions lessening (sort of), I decided to get an MD fishing license and head to the Gunpowder River. This tailwater fishery in Northern Maryland (near PA border) is really a treasure. First time fishing here with both my spinning and fly rods yielded approx. 7 or so Brown Trout up to 12 or 13 inches. Will definitely be back.

They are a few wild Rainbows and occasional Brook Trout. If you go down lower past the Catch & Release Sec they do Stock a lot of Rainbows.Small Rapalas work great also in Gunpowder!

My local stream! I spend a good 8 hours a week below the damn and yes we don’t appreciate the spinners in there! 😁

So what is your beef with a ultra light spinner set up?

Thanks, I was going to get my Maryland license but idk if my daughter would do well here with the vegetation I guess it's not much worse than parts of the Yellow Breeches in my back yard but it's overwhelmed with old guys with spinning rods right now.

Love your videos man. I think it would be killer if you did some fishing in NY . South of Buffalo in the southern tier...

So how do you cast upstream and not get snagged in the rocks I have been on that stretch of water and its very rocky.

I once caught a 22 inch brown out of that river, and came across another of the same size that was dying in shallow water. They get alot bigger then 12 inches there lol

If they hit spinners, you might try a size 8 or so flashy streamer.

Hey man, glad you made it down this way. Did you like it overall? The fish aren't huge, but plentiful for sure. Anything at 10 inches, or bigger, is a great fish there. They are also very pretty! Super tough to fish with flies I think. There are tribs that hold wild browns, and brookies, just sometimes hard to find. You did right by fishing the section you were in, all the way up to the dam. Also, all the tribs are all super low. Thanks for the shout out as well, glad I was able to help in some way. You ever need any advice on the area you know how to find me.

Loved it. Beautiful scenery and great water temperatures for this time of year. Definitely will be back. Seems to get incredibly crowded though by mid-morning (and it's not even spring). Thanks for the comment, I may take you up on advice sometime for MD streams, seems like there's some great spots.

@@TravelingTroutCoWeek days are best, then you can have most of a stretch to yourself. The stretch/beat you were on, and the one just below, at the next bridge, are the most pressured. Keep in mind that is a top 100 stream, so always people there. But if you go when conditions aren't great, or week day, you can clean up and not see as many people. I went memorial day weekend, was there at 6 AM, and there were people pulling up left and right as I walked down to stream. By the time I left at 10 it was a mad house. Headed to a small stream in PA, about 25 mins up the road and cleaned up, didn't see another soul. I am sure we can both help each other with places to fish and see. Tight lines man!

Got your license ! Good because master would get mad if you didnt beg for permission to catch his fish, You must pay for your RIGHT to catch a fish here in this free state, yeah right it's disgusting. No state may convert a liberty right into a privilege and charge a fee license it, let that sink in.
