    Welcome back to Aurora Tech Channel. Last December, I reviewed the Ender-3 S1. It was the most advanced Creality printer I have ever used. It is packed with all the updated features you can expect from a new generation printer and the print quality is outstanding. Last week, PerGear sent me this new Ender-3 S1 Pro to review. When I first looked at the specs, it looked like it was just an Ender-3 S1 with a high-temperature hotend that heats up to 300 degrees to print Nylon, Nylon Carbon Fiber, and other high-temperature filaments. However, it is actually much more than that. Some upgrades are obvious and some are just small details.

    It's hard to justify calling the print quality "outstanding" and "amazing" when there are huge blobs in the corners of the calibration cube. This has been an issue on all the Ender 3 printers, and they still haven't fixed it. It would only take a small mod to their mainboard to enable the Linear Advance feature in Marlin which would then fix this problem. The whole reason I switched to Klipper on my E3V2 was because of the huge blobs on corners. It might not seem like a big issue if you are just printing stand-alone parts, but if you are printing parts that are meant to fit together,, then it is a real problem. Apart from that, good review as always, thanks for sharing your thoughts

    • @larrythehedgehog
      @larrythehedgehog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’ve printed tons of functional parts without linear advance and haven’t had problems. I just adjust the scale of the object in Cura by 0.5 percent.

    • @johnrobinson3642
      @johnrobinson3642 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@larrythehedgehog If you're happy with that result, then that's all that matters. But I wasn't happy with it. If you print 2 of those calibration cubes that are designed to fit together in a confined space, then the cubes will only touch in the corners, and you end up with a great big gap in between the parts, and I just don't find that to be an acceptable solution. The point that I was making is that this has been a problem on all of the Ender 3 printers, and it is something that would be very easy for Creality to fix, they just need to add UART control of the stepper drivers. To me, it seems silly that they would add all new bells and whistles to make a $500 printer, but they still can't get the fundamentals right, As I said ealier, the whole reason I ditched Marlin and switched over to klipper on my E3V2 is that Klipper is able to solve this problem without the need for UART control of the stepper drivers.

    • @darkrulier
      @darkrulier 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! I have an original Ender 3 Pro and always wondered why the corners of my prints looked bulged. What is Kippler and can I add it to my old Ender? I may do this to the S1 Pro that I ordered as well if possible. It is kinda of important to me as I print engineering prototypes on this machine. Thanks.

    • @johnrobinson3642
      @johnrobinson3642 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@darkrulier Marlin has a built-in feature called Linear Advance which is aimed at fixing this issue, however, it requires that the mainboard have software control over the stepper-motor drivers to work, and Creality, in their wisdom, decided that software control wasn't necessary. This is why Creality printers still suffer from this problem to this day.
      Klipper is an alternative firmware for your printer. It is superior to Marlin in most aspects IMHO, however it requires a raspberry pi to run. Klipper has a similar feature to Marlin's Linear Advance called Pressure Advance, however, it does not require software control of the stepper drivers, and so will work with any of the Creality mainboards.
      It was exactly this issue that led me to ditching Marlin and moving over to Klipper, but Klipper has so many other benefits that it has just been win-win
      So, in Summary, to fix this issue on your ender, you either need to a) switch mainboards to one that has software control over the stepper drivers (most so), or b) Buy a Raspberry Pi and switch to Klipper.

    • @darkrulier
      @darkrulier 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really enjoy your videos and based on your review, just purchased the S1 Pro, arrived 2 days ago and I have printed several files. 100% pleased with the results. You mentioned community firmware - can you tell me more about this or direct to a “how to” area to find out more. Thank you greatly from NZ. Keep up the good work.

    This is a great video. I wish I'd seen it when setting up mine. I will say there are a number of things I found difficult when setting up as this was my first 3d printer. However you covered more than anyone else I've seen when reviewing it. A rather large problem I found was that you cannot pause and resume prints. There's a bug in the included LCD screen where you cannot resume after putting a pause command in your gcode. It won't even resume if you use a timed pause. So you cannot do multi-color prints, print on fabric, add magnets, etc. This may not matter for some, but ut is one of the reasons I bought a Sonic Pad - which was a huge pain in the ass to get working (though your other video was invaluable once I *did* sort out the firmware issues.) I actually love the printer when it's working but I think consumer-ready is still a ways off for Creality. There a number of silly little things that could be fixed with better programming.

    Thanks for the excellent comparison, Aurora Is it possible to upgrade the S1 to be able to print nylon and other high-temperature materials?

    You guys are so awesome. I learn all I need in your reviews, so detailed, Thank You. My question is what should I do with my 10S Pro V1? I have made a few upgrades but WOW, The S1 is outstanding and the S1 Pro is so complete. Will 10S Pro ever get any of these upgrades too? I print 1.64 scale model trains and need the bigger cube of the 10S. Seems like the best approach may be to join the ranks of multiple printer shops. As we increase production for customer parts this S1 Pro could be a work horse for us. $500 is not too bad for the feature rich machine. Thank You both so much, very informative, and again Thank You Parents too! Great job by all. Dennis in Virginia

    Another great review from this sister-brother duo! I'm a 3D printing newbie and I am hooked onto your channel. Since the pricing on the S1 Pro is almost getting within the range of the Prusa i3 MK3S+ kit (as also mentioned by another commenter), it would be interesting to get your thoughts on whether these should even be considered at par. A head-to-head video match up between the two on some challenging prints and materials would be a bonus :)

      The kit is the kit. It’s only reasonable to compare this to the assembled printer, which is 2.2x the cost after shipping.

      The prices are still miles apart. The PRUSA is 60% more expensive.

    Excelent Video, I really like your clear pro and con section, also the Variety of materials and the messurement of the energy consuption. I think the videos coul'd be further improved by printing extreme hard test Items, with low clearance, overhangs etc., where printers do fail, so you can see when they fail and compare them in this categories.
