      I don't want to be beautiful, pretty, attractive. I want to be invisible. I want to be seen as the woman I am but so indistinguishable that people just accept me at face value and forget me as fast as they didn't notice me. Unfortunately that will never be the case 🫤

    I take meds, and have done for 12 years on and off, to manage mood disorders. While it can be a pain in the arse, I certainly don't regret it as I really don't have a choice (well, the other choice would be the end of all choosing). It's pretty obvious that Jamie takes his meds for the same reason: that's how he can live a decent life. I'm with you, bro! Lifelong necessary med gang!

    • @lrfcowper
      @lrfcowper 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +56

      Yup! 12+ prescriptions here. I guess I'm "medicalized" because I like breathing, not being in agonizing nerve pain, and not stroking out and dying. If I could safely take HRT, I'd probably add that to the list, but apparently endometrial cancer likes those hormones, so no. Society only tries to shame people for using drugs that 1) help with mental health, 2) are gender affirming (and thus help with mental health), or 3) affect your reproductive ability. Why? 1) Power and control, 2) power and control, 3) power and control. So all those people trying to shame folks for taking prescriptions to be fully functional -- including HRT for trans folks -- can step off.

      My doctor told me when I started estrogen, that I was going to gain 15 pounds and start having roller coaster mood swings. I did gain the weight but it took years as I'm fairly active. I've never been really emotional so I was actually looking forward to mood swings. Instead I became even more emotionally flat-lined. I still have emotions I am just not at all excitable in a good or bad way.

    • @CorwinFound

      That is good news. The issue I see with what has happened is that sure, she's a cis woman. The hate she's received is horrible with real life consequences. But what if she had been trans? The response would have been 1000% worse and not illegal because it's true? If we are celebrating the phobes being "wrong" then in my opinion we are happy about the wrong issue. I'd love to see them get hit with harrassment versus defamation or libel.
      Here's a different hypothetical. Say black folk were excluded from sport due to an idea that they had an unfair advantage. And a person kicks ass in the ring and the call goes up, "Unfair, they are black, have black heritage, that's why they won." And our response was, "No, they aren't black! See the DNA tests proving it! Oh, and don't be a bigot... to non-black people that you think are black."
      Basically in my mind when we celebrate Rowling et al being punished in some way for erroneously calling someone trans, then we are kind of validating the anti-trans point. As if their hate wouldn't be wrong (or less wrong) if they had been correct on the facts.
      Regarding Imane herself, absolutely she should be making these legal moves. It's her life, her sport, her harm. Get that bag and make them suffer. But trans folk and allies on the outside need to rethink this tactic. Because when this situation arises with actual trans people we've already ceded ground.

    Danish Minister of Equality (I sh*t you not) just wrote in an article today that "Biology is decided by genes. You can't change that. That is also why there are limits to which rights transwomen and transmen should have"
    (yes, she wrote "transwomen and transmen", not "trans women and trans men".)
    She got mad that a provocative artist, a trans woman, wanted to be placed in the women's prison instead of the men's prison. Then she decided to write about this in the **literal newspaper**, stating that she has nothing against people who self-identify as a trans woman or a trans man, only that they will always be **biologically** the gender they were born as.

      Is it an adjective or modifying root in the word in that language? Cuz in English separating them indicates an adjective while smooshing them together implies a noun as, if trans woman and men are entirely separate from cis men and cis women not just another kind of man or woman. Another bigger dog whistle is transgenderism which etymologically could mean the phenomena of transgender experiences OR it could be a dog whistle framing being trans as disseminating a ideology and dove tails from there. Ambiguous language is such fun /sarcasm ( not fun in this case)
      I mean the Minister is clearly showing bio essentialism and oppositional sexism so the implied animus of noun vs adjective in a non-native tongue is kinda meaningless when her bias is right there.

      The worst thing about that, is: the reason why prisons are segregated by gender, is to protect the female inmates from rape. Since trans women are even more likely to be sexually abused by male predators, then cis women, they should be equally segregated, even IF you agree that there are certain areas in which trans women cannot have equality due to their biology. What they are basically saying is, that trans women do not deserve equal protection.

    I would go off it if I wanted a kid in a heartbeat. But there's a pretty good chance that even after menopause (barring pregnancy), it's forever.
    I dont hear any conspiracy theorists chiming in on it. Maybe one every few years. And I doubt strongly that it would work for everyone. But depo calmed my system enough for partial remission, and that will probably be my life until they take it off the market.

      Similar boat here. I've been on birth control pills since I hit puberty because things just weren't functioning correctly. If I miss a pill by more than about an hour, I'll start bleeding. I'm 30 now, been on these for more than half my life, and I know I won't be able to stop taking them until menopause at the earliest. Even if I went and got my tubes tied today, I'd still need to take them in order to be functional and stable and not ruining clothing.
      People like me are never part of the argument for transphobes and bigots. They want to get rid of hormone therapy to hurt trans folks, and they want to get rid of contraceptives to force me to have children. They don't care that without the medication, I will still likely be unable to carry due to my hormonal issues that the medicine is controlling (please do not express sadness to me for this- I hate children and definitely do not want any). They don't care that taking away my access to the medication will ruin my life and make me miserable on the daily. They don't care that the thought of pregnancy literally makes me want to stab myself in the lower belly to cut out the parasite in there. They care that I have a womb, and they insist I should be using it "for the good of our country." Medical and psychological issues be damned.
      These are about half of the people that want to run the USA right now. If they win, I fear for myself as well as for all my friends and neighbors and family members and the entire LGBT+ community. Hearing them talk and seeing their plans... it's legitimately terrifying.

Reflect on why you know that’s wrong- for example, stereotypes are useless and we know this because we know that our own groups have diversity within them (like if you’re Italian and your cousin hates pasta or something) so logically it has to be the same with all people everywhere. Speaking mostly from my own jaded American worldview here, but the people who popularize those sorts of buzzwords (the politicians and demagogues) don't necessarily believe what they're saying. They're courting a voter base or audience who may not have had the chance to go to college--possibly due to the need to get a job to support their family (e.g., an unplanned child; an aging parent or grandparent; a sibling with chronic health issues), and/or lack of government support for public education--and stoking resentment for college-educated liberals while ignoring the part where college-educated conservatives consistently vote for policies that keep other people poor and uneducated.
      It's evil because the whole idea that there's something morally wrong with being poor ALSO crops up on the right (see: "freeloaders" rhetoric about people on welfare/Medicaid), but as long as people to listen to what the talking heads say without looking at what the politicians actually DO, they'll continue to believe the right will give them all the pride and prosperity they need in exchange for their support. Meanwhile, anyone who argues with them is construed as trying to take away what pride and prosperity they currently have. And who wants to let anyone do that?
      It's always worth remembering that the average conservative is constantly being lied to and manipulated into a state of fearfulness by their own supposed representatives. Pity them, and work to make the world better for everyone. Even them.

    I'm grateful there's now HRT. As watching my mums struggle when she was 32 yo and going through menopause was awful as HRT wasn't available then for women who were that were going through menopause.
    The Dr had to work out what hormones my mum needed and had to prescribe them to my dad, as they were hormones that were acceptable for a cisman to take but not a ciswoman, so my dad had to pretend he needed these hormones so my mum could get treatment of HRT for her early onset menopause.
    The thing people had to do just to get by and that it still happens today. Quite sad.

    I do think arguments that don't simply *name* transphobia, but rather show the harm and foolishness of it, are most compelling--but I can't blame you for being exhausted in having to deliver them so damn often. Almost no one I talk to about Avoidant Personality Disorder has ever even heard of it, so spreading awareness to try to save more people like myself is very much a similar feeling of "ugh, I have to educate the whole bleeding world." The only thing that keeps me going is knowing how important it is for the world to understand, but I really do get the fatigue which comes with that. One person can only do so much, but I thank you for what you do. You've really helped me unravel some of the brainwashing from my religious childhood.

Things that people can have strong opinions about and strongly disagree about, but that don't really affect anything. Subjects like basic human rights, on the other hand, are not up for debate.

    I wanted to leave one last comment before I go: there is a very famous American photographer named Donna Gottschalk. She was a lesbian woman and is most famous for her photos of queer Americans. Most of her photos were taken in the 1970's during the early years of LGBT+ activism for equal rights. She is celebrated in the current LGBT+ community for photographing queer history in the US and for doing so in real time. And she published an entire photo collection of queer women who had facial hair. Granted they were all from the LGBT+ community: but it was created with the sole intention of showing that women can grow facial hair just as naturally as men. And that it's nothing negative or shameful. Have a great day everyone.

    Clownfish and hawkfish also change their sex depending on the situation as well, they join the banana slug boat.
    The issue with people who say, "scientific evidence doesn't prove it exists" is that they think scientific research hypothesizes that trans people don't truly exist, when the true scientific method instead asks the question, "do they exist?" and doesn't say yes or no in the question alone. That's the majority of scientific research, the question should be unbiased and able to pull from multiple sources and stand up to sources that oppose it using more evidence, keyword: UNBIASED. By changing the question from "trans people don't exist" to "do they exist?", you open up a world of possibilities, you begin to truly understand that biology doesn't fit in a neat box and is constantly spilling out new content that we have yet to understand. As a person who went into biology in college, biology isn't absolute and we still don't know everything about everything, it's not a neat box. And guess what, the answer to the latter question is: yes! They do exist, and the evidence we're starting to understand supports that, without there being any prior bias for or against it.

    • @viverra
      @viverra 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Although the question is not "do trans people exist" any more than it would be "do left-handed people exist". The nearest to that it would come is to argue over what is meant by "trans" - and that argument we HAVE seen, and we still see echoes of when people insist that sex = gender. Research is more on the why (what factors are at play) and how (physiological, psychological, and sociological interplay).

    • @carolinacoreas7716
      @carolinacoreas7716 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@viverra fair, I mean your response, especially at the end further goes on to show that there are so many other factors to consider in this research, which is another big aspect of research in general. It's basically to look for more possibilities than what we already do understand, i.e, thinking further outside the box and understanding that biology doesn't fit in a neat box and is never absolute. Biology constantly surprises us in ways that pushes us to further look for the "why", it has a knack of introducing new things we didn't expect.

    ngl when people say "I don't support" but I'm not homophobic-
    there are I guess 2 ways to "not support"
    1- you don't actively engage in pride/lgbt media but you still agree they should have rights (actually not homophobic, but if this was the case there's really no need to say "i don't support")
    2- you actually don't think that gay people should have rights/ don't want to see anything even related, and you are homophobic

    Ummmm. Actual Biologist here (schooling and career). Binary sex doesn't exist, let alone gender, which isn't even the same thing. Even in humans, sex is not truly a clear cut system. The only reason "basic biology" works things in a largely binary, straightforward way, is due to it being meant to TEACH CHILDREN THE BASICS, and give you a sort of general idea of how heredity and things work, but once you make it past that point, it is very clear that it is SOOOOOOOOOO much more messy and complicated than that.

    • @DesOkun
      @DesOkun 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Yeah "basic" biology is just that "basic". It is like someone telling a mathematician that we can't use algebra or calculus or any other higher level, advanced, math and can only use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division because there is only "basic" math.
      Go to college/university and you will learn advanced forms of education, which of course is more advanced than "basic" versions of that education. I have a B.S. in Zoology and took all the same courses that pre-med, etc. take, such as genetics, developmental biology, etc. I also took psychology, sociology, and interpersonal relationship courses with my focus on behavior and communication in animals/people.
      It blows my mind that people want to focus on grade school level science when people who have gone to higher level education institutions are clearly telling them that they are wrong if they would only look up higher level or advanced research and studies on those topics. Why do people listen to people on Twitter, FB, etc., who have never actually studied a subject, instead of someone who has an actual degree in, and in many cases actually practices medicine in, that field?

    • @trigger2648
      @trigger2648 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@SeaBreeze-w9999 That's perfectly fine to teach them it exists, and give perspectives from transgender individuals about what it is like. Nothing I, nor the person who replied prior to you (the one other reply to my comment I've seen so far, that is) said anything about not teaching about transgender individuals/people, non-human animals, or anything else trans. Frankly, I think schooling in general, at least in the USA, is severely lacking in detail, especially in the case of biology, which has become even more obvious in recent years. I was saying the binary system of sex, being either completely male or completely female, is very fundamental level meant to start you out in an easy and low information introductory sort of way, but that system isn't actually accurate and doesn't truly exist because there is WAY more to it than that. As it is, in middle school or first year of high school, my biology courses were already teaching that there was more to it. Once I entered college and focused on biology (majored in biology with a focus towards the anatomy and physiology of multiple species and classes of organism, and minored in psychology) the information on genetics, physiological differences and changes, and so much more quickly expanded, basically making the Gregor Mendel pea experiment (a very widely used and simple example of heredity and genetics) was, while an ok source for teaching that heredity exists, teaches so very little on the topic that not providing further detail is almost an insult to the learning capabilities of children, let alone teens and older.

      @@trigger2648 It’s important to be wary about teaching something socially contagious to children.

    • @trigger2648
      @trigger2648 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SeaBreeze-w9999 So far, the only "socially contagious" complaints have been claims that haven't been supported. It's not about teaching or not teaching without prompting. It should be about providing as unbiased of information on a topic as possible, when asked or if it comes up. Giving clear and accurate information, or as accurate as possible by using unbiased, or as unbiased as it can get, research and true experiences. Someone may find something fits them (gay, bi, trans, whatever else), and as they get more information find it maybe doesn't quite fit, or maybe it does. Even prior to some of the newer, and in some cases excessive, laws regarding things like being trans, even kids didn't get irreversible transition procedures. Avoiding the conversation and making it wrong will cause worse reactions and extreme acts that could be avoided by just teaching people the accurate information when asked. I've taught quite a few kids and have quite a few (honestly, kinda too many, but there's a reason one of my sister's got her tubes tied) nieces and nephews, of various ages, and I have yet to meet a kid, or especially teen, that isn't questioning themselves and trying to figure things out, yet still aren't ready to jump into it just because some other people found it fit them. Yes, some people might do crazy and irresponsible things, but that takes a lot of money and has literally always existed and will always exist. Some people will do something on a whim if they can, but avoiding the discussion or providing bad information about it will only punish the people that are already trying to think it through. Kids may have a lot of growing to do, but if you give them the right tools, they are capable of understanding considerably more than many people give them credit for.
