Flip Cart, Part One. FREE PLANS | How To

- FINALLY the project has come full circle. After sitting in the background for months, I have finally completed my flip cart, or "flip top cart" as some may call it. These carts can be wheeled around your shop to available outlets, and stored out of the way if your wife still has that fairytail of parking in the garage. Instead of lifting them ontop of your workbench, or getting onto the ground to use your tools each time, spend the $80 per cart and build these bad boys. Featuring several endlap joints and a tenon joint, all cut using the miter saw (and one that requires a router).
I am breaking this video up into three separate parts:
PART ONE: is the bottom construction. the bracing, the legs and the caster wheels. it also includes the most important step: finding the correct measurement for you!
PART TWO: is the upper construction. the 2x6 top bracing and how to build the flipping section of the cart.
PART THREE: ohhh baby, part three is when we customize these carts even further by adding a sandpaper organizer, cord management and the drawers in the space between the tools. Im sure to have a few more ideas by the time I get to that step. lets not forget, the carts took me several months :P

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m here for the woodworking projects as well as the awesome songs!
😂😂 thanks buddy! Happy you have you in the community
Excellent build and video! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thanks John! :)
Excellent video, thank you for the free plans. Keep us inspired.
Thanks buddy :)
Love the channel and the way you do your videos. Also love the creativity you have
Thanks buddy! Glad you enjoy the content :) :)
Thanks for the videos!
Cheers grom Athens Greece!
Heyyoo! :) thanks for watching!
Exactly the solution I was looking for and to use some extra lumber I have atound. Thx!
Niiiice! Happy building!!
Mate what a great video. Much more creative and fun to watch than a few out there. Love the humour! 😉👍 also I like the simplicity of the design.
Thanks Paul! I didn't want it to look overly plywood-y if you know what I mean ;)
🤗These look really nice. Love when aesthetic is factored in wood cart/stand builds. Now some dewalt color or wood staining will make them look even cooler.👍🏾
Id love to have some dewalt yellow in my shop, its just a wee bit out of budget :P
Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks Andrew! :)
Great design
Thanks buddy!
Fantastic instructional content, boosted with even better humor and song singing LOL😂
😂 you know it! Thanks buddy :)
Awesome job and excellent quality and presentation. Subscribed.
I like how your take on the flip cart differs from the typical sheet goods version.
Thanks :) and I KNOW RIGHT?! All the other carts are just plywood. I wish I would have turned the rounded part of the 2x4 into a chamfer or rounded over a little more to really highligh the lines. Still love em though :)
You Sir are cool ! Thank you very much 😎
Thanks Henry :)
Ive never seen or thought about doing joinery and half lap with 2x4 softwoods. Kinda awesome
Totally awesome! :)
Nice video . Cheers
Thanks buddy! :)
Thank you
No, thank you :)
Thanks man!
Thank you! :)
I appreciate you.
Thanks buddy :) i appreciate you!
The willingness to offer "free" things to help society...PFFFFF... subb'd.
Thanks buddy :) welcome to the channel!!
I have an 8x12 shop. I built carts or my table saw, planer, jointer and band saw. I built a ramp so I can roll them outside to make room in the shop.
Nice! Easy shop expansion :)
Thanks!
Thanks Tim! :D
I never knew such a thing existed. But this is well above my skill level. :/
No no no no no, if you have a miter saw, you can knock this one out. You got this!
Even a miter box you can do it. Just take your time. Those angles can also be cut with a circular saw. He gives you free plans and everything. Never sell yourself short.
Gracias amigo
Gracias! Me alegra que te haya gustado el vídeo!
this is great plans and video.. Thank you for all of your plans!
I was thinking of using this small footprint for a table saw. Not a flip cart but using the basic style to make a fully modular work setup.
That would be fancy! My uncle is going to use this format to make it so his miter saw goes underneath his workbench, and the other side is simply extra workspace, no tool
ANOTHA ONE!! HAHA...love your content bro! just waiting on you to get sponsored, and get a laser engraver...haha
Hahaaa! When it happens, you'll be the first I reach out to buddy. Not aure what I would do with a laser engraver other than put cats on everything ;)
I did miss part 1 and 2!
Tisk tisk tisk ;) lol
That song really did it for me :) Other than that, I love your joinery but would it not be simpler to use just one type of lumber dimension e.g. all 2 x 6 or all 2 x 4's ? I think this would be a more efficient use of materials. Also it seems a bit over-built. I'm sure, though, those carts are bomb proof.
I liked the top being a little thicker than the than the legs, you could use 2x4's if you wanted to :) glad you liked the video!
@WhosTheVoss I know why the wood has a lip...cuz you left it on time out too long in the corner!!! Bahaha...sorry couldn't resist...Lots of us have "that project " that sits in the corner for a long time...in my opinion it's bcuz there is something not quite right about it and needs to ferment in the back of our minds longer...
Btw you have a lovely voice! I love your humour too...
🤣🤣 i think youre right! You gotta have thinkin projects too. Start them, and let them fester for a while :) I like it!
Exactly! I have attention deficit...my mind never rests...usually the ones that sit for a while for me...turn out better than the original plan
So i plan my weekly videos up to three months in advance, and I script them two weeks before I shoot. Two reasons, it can fester for a little while in case there is something I want to add, and so I can get additional materials needed :) I totally get where you are coming from
I think I have the same Kobalt miter saw. The blade is JUNK! Do you have a recomendation for an upgrade that won't cost too much? Thanks for all the great ideas!
Ummmmmm, I use Spyder blades from Lowes, which are a wee cashy, however you dont replace them too often
Great video and funny personality! I need to build this. I am hoping to make one much thinner to fit in a tight space in a garage. We live that fairytale with two cars and a zero turn mower in the shop/garage. I plan to put a small drill press and a Harbor Freight bandsaw on it. Do you or any of your subscribers know if it will be stable enough if it is just big enough to fit the bandsaw to the smallest width?
Shouldn't be too tipsy since the other tool will be hanging underneath. Might run into issues if you have a board hanging off the end to cut/drill it
@@WhosTheVoss That is a good point to keep in mind! I will use an adjustable roller stand for long pieces.
Mr Voss, great video and plans. You mentioned free plans but I cannot find them, checked all 3 videos. Please help.
Plans are in the description: click on "more" under the video, then click "more" to expand the description". Any plans I provide will be listed there :)
Helpful video! I noticed you use a lot of Craftsman tools. I’ve been thinking of buying into that brand. Would you recommend them?
I’ve had craftsman for a long time. My shop vac is bullet proof. They’re great starter tools for small projects, but as you get into bigger and more precise projects it would be well worth the upgrade to bigger, more precise machines like Powermatic or Laguna.
Dewalt is expensive, nice, but expensive. Im not a big fan of Kobalt; I work at Lowes and get a lot of returns for them and havnt had much luck myself. As for Ryobi, Milwaukee, Metabo, (or the orange brand that starts with R), ive never used those. But Ive had good luck with the Craftsman set, and they usually run a "buy one get one free" deal. Right now you can get a 4amp hour battery with fast charger for $129, and a free tool (i have my eye on another palm router) which is $129 by itself. That promo runs through December. (Ps im not sponsored by anyone). If I was to start building a new battery powered set, id look at what tools are included with each brand, some have cooler tools (kobalt has some cool battery powered stuff). Anywho, I like my Craftsman v20 stuff. Both Kobalt and Craftsman have lifetime warranties on their tools as well. Literally bring the tool into the store, no questions asked you walk out with a new tool.
Thanks for the reply. I’ll definitely check them out. Maybe take advantage of the battery deal.
Craftsman used to be great back when they were a Sears brand. My scroll saw is a Craftsman and it's over 30 years old and still works like a champ. My Craftsman miter saw though isn't holding up. I'll probably replace it with a Dewalt. I don't like modern day Craftsman tools. I think their quality has gone down hill, but the same can be said for most brands. I would consider Craftsman to be a good entry to mid level brand. They do what they are supposed to do, but you may not get the longevity out of them that you used to. I like Kobalt for their hand tools, never used their power tools. If you're just getting into the hobby, Harbor Freight's Bauer line and Hercules line are both great and surprisingly robust. I have a Bauer cordless drill that goes toe to toe with my Dewalt. If you are on a budget, Harbor Freight has some great products. I really like my Dewalt tools too. Nothing you see in Lowes or Home Depot is industrial quality though. Grizzly is another really good brand (and their catalog is great).
I have a ton of Craftsman hand tools and handheld power tools and am very happy with them. As a matter of fact, I just had a 25 year old tape measure break, and of course I didn't have the reciept. After a little research with the CS agent, I found an exact replacement and got it for free.
On the other hand, large power equipment, ie, Lawn mowers, air compressors, etc. are a different story.
I would not reccomend Craftsman power equipment, new and especially used, to any one. I had bad experinces with both of the above. The self-propelled mower had a tiny piece in the drive that held the wheel in place break which rendered the mower unusable and that part was discontined. And yes, I did check all the online parts places. So the mower ended up on the street. The engine still ran great, no oil burning and started with one pull. Such a shame.
The air compressor's reed valve broke and it was discontined as well. After a lot of searching I was lucky, really lucky, to find another after market reed valve and with a tiny modification of the pump head was able to install it.
This is why I would not recommend Craftsman large power equipment to anyone. It's the littlest critical pieces that are discontinued that make the difference between a repair and becoming junk.
Craftsman has a great reputation but with experiences like this it will begin to falter.
These are only my experiences with Craftsman, so take this for what it's worth.
I’m not going to lie. I love your videos, love your personality, and workmanship.
But the only thing I found for instructions was a small parts list and picture.
Am I correct in assuming this was the only instruction? I just want to make sure my guesses are ok 😂
Yhanks buddy!
Yupp, you can print the plans and follow along with the video :)
In your plans I don't see a length of the half lap joints in the dimensions (Spelled Correctly) 😊 I was wondering what it was. Thanks in advance.
Like the depth it goes into the hole? Mine were 3", you can go as deep as the 2x4, or 3-1/2" :)
Would this stand be suitable to take a 62kg sander ?
My planner is 43kg and it doesnt seem like im even close to maximum weight :)
I can’t find the actual plans.
I'm new to this so I know nothing lol. But i need something to put my table saw on. I cant find the depth on my mitre saw, but if I do, how deep do I make those cuts for bottom pieces, boards 1,2,3 and 4?
The depths should be on the plans listed in the description :)
@@WhosTheVoss sorry I thought I read it wrong, because it said 1 1/2 inches, I thought that was to deep for the 2x4 if i am cutting on the 2 inch side only leave half an inch, is that correct?
Couldn't download plans on that site. Any other way?
Check the plans again, Ive been adding them to Pinterest so they are visible to viewers who cant get them from my image host. Not sure if it's a device thing or a McAfee thing or what :)
I looked for the plans bot could not find them.

Should rename your channel as 'The Happy Woodworker'?
😂 i am pretty jolly I guess :P
You don't need to call them castor wheels. They are either castors, or wheels. 🙄😖
Never knew that Andrew! 🤣 Nice catch. Apparently they are also called "Castors" in the UK. Very interestinggggggg
