I am from Falmouth and was in Mawnan Smith during the war from 1941-1943. I have that book, and remember all the American troops doing their training all up the Helford! We ended up living at Swanpool. I live in Canada (Ottawa), but returned to Cornwall many many times! You never get Cornwall out of your system!!
Hi. Your cornish walks are so relaxing and informative. Im currently in a job i hate, and your videos are such a therapy to me,and help me so much, you wouldnt believe. Thank you once again
Hi Sarah and Andrew. Thanks for another great video, both interesting and funny! Your beautiful dogs loved every minute - and "puppy" looks fully grown already!! He sure loves to dig!!😍
Just fabulous as usual Sarah and Andrew and another area that I'm not that familiar with. I was laughing so much when you were trying to give us your serious war story 🐾🐾😂.. just priceless 👌😁. I definitely join you with the mud waddle when walking muddy trails 😜... Glad the café was open for you 😋. Look forward to the next episode 🙏👌😁😘
A very interesting and fun walk guys, nice to see how well puppy is growing and like our spaniel loves to dig. The history is amazing and like the match with the Red lion pub, cheers Brian&Jane
Hi Sarah and Andrew. I really enjoyed your muddy occasionally rainy walk. So much history the sound of the waves lapping on the beach and on top of that so peaceful and quiet. Dogs made it fun especially your puppy digging a Hugh hole near where you were sitting hope Andrew filled it in.
With the amount of rainfall during March you were very brave with your walk in the ‘Lanes’ of Cornwall. However the reward was glorious with wonderful views of the coast and the sea. Mawnan Smith will never disappoint you it is full of History and character- another super video- well done to the 2 of you with your tails and information.
What a lucky chap you are! Fab dogs and a great companion. A Cornish woman with a beautiful natural soul.❤ Hey and she laughs at your rubbish quips.😂 I took early retirement from the MOD for health reasons. I visit all the places you've been to and Devon too. It was interesting to see the American influence in Cornwall during the build up of DD and the liberation of Europe. It was also the end of the British Empire. The decades to follow changed Cornwall and the UK FOREVER. EU, immigration and the migration of the property rich Londoners.😢 So thanks for your witty creations in God's country. Reminiscing the truly good old days❤
Another great walk and video . Beautiful village and beach ❤. Muddy puppy dogs 🐶 🐶really enjoyed the walk 😂. You are showing us lots of places to visit when we are back down in Cornwall in June .🥰
DIG!!! :D I love the stories you collect, and it's so fun to see the places. Pitchforks and petticoats make a great tale! A particularly unfortunate English slang term here in the U.S. is the one for cigarette. (And I don't mean 'smokes'.) Hubby is a big WWII history buff, so I'll share this video with him. The bit about the seaweed was fascinating. Fewer and fewer people are around now who remember living through the War. My mom was seven years old, living in Los Angeles, and was terrified to wake up one night during a blackout. My grandfather was a Block Captain with the Civil Defense, and they had hardhats, shovels, and sandbags in their yard as after Pearl Harbor it was feared the Japanese would bomb Long Beach Harbor and nearby cities in California. Whether it was Napoleon or Hitler, it seems Cornwall was the first line of defense. You have a great history of brave people standing against the enemy. Thank you for sharing it. :)
You have interesting stories of your own. I never really thought that you guys would have similar experiences with blackouts and threats of invasion during WWII. Thanks for sharing! Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails One difference is that the U.S. didn't join the War until after Pearl Harbor was bombed (Dec. 7th, 1941). I had a school friend (she was a very late baby; I'm not that old...my Dad went to Korea in 1953), whose Dad was in the Navy and actually stationed aboard one of the ships that was destroyed. He was on liberty and had spent the night in Honolulu, thus escaping the fate of his fellow crew members. In one of your videos you explore a lookout bunker by the coast. There are some here in San Diego as well, in the cliffs near the Cabrillo Lighthouse. My husband could talk your ear off about the Battle of the Pacific, Iwo Jima, etc. :0
Lovely walk in spite of the weather 😁 I see that you Sarah, have the same walking style as I have on muddy paths 🤣 And I also get really dirty if the paths are dry, with dust all over my legs 😂 Great to get all this history and background added to the places I have visited. Thank you for a lovely Friday morning watching your walk 😊 Torunn 🥰
This happy fun video has made my whole weekend! (you'll now know the American name for bumbags). And thanks for braving the rain and all the muddy lanes to bring us another CWT gem. It must have been surreal for locals to have such an influx of American servicemen and all those coastal manoeuvres, but I guess they appreciated the importance of their presence. Totally agree with you Sarah about the soulless modern houses ~ at the very least you think they might have used some granite cladding on facades to tie in with local tradition. That was an impressive sea-glass haul! ~ beachcombing is just the best thing ever! (so missing Cornwall just now). Doggie junior makes me smile so much :)
We were in Cornwall the last week in March , yes it was wet, but still worth it. The last time we were at Maenporth the cafe was a burnt out shell. Back in July, until then thanks for keeping us topped up with Cornwall.
Hello, I love all your videos. I moved to Cornwall 2 years ago & when friends come to stay we have started using your walks. My gentleman friend is coming again in 2 weeks & we will be trying this walk. As he, always, says, if you wait for it to stop raining in Cornwall you will never go out! Thank you for your walks again. ❤
Thank you to you both, another wonderful informative video. Coming down in August to a place I think you should remember Gorran Haven. If you fancy a meal out and a pleasant evening on me, let me know. Regards Paul
Another beautiful village, great but muddy walks and wonderful local stories, I’ve very rarely seen Andrew lost for words except when he has a mouthful of muffin, that ticking off was hysterical Sarah 😂🤣😂🤣 talk about getting his knickers in a twist…correction petticoats, what a fantastic view of the ocean at the end of muddy lane, I’m trying to concentrate on your story Sarah but can’t watch anymore the dogs are killing me with their antics 😂🤣😂 will join you later when I’ve had a Latte and recovered my composure, or it could be next week 😅

You two make me chuckle! I’ve literally just returned from a short break at Budock Vean near Mawnan Smith, and we walked the coast path to Maenporth, although it was a sunny but windy day. The scenery and beaches are amazing, I found some sea glass and will make it into a bracelet as a memento of this trip. We’re returning in a few months, so will try some more of your walks…greetings from Devon (second best county in the UK!)😂
