TROUT TOWNS EP. 12 - Rutland, VT
On this episode of Trout Towns, were in Rutland, Vermont - your gateway for exploring the Green Mountain National Forests high-quality tributary streams as well as the larger more meandering creeks flowing through gentle valleys.
Our first stop on this trip will be to Otter Creek - this large sized freestone trout stream is not only stocked with plump rainbow trout, but also enjoys extensive natural reproduction of native brook trout.
We’ll then explore one of Otter Creeks premiere medium sized freestone tributary streams, with naturally reproducing brook and brown trout - all surrounded by some of the prettiest and most rugged national forest lands in the eastern United States.
While in town, we’ll then explore Rutland’s rich historical past - dating back to the pre-revolutionary war colonial period, this town has seen it all. From being a frontier outpost and agricultural center, to becoming Vermonts railroad hub and a world leader at marble processing, Rutland checks all the boxes for historical significance.
We’ll also highlight some of Rutland’s well maintained historic architecture. With styles ranging from Italianate and Romanesque to Art Deco and International Styles, Rutland contributes significantly to Vermont’s overall historic architectural achievements.
Please join me today as we fish, explore, and embrace our very next Trout Town in Rutland, Vermont.

    In the 70's, I was six years old. My father took us camping here long before it was ever developed. We happened one year to camp during the cicada spawn. My father caught so many trout using these bugs it was unbelievable. Like fishing a stocked pond. Great memories. Great place to fish and explore nature. Love your video. Living in Florida now, this video brings great memories. Thanks for sharing.

    NICE! Looks like you hit Rock Run? I can tell by the rocks and how the water carved them out so smoothly. If I’m wrong, it’s a must. It’s arguable the most beautiful stream in the State. And when the fish are biting it’s the best.

    They only say they’re infertile to keep populations steady. The cleaned up Pine Creek about 25-30 years ago. And there’s been a group trying to turn Loyalsock into pristine waters and surroundings. Not like it’s litter ridden or creek is polluted but the group aims to maintain the pristine. One more note Loyalsock and Lycoming flood incredibly bad and quickly. Pine Creek will flood but very rarely. It rises slow but also drops slow while the other two can flood in an hour over the banks causing devastation. I lived for 1.5 years about 5 miles South of where you started. Prior I lived 5 miles from Creek and 25 miles to your spot. Little Bear again has so many natives. They do stock Loyalsock too. Little Bear has a handicap area which they stock.

    Man living in Williamsport, you forget just how much wealth was here. We have a road called Millionaires row which will prob get covered. But the logging boom put us on the map. Way way up Lycoming. Creek there is a graveyard on the side of the mountain, 15 min drive from the 1850s-1870s. Many of the deaths were infants. It was and still is so remote but I couldn’t imagine living there 160 years ago. Once again Loyalsock for the win. Glad you went well up stream. It’s def our pride and joy and Brownies and large and plentiful.

    Sorry for blowing your page up. But take a Right across the Stream in Trout Run and it’s a 8-10 minute drive to Rose Valley Lake. Also excellent fishing but I prefer hiking thesreams. Brownies are so hard to bring in. Lost a 30 in her after fighting for 10-15 mins. How to judge stock vs non stock? Color is easiest but those small brownies were unlikely stocked by the state.

    Next time you’re fishing in our area. If you want real natives hit the Loyalsock and stop at Bear Run. Prob 7-10 miles north on 87 from 180.

    • @ApocalypseNowWithEli
      @ApocalypseNowWithEli 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh and Lyco is def the hardest to fish just because it’s a lot of holes, not always easily accessible. While Loyalsock terrain is much rougher, it’s still easy to get to many spots. Also , I don’t believe the state stock brownies and only a few Brookies. However many private clubs stock their own. Including Palominos. Little Bear off the Loyalsock is one of the very small streams where the natives hang. I’d rather catch five 6-8” natives than 20 stockies. Man so many places I’d love to take you. Great video.

    As a life long trout fishing enthusiast. We have 3 amazing streams within 20 miles. I’ve fished them all a lot and my recently deceased Uncle lived on Pine Creek. Probably the most famous with presidents fish there just s an example. I lived about 2 blocks from the LL Complex. It’s impressive. I now live in Duboistown which is part of the Williamsport zip Code and live right by the Susquehanna River. Little Trivia, the Susquehanna is one of the top 3-4 oldest rivers in tHE WORLD. We’, made some mistakes like stripping our mountains of all trees. We also allowed fracking which was surprisingly not that invasive and brought a lot economic benefits for a few years. There’s still here (gas companies) but it’s been slowed as of late. Of the3 Creeks we fish. I prefer the Loyalsock Creek first, then Pine Creek and finally the Lycoming. First Eagle I ever saw was in 1999-2000 while fishing in Camaal PA which is up Pine Creek. It flew 30 yds above my head in the dead center of the creek. That got me hooked and I bought a camera and started to become a birder. I’ve now seen hundreds of different Eagles, with teens of thousands of views. Even though Lyco in #3. It’s probably still a top 0 in the USA. Lycoming Country with Williamsport and surrounding communities we have incredible outdoor opportunities. Looking to camp? Def find camping on the a Loyalsock. While each creek is gorgeous and the terrains are decent but Loyalsock is amazing. Also you won’t see the stockies as much in Loyalsock. You’ll catch a ton of natives and huge brownies.

    Big Hunting has been mis managed.. the dam releases have been reduced to a trickle at times killing most of the fish below the dam..The lake above the dam is more managed for boating and swimming and when summer droughts come.. the dam management shuts the flows down to a ridiculous flow..Its a shame since Big Hunting used to be a really nice trout stream..

  • @VinylWarrior24
    @VinylWarrior24 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I live about 80 yards from Lycoming Creek in Cogan Station....those rainbow really have a lot of color in them....unlike the mostly silver ones at the dam at Pine Creek. Try Antes Creek from the mouth of the Susquhanna up to the culvert some time.....lots of big brookies in there.....the fishing hunting club owns the land further up stream so you can't go up further. Under the bridge on 220 at McElhatten Creek has brookies there as i owned the stream up down from there and used to see them all the time but they don't get that big. Rock Run up north around Ralston has a lot of trout. They will stock again in October and you can go online and it will tell you when and where and what they are putting in. Good luck as you can fish better than 90 per cent of the anglers around here!
