  • Summer is in full swing on the Gunpowder River and fish are starting to change their behavior in the lower flows and hotter conditions. In this video I show off a new rod to the arsenal, and fish single and double nymph rigs to catch around a dozen trout. I hope you enjoy and pick up a trick or two along the way!

      Glad to get some content up. I recorded another video this day. If I’m lucky I’ll put that out in a week or two. More of a tutorial on that one than a fishing trip. Should be a good one. Tight lines and thanks for watching.

    Great job! The gunpowder is not an easy stream! You gotta get that big one next time!

      Thanks Justin. I def will be back for my friend. Knowing the location is more than half the battle and I suspect he isn’t alone in that general 50-100 yard stretch. I agree it is not easy but with practice and precision it’s something that people can master. Appreciate you watching and tight lines!

      Thank you for watching and commenting. It was a great day. Truthfully it was nice to just fish for me. Catching one would have been fun. But a dozen is a nice boost in confidence. Tight lines!

    Lovely video. Thanks. And, although it may not be the Madison, the Gunpowder certainly seems to be a beautiful and productive stream.

      Hey Alex,
      Thanks for watching and commenting. It’s not the Madison but this river is special to me and many others. Crazy how close it is to Baltimore City. Some really nice remote parts of stream. Tight lines!

    Really dig the content Mike. I think what you're doing is great. I remember when I started fly fishing, TH-cam wasn't what it is now if it even existed and I was always so greatfull if someone took time out of their day to pass along some useful information. I intend to book a trip in the near future. Tight lines!!

      Thanks a lot for kind words. Glad that the buddy of work I’ve put out helps people. That is the reason why I do it. Look forward to doing a trip with you and helping get even better clarity and hands on learning that will make a world of difference. Till then tight lines!

    Thanks for the great video. I'm from DE and I'm looking to get on some wild trout. What flies do you recommend for the summer/fall? @WooleyBugged showed some flies for the winter, but how about the summer?

    • @tightliningmd
      @tightliningmd  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Josh,
      Mike is a great guy and angles. In the summer I’m throwing small stuff. Size 16-20 nymphs. A dry dropper would be good too, but I primarily nymph. I have been having good success on Walt’s Worms, Pheasant Tails, Sexy Walt’s, and CDC France flies. If you tie your own those aren’t too bad to do. If you buy flies and want to support I sell them on my website www.tightliningmd.com as well.
      Good luck out there and hopefully you are getting out on the SEPA waters and Gunpowder. You aren’t very far from good fishing.
      Tight lines!

      No problem Josh. I’ve had people help me along my journey. Happy to give back too. Today a green weenie was good too and mop fly. Water was colored a bit; but those work well in summer in general. Figured I’d share that too.

      @@tightliningmd Hey man, really appreciate your willingness to share. Also, thanks for not giving everything out, as the whole experience is in finding things out and getting rewarded with a bite. Again, thanks and I'll be sure to pick up some flies from your site!!

    Not sure you mentioned it, but what time did you start? Will dry flies be effective this time of year?

    • @tightliningmd
      @tightliningmd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sure I started this around 7 am. Earlier the better in summer. Off the water by 11 or so most days. Dry flies are effective by themselves or as a dry dropper. I prefer a terrestrial this time of year.

    Thanks Mike! Great tutorial and fishing video. I like how you detail adjusting your setup to meet stretch of stream conditions. Now you know where the monster of the GP lives. The GP what a great summer resource. Note: Your PB small brown has officially beaten mine. Thanks for the video and tight lines!

      Hey Dale! Thanks for watching my friend. Shame we missed each other. This was the day you were there. Knowing the address of s big fish is always a good thing to come back and crash a house party down the road. Would have been cool to get a personal best big and small. Or just the big lol. Instead I got just the small. Such is fishing! Tight lines out there and have a great weekend!

    What's the water temperature in the Gunpowder in the summer?

    • @tightliningmd
      @tightliningmd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s been 55-68 during this last week of heat near 100. Pretty impressive and nice to have a tailwater to fish year round!

      Tailwaters and spring creeks. They save the hot summers and cold winters. At least if you are looking for trout.

    Great to see you out there having some fun. Our little streams are unfishable currently so I've been off of them. Vicariously fishing through videos like these. Tailwater, Mike? What kind of temps does the Gunpowder hold? Great tips. Love the helicopter cast - gotta be creative! Part of the fun. Tight lines.

    • @tightliningmd
      @tightliningmd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! That’s a shame to be unfishable, but part of the cyclical fishing season. Wait all winter for spring and then sad again when it’s dead of summer. Our temps, even during a 90-100 degree week was in the 55-57 range all week. We are really lucky for sure. Fishing was good too in spite of best. Tight lines and a new video this week 👍🏻

    Awesome video! Went up there the other day and only caught fall fish, was thinking about trying right by the prettyboy reservoir dam but wasn’t sure how good it would be. Should I check that spot out? Any tips? Thanks

    • @tightliningmd
      @tightliningmd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Carter,
      Depending where you fish this time of year up there on the GP you can certainly sift through a good bit of fallfish/chubs. The closer you get to the dam the better for trout. Fishing gets harder though. I prefer to nymph size 14-18 and stay in contact.
      If you ever have interest in a guide trip head over to my site and I can take you out and show you around/teach you some techniques.
      Tight lines and good luck out there.
