Thank you very much for all this info! My partner's a trans woman, so I was aware of Finasteride as being an anti-androgen that transfem individuals might take, but the idea of a transmasc person taking it alongside T wasn't one that I had imagined myself. Since the waiting list is really long, I'm in a period of socially transitioning - coming out (or coming out AGAIN, for some people), trying to diet or exercise to change my body shape, etc - and also research. I've known for years that I want top surgery, but I've always been a bit iffy with the idea of of being on T because I wasn't sure on all of the effects of it? Basically, I wasn't sure that I wanted to "pass" as a cis guy and stop being feminine, I also want to be androgynous. Low-dose T does seem to be the way forward then? The main thing I'm worried about it my head hair.
I’m happy for you! I know that waiting must stink but you’re doing your best with it! About my hair, I’ve seen absolutely no changes in my hairline. Idk if everyone’s experience is like that but I know that hair loss is slowed by being on a lower dose of T

I love this video! I feel like we have similar goals with our transition. I have not begun a medical transition yet. I really want to do low-dose T. I want the voice drop and the masculinization of my features. I am not a fan of facial hair, like you said lo. I do not want any facial hair it is just not my vibe. I am worried because I do not really want to come out before beginning, I would rather just go got it and tell my friends. But fam would never get it
Take the path that makes you feel the most comfortable! For me, the masculinization is worth having to shave every now and then but see how it goes for you. And I get it my family didn’t understand either so just make sure you have some supports!
@@mavmagick i have some good supports in my friends. thank you for replying! I've had a rough time finding POC documenting this journey so I'm glad to be able to follow yours. Especially as another black nonbinary person.
Interesting how you’ve described the change regarding how you feel about hair, especially facial hair. I’m considering t as a non-binary, and I don’t particularly want facial hair but for some reason I looooove shaving my face! so I shave whatever I have naturally as an afab just for the sake of shaving. I guess I’ll just enjoy it more with t and I understand I don’t have to grow it out ever if I don’t want to.
Im glad Finasteride worked for you but in fact it is pretty risky. It can cause sexual dysfunction and psychic issues like depression and anxiety even after tapering it off. Most doctors underestimate the risk unfortunately.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing your experience ^^ I have pretty similar transition goals but for the longest time I was too scared to even consider taking T (mostly due to the body and facial hair) But after hearing many different people's experience with it, I've come to the conclusion, that I at least wanna give it a try! I'll probably be going on a low dose as well, but I liked the idea of to taking a full dose in the first month to kinda "kick start" some of the changes I'll definitely ask my doctor about it once I hopefully get started on the process to getting HRT I also loved hearing how much happier and more confident you are now! Trans joy is absolutely beautiful ❤️
Thank you for sharing your journey! This is really insightful as I think about what I want to do with my life. Do you find you sweat more on T? I already sweat a lot as I am...
Hi, thank you so much for the video!! I'm just wondering whether you noticed your voice drop any more after starting finasteride? I'm currently on finasteride + low-dose T, but am trying to decide whether I might need to go off it for a while to get the voice drop first! (I want pretty much the same affects as you! Also your voice is absolute bliss to listen too! Thank you!
Aww thanks so much!! And I was only on it for a few months because it impacted my libido, but my prescriber wanted my voice to drop before starting finasteride!
I have started my Journey as a non-binary person 😆😆😆 I got my binder on the last week of pride month and now I’m gathering up the courage to tell my therapist about my gender dysphoria and starting testosterone.

Just some questions if you don't mind: 1. Do you believe that 'non binary' will become just another label or gender for a new gender binary/trinary tradition in the future? 2. Would you say that you're trans/non-binary or would you say that you're just Mav being Mav how Mav sees Mav's self that happens to be trans/non-binary(if that makes sense)? What I mean by that is do you allow labels to come in front and reduce you to something less than what you can truly be, not just gender labels but all labels? 3. Do you practice meditation? Anyway, thank you for reading and I hope you liked it. Have a wonderful life
Thanks for the questions! I have hope that the world will be more open to non-binary gender options. I don’t really know what that would look like in this world but I hope that non-binary identities become more normalized. I think just creating a third option for gender isn’t enough if that makes sense. For the next question I feel that I am just Mav and I happen to be trans and non-binary. Those labels are helpful for me to navigate this world and also to connect and relate to other trans and non-binary folks. Above all I am just a soul learning to navigate this 3-D world. And yes! I practice every day. Meditation is a huge part of my spiritual practice. Thanks for all these amazing questions! I wish you the best
May I answer too? Your questions are very interesting! 1- In my opinion, no. There's not one right way to be nonbinary. It's an umbrella term for a lot of identities. For example, some nonbinary people don't want anything about medical transition and others want to go through everything available. That way, there's no way to put nonbinary into a box. 2 - I've always been nonbinary, but this term didn't exist on my vocabulary. It's a part of me that I couldn't understand until I learned about other people who feel the same. It's like discovering you have an ability for something you've never tried before, you know? It's not about me fitting into a label, it's about a label being a tool for me. Is it confusing? 3 - I used to do that, but my life is more chaotic now and it's not a habit anymore...
Hmmm I'm thinking a bit about whether I want to medically transition or not, this video is really helpful. Some things I want are the fat distribution, I really hate how my waist/hips look, also I think I want a deeper voice because I don't like how it sounds in recordings but I'm not sure if that's a dysphoria thing or self confidence thing. Also I need to find videos of people who share my accent and what their voice sounds like deeper because uh I don't like uncertainty. Also the mood thing is so interesting, I'm not personally worried about that because I'm autistic and have bad emotional regulation + ocd (undiagnosed) where I get violent intrusive thoughts and I'm thinking I could get past that because I have it already, trust me it's not fun but if it comes to it I think I could cope. There are a few things I'm not sure about, although definitely changes I don't want would be bottom growth and hair loss (honestly I would rather have nothing down there genital wise but surgery scares me so I'm thinking I'll leave it, thing is though I have chest dysphoria too and I'm not looking forward to surgery recovery if I end up getting top surgery.) My dysphoria right now is at it's not that bad unless I give it serious thought then I realise I'm deeply uncomfortable in my body.

thank you for this video! I am currently working on the process towards getting top surgery and have been researching low dose T. it's super assuring to know there are other nonbinary people out there who share a lot of the same feelings towards going on T, especially low dose. do you feel you would want to stay on T for the long term?
@@mavmagick once you get to the point you want, how do you keep that without having more changes? If I decide I want to go through this process, I won't want revert the effects, but I wouldn't want more changes too
@@laiclaro9100 from what I understand, your best bet is to drastically lower the amount of T you are on. You can take a minimal injection every other week or something for maintenance. But discussing this with an endocrinologist is your best bet!
Did you come out to your parents before or after starting T? I've been approved to start low dose T but haven't come out to my parents yet! (I'm 26 and don't live at home)
I started T without coming out to them. Because of their religious beliefs, there was no point in trying to get their 'approval' because they don't accept this at all. I did come out to them in a letter a few months later and they were unsupportive as I expected. Hopefully, your situation is different! This is something you are doing for you and not for them. I've been on a very interesting and beautiful journey of becoming a TERF, and then eventually more and more radical feminist, in other ways as well! It's been amazingly worthwhile, and I wholeheartedly recommend!! Since you asked. :) ..It's also a REALLY good way to come to love and respect your body, warts and all! While escaping regressive sexist stereotypes, and overall sexism! Or.. not that you can escape it. It is everywhere. But you can come to SEE it for what it is! And understand it! Then reject it, and rebel against it, in a way that's ACTUALLY self-loving, reality based, and healthy! Plus that can also help other women, and all of womanhood, as a class! As we are ALL oppressed by this toxic crap! As opposed to what you do when you buy into gender ideology, which is: you sell us all out. Deciding that, because you suffer under sexism, and you don't like it, you are "so very special", and "not like the other girls", a.k.a. those pedestrian "cis" women, that are obviously completely fine with being objectified and reduced to second-grade support humans for men! (Hint, hint: we're really not.) And that could not possibly have ANY issues with our bodies, and self-acceptance, just because we choose not to medicalize, dissociate, deny the unchangeable reality of our sex, and start mutilating ourselves over a LIE! (Hint, hint: that is just NOT the case! Many of us struggle with accepting our bodies, as well. We just haven't dissociated, and decided to try to IDENTIFY out of reality.) Hoping you'll come to see this one day. In the meantime, all the best to ya!! Sincerely. :)

Great question! I totally forgot to talk about my period in this video. My period stopped a few months after starting T. The assumption is that your ovaries go dormant while on T although pregnancy is still possible. So if you are planning to have sex with someone who produces sperm it is best to continue to use birth control. If you would like to get pregnant most people will stop testosterone and wait for their period to return before trying. I am not a medical expert by any means but I hope this helps🥰

Thanks for sharing! Good luck on your journey!
Just curious to know what you decided on? Im also in the same boat as you and considering starting with doing low dose
@@cainsaint I ended up unexpectedly going to college so I started on 60mg a couple weeks ago, so I don’t have experience on doing what u talked about myself
I still think it’s a really good option if you are stuck in that situation as long as you can make sure you set up paperless billing and nothing gets sent to your parents by accident
Love your vids :) just got top surgery about 3 weeks ago.
I have PMDD and T stopped my symptoms within days. I don't even see significant physical changes yet but I feel great so far.
Great video! Great info! Thank you for sharing!!
This video helped me so so much as a non binary person. Thank you!!
@@imanscott8094 glad to share my story!
Yeah it’s so interesting! My opinions on facial hair change very often and it can be kinda stressful but it’s a learning experience!
Im glad Finasteride worked for you but in fact it is pretty risky. It can cause sexual dysfunction and psychic issues like depression and anxiety even after tapering it off. Most doctors underestimate the risk unfortunately.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing your experience ^^
I have pretty similar transition goals but for the longest time I was too scared to even consider taking T (mostly due to the body and facial hair)
But after hearing many different people's experience with it, I've come to the conclusion, that I at least wanna give it a try!
I'll probably be going on a low dose as well, but I liked the idea of to taking a full dose in the first month to kinda "kick start" some of the changes
I'll definitely ask my doctor about it once I hopefully get started on the process to getting HRT
I also loved hearing how much happier and more confident you are now! Trans joy is absolutely beautiful ❤️
Thank you for sharing your journey! This is really insightful as I think about what I want to do with my life.
Do you find you sweat more on T? I already sweat a lot as I am...
You’re welcome friend!! I think I sweat a bit more but I definitely smell different lol. Each person reacts differently!
Hii, thank you for sharing!!! starting low dose T tomorrow. Nervous & excited.
I totally get that!! Be patient with the process and take your time!
@@mavmagick That's really helpful, thank youu! :)
I’m non binary and I’m going on low dose t Im afraid of the acne since I’m already on lithium and my singing voice I’m afraid of losing
Make sure you have a good skin care routine going!!
I have started my Journey as a non-binary person 😆😆😆 I got my binder on the last week of pride month and now I’m gathering up the courage to tell my therapist about my gender dysphoria and starting testosterone.
Congrats on starting your journey!!
@@mavmagick I came out to my mom and she said I can’t go on T or get top surgery even though I really want to. She asked me what if I do something I’ll regret and even though she loves me, I think she’s disappointed in me. I was thinking of going behind her back but I love her too much (never go behind a black mother’s back to do anything) I told her that I respect her decision but it still kind of hurts
@@tarinblanding1584 that’s so tough dude! I know how that feels :/ if you have to wait till you’re in a better place to start T than that’s okay! Or you can make the best decision for yourself, and your mom can just get on board 🤷🏾
I've been a Non Binary person Since 2013 but Congratulations
Ty so much about telling us about the finasteride! I needed that info!! Nb mom and appreciate you a lot!!

Ahhh! Thanks so much!!
Hi I’m also a trans 🏳️⚧️ and low dose 1ml every 4 weeks is my injection, still no changes may be because I’m Asian or the process of T for me is just slow. Then I feel sad because I don’t see any changes 😢.. almost 8 months I already taken.
OMG SOMEONE THAT LOOKS LIKE MEEEEEE HAIIIIIIIIII :D
lol hey!!
Starting low dose very soon :)))
Yay!!! So exciting 😬❤️
One day on T today!! 💪
omg you had me at the butt hair lol !

I’m genderfluid and I whenever I do feel masc or nonbinary I rlly want to start T but bc I’m still attached and feel like a woman sometimes I don’t know wether it’s best for me or not.
thank you for this video! I am currently working on the process towards getting top surgery and have been researching low dose T. it's super assuring to know there are other nonbinary people out there who share a lot of the same feelings towards going on T, especially low dose. do you feel you would want to stay on T for the long term?
Right now, I love how my body feels on T. It’s something I know I won’t be in forever but right now it’s just right for me!
@@mavmagick you're right! Thanks!!
So weigh out what you feel most comfortable doing! Trust your gut!
@@mavmagick Thanks for your reply! Yeah I don't plan of letting them sway me or anything, I've wanted this for 9 years now, but just not 100% sure when I want to bring it up to them. :-)
@@dr-wurm do it whenever it feels right!! I still haven’t told them about top surgery and probably won’t unless they see me in person (which is unlikely) 😅

Hey. Please can you be more sepcific in dose usage. Whays regualr whats low. Like is 5mg a day low? 5mg a week? Askkng becasue i was given 5mg pack of gel to do 3 days. I wanna know if this is too low or if i will still change just slower. NB trans masc 49. Thanks
@@Jo-vl9mj hi there! I am Intentionally nonspecific with my doses because I don’t want anyone to use me as an example and to seek medical advice!
But I can tell you this. No matter how much T you take, your body will change, it all depends on the rate. If it’s too slow ask your provider to go up in your dose ect
@@mavmagick I understand completely. Thank you for replying.
Once I tern 18 I really really want to start T probably low-dose
Noice!!
I've been on a very interesting and beautiful journey of becoming a TERF, and then eventually more and more radical feminist, in other ways as well! It's been amazingly worthwhile, and I wholeheartedly recommend!! Since you asked. :)
..It's also a REALLY good way to come to love and respect your body, warts and all! We just haven't dissociated, and decided to try to IDENTIFY out of reality.)
Hoping you'll come to see this one day. In the meantime, all the best to ya!! Sincerely. :)
The thing that makes the most sense in this message is the lack of even mentioning dysphoria. It’s not about rejecting womanhood! I celebrate women:)
I'm pre t, I'm going to explode I think
How long to get bottom growth?
What's your dose? I can't find much about low dosage
I'm taking 50mg per month so I have no clue when the effects are gonna come XD
I've started 3 weeks ago
How does low dose testosterone affect fertility? Can one become pregnant on it?
Great question! I totally forgot to talk about my period in this video. My period stopped a few months after starting T. The assumption is that your ovaries go dormant while on T although pregnancy is still possible. So if you are planning to have sex with someone who produces sperm it is best to continue to use birth control. If you would like to get pregnant most people will stop testosterone and wait for their period to return before trying. I am not a medical expert by any means but I hope this helps🥰
