    This press has worked like a charm for my projects th-cam.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with.This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

      Hey Jeff,
      yeah, I was super thrilled when I found the pins. They were the last missing piece to this build.
      As for the bolts I was a bit concerned if they are strong enough since they have to support the drill press upside down. But they are :)
      Even when I should get rid of the drill press in the future I will keep the bolts atleast ;)

    Very good video. Thank you. I used to cut down full sheets of ply as you were doing on the table saw with many of the same problems, then I bought a Festool track saw on recommendation from another wood worker and now cutting down sheet goods is easy and IMHO much safer than using the table saw.

      Thanks. Yeah that's what I've switched to in the meantime, too 😉👍 The first few cuts with the Festool track saw to make the sheets manageable and then the repetitive cuts on the sliding table saw. Super fast effecient 😍 Love it 😁

    I want to build a similar one. What size drill press is that? I am wondering if the 12 inch drill press be too high of a tool to have a flip top cart and make it unstable. How is your experience so far while using it?

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! My drill press has a height of about 73cm (28 in). I really like the cart so far. The wobble in the side bothered me after a while and I made 4 triangles that act as brackets between the base plate and the sides. Now it is really rock solid. I will include that upgrade in the article on my website and also put it in the plans soon.

    Did you have to drill out the column to better connect the drill press head to the column? Mine is held on by a set screw, which is fine with gravity assisting. I'm assuming upside down the little set screw isn't going to cut it.

    I would like to use a similar concept to create a tabletop out of a dual sided door, so that both sides can be displayed. Is there any way to do this without drilling all the way through the door, and just adding extensions to serve as an axle on both sides?

      @BauWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks.
      The drillpress is around 20-25kg. The sander 30kg. So a total of about 55kg. The height of your drillpress might the limiting factor. My drillpress is 73cm tall. With a bit of clearance I end up with 90cm working heigt. Which is almost a bit too high for me...

    The construction is awesome, however due to the nature of the build, does it not wiggle a bit? Id potentially add some suporting mechanisam that can be removed when flipping just to ensure that its somewhat "Wiggle free"?

    • @rw7532
      @rw7532 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think if some stretchers were installed in the front and back on top of the bottom piece and between the left and right side would help keep it from racking, I saw quite a bit of sway when he was suing the extension wing.

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Nino and yes there is a bit of wiggle. It didn't bother me yet. I wouldn't want to add something that makes the flipping operation painful. There are several ways to achieve that though.

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      R W yes that would be good method 👍. I thought about adding someting like this, but the bit of wiggle didn't bother me. Another way I thought of is adding a steel wire that runs in the pipes, can be tensioned and applies pressure to the to sides.

    Super job! I am reworking my small shop and need floor space. Excellent build that has given me some guidance.
    I have a jointer that is 1m long and will put my thickness planer on the flip side. Cool idea with the index pins.
    Just subscribed. Keep up the videos.

    I like the indexing pins. I was wondering how the holes in the flip top are fareing? How long is the pin that goes into the top? Do you think it would be prudent to add pieces of tubing similar to the bearing surface for the 3/4" pipe? Thanks for sharing.

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they are great. They go about 6mm into the hole. I thought about letting the pin go into a metal tube. I already purchased the tube and decided against it since the hole the rather hard beech wood are suficient 👍

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. Sure. I think it weights 15-20kg. The sander is a bit more heavy with around 30kg 😉

    Glad I found this! I'm in the process of building my own flip top (for my spindle sander and my planer), and I'm definitely going to use those indexing pins. That's way nicer looking then what I was going to use. Might even using that idea of drawers, although I might not have enough plywood for that. Ha! Great video, sir. Amazing that you only have 296 views!

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Matt! Yes these indexing pins make the flipping operation so fast and fun! Go for them 😉
      I think it is worth the extra trip to get another sheet of ply for the drawers. Then you have plenty of storage and it helps to keep the shop clean 😅

      I'm making a rolling tool cabinet. I'm using these drawer sides for the 100mm drawers with bottom fit runners for the 50mm drawers. They only have two wheels at each side but 40kg load should be more than enough.

    Awsome idea! I had try to build analog in sketchup and I have a question: what is height of your drill press? I am planning using something like jet jdp15 and it height is 1 meter. In this case stand looks to much high.

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank mate! Yes, 1m sounds pretty high. If you add a bit of clearance for the drill press and some to the floor you'll end up with 1.15-1.2m at the bottom of your drill press. If you are 2.5m that's fine 😅
      My drill press is 73cm high and the working height (height of the surface = where the drill press stands on) is about 90cm. I am 1.78m and that is almost a bit high. Maybe your drill press is too much of a beast for a flip-top 😅😅

    Nice project, quality management very professional. Would a counter weight at the bottom plate stabilize the construction against vibration etc.? KR from Germany, subscribed ☺

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hehe yes the quality management is on point and always challenging me 😉 Yes I think that would help. Although I don't know if that makes moving the cart even harder. The cart is 70-90kg already, plus all the stuff in the drawers... I think about running a threaded rod in the center of the pipe in the flip top that is held in place with nuts and washers at each side. Hence apply pressure to the sides of the cart and make it rack less. But I guess it doesn't bother me enough at the moment to really do something about it 😅 Viele Grüße aus Berlin 😉

    I've been looking for a way to mount my drill press to my stand and on the few vids I've seen, they just show screwing BOLTS, not wood screws into the wood. What are you screwing them into? You can't just screw bolts into wood and expect it to be secure. As Ricky Ricardo says "''splain" please.

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The explanation is very simple. It's a bolt (you may technically call it a screw) that is threaded for wood.
